    This one lens would be my travel go to. The 16-55 f/2.8 is my absolute love. The 70-300 is pick for reach. This one lens covers the entire range that I'd use for travel. The weather sealing is so big too. Yeah I'm losing a few stops on the wide end but I can live with that. This is an excellent 1 lens option.

    I’m getting the Fuji X-S10 and this lens soon. I am so excited for an all in one super zoom. Over time I’ll fill in with prime lenses for specific applications

    This is what I have been looking for. Most of these evaluative videos are for professional photographers only. As an enthusiast only this video was very helpful. Lens changing is ok in studio or other static situations but I'll miss half the great photos fumbling around with the different lens. If you want to win a prize stick to prime lenses, but you can still sell photos to the non photographers if you want with a lens like this. I will be turning in my trusty Canon 7D and move on to an XT-5 with the Tamron 18 - 300 for a new world. Thanks Darren.

    If I were travelling, I'd bring this and a wide fast prime just for night shots. A good combo

    My usual gear is Canon pro level gear, and I work with Nikon, Sony and Olympus as well. I decided to try out the Fuji X-T4 for the fun of it - I like the retro style dials and I was impressed that the X-T4 (at the time of writing) is one of the few APS-C cameras with IBIS. So, one is one the way, and after looking at numerous reviews, including yours, that suggest the this Tamron all-in-one unit sets a new standard for this kind of unit, I have ordered that to compliment the 18-80 kit lens that is coming with my unit. I am not expecting the world, but for a pick up and go sort of unit, it will be fun to explore with.

    Excellent review, thanks for posting it.
    Question: The moon shot at 300mm shows Adobe Lightroom Exposure adjustment set to +5.00. Had you exposed for longer than the indicated 1/400s, would you expect better image quality with reduced Lightroom exposure compensation?
    Again, valuable review and thanks.

    Another excellent, practical review.
    No doubt other pixel peeping reviewers will concentrate on the kind of shortcomings necessarily inherent in a lens with this very useful- particularly for travel lens.
    I and ,suspect many others ,are far more concerned with both the flexibility and value for money, offered by this lens.
    Not sure why Sigma have not joined the 3rd party offerings. Would have no hesitation in purchasing a magic 56 1.4 for my Fuji bodies?

    Teacher, may I ask, I currently use x-t4, the lenses are xf16, xf56, xf70-300, I am sure to buy tamron 150-500mm, but I also like tamron 17-70 and tamron 18-300, if it is you , tamron 17-70, tamron 18-300, xf70-300, these three lenses, choose two or one, how would you choose, can you give me a reference??? Thank you

    Is it just my lens acting this way?

    Ty for the review. Question for you regarding the lens on the xt3 without a tripod. Take for example the pic you took at 300mm f7.2 of the condominium- without the tripod, would the output change drastically on the xt3 even if you have still hands? Ik this lens doesn't have OIS, and i don't use a tripod often.

    thanks for sharing this review. I’m researching and comparing this lens to the Fuji 70-300. I already have “primes” (laowa 9mm / Viltrox 23mm and 56mm). Seems the best choice for me would be the Fuji 70-300 I think it is shaper in the long range for sure… I have a FD adapter and seems I can shoot better pictures of the moon with my FD70-200 manual focus.
    Funny thing is, I live in Naples / FL and seems you were at Horizons (Park Shore) beach shooting those far buildings at Pelican Bay. Am I wrong? 😂 lmk. Thanks again for sharing this review, great review btw. I made sure to subscribe your channel on RUclips. 👊🏼 cheers

    Nice video, thanks for sharing. How would you compare image quality compared to Fuji 18-135? I shoot landscape and am selling my bigger heavier lenses for an all in one lense to lighten up my bag and save swapping lenses. I shoot landscape for fun so don't really need to be lugging around big heavy lenses.
    Subbed.

    Hi Darren, great review thanks.
    I have xt 200
    I am a beginner level enthusiastic photographer.
    I want to buy one Fuji lens
    Either 80mm macro fuji or the Tamron 18-300mm. I want it for a general purpose.
    I have the standard 15-45 lens and 7artisans 55mm.
    Pls assist which would be better. I believe Tamron will be.
    Also, to reconfirm there is Image stabilisation in the Tamron lens?

    • @DarrenMiles
      @DarrenMiles  2 года назад +3

      Alain, hard to say, I haven't used the XF 100-400... The 18-300 is very much a generalist's lens, not great, not bad, but very useful. Just don't expect world class optics out of it.

    Hi Darren, thank you for this great review! I have the xf 18-55mm (and also xf 50mm and xc 35mm) and I am considering to exchange this zoom lens with the tarmon 18-300. I am not sure if this is worth it, as I often heard, that the 18-55 is one of the best zoom lenses. Would you exchange or rather not? Thank you! :)

    • @DarrenMiles
      @DarrenMiles  2 года назад +1

      I'd keep the 18-55... I might consider an additional lens to cover those focal lengths over the 18-300 - the tamron offers stupid good versatility with only average image quality and that's because the lens tries to do everything... Rarely does that work out well, for what it is, the 18-300 is very good, but there are certainly better optics out there that cover a more controlled focal range...

    A good lens for a short time.. The barrel of the lens will get sticky which in return will cause one to miss a butt load of shots. Why one might ask? Well when the lens adjust due to focus breathing the lens can't zoom like it should because of the barrel getting stuck in the groove channel it runs on!
