Test charts are one thing to test the sharpness of the lens, but shooting outdoors really reveals just how good a lens is. This lens looks amazing. It also looks smaller on a camera than alone. Just added 8/15/2023. Received my copy. I was not super enthused by the zooming, being tight and jerky. Though with use it is loosening up nicely to zooming smoothly. I have to concur this is one sharp lens, even when shooting close up. I shot this lens on a Sony a6600 and the new a6700 cameras. It does not disappoint. One reason for choosing this was due to the wide zoom range and the macro capabilities. This is also my first Tamron lens. I use Sony and Sigma, makers of excellent lenses. This lens is really short. In non-zoomed mode, it's only 5 inches long. It almost gets lost next to the Sony 200-600mm zoom.
I'm headed to central America in a month. Ive been mainly shooting film. But I still bring my X-S10 for hiking. This will work perfectly. Always hated bringing a 16mm and the 55-200 on a hike. This has more range and it's weather resistant. Can't wait to get it this Thursday.

Thanks for this video, but I have a confusion between choosing Tamron 17-70mm and 18-300 mm, am using Sony zv-e10 APSC camera, learning photography and videography, like taking portraits landscape and products, with my kit lens 16-50mm, am trying to upgrade now, which one should I have to go, the 70mm or 300 mm, use case is portraits landscape sometime videography, it would be really helpful of get a reply

I sold my 55-200 for this lens. The 200mm is just not enough range for nature photography. And I want to avoid carrying multiple lens while hiking. Changing lens is when dust and dirt get into the sensor

Unfortunately, no! I'm waiting for the day when Tamron will make it in Nikon Z mount, so that I can use it on my Z50, but when will (if) that happen is still unknown!
I have this lens but unfortunately I did't like it 1 bit. For some one who uses Prime lenses with f1.2 and 24-70 2.8 and 70-200 2.8, this feels so much inferior. Lol i thought it could be my 1 stop travelling buddy. Given the price its totally fair though, should've set that much expectations from it

I dislike this kind of so-called "Soup Zoom" Lenses. They're big, they're heavy - too slow from speed, and you don't have the DoF, like with a fast F2.8 Lens or especially a fast prime, by design. They try to be the jack of all trades, but many compromises to life with. Back into the DSLR, and especially SLR days, my Zooms have been 28-70, 35-70, not more, not less. And the Tele from 80-200 (usually F4) or 70-210mm focal length reach.

This lens is a perfect travel lens, just carry one or two prime lenses if you need to shoot at night.
This lens is also a perfect "dad lens."

That's a good question. I'd like both of those lenses to be compared.
I sold my 55-200 for this lens. The 200mm is just not enough range for nature photography. And I want to avoid carrying multiple lens while hiking. Changing lens is when dust and dirt get into the sensor

I am interested in a compact lense for my Fuji XT3 for wildlife. Should I go with tamron 18-300 or Fuji xf 70-300?
Go for the Fuji 70-300mm as you'll often be at 300mm when shooting wildlife and this is where the Fuji lens is sharper.

Depends on your need... If long reach is important to you (like birding), go for XF (it's teleconverter compatible)...
Else go for Tamron...

How about using this for professional video??
You can definitely shoot video. But since Pro video makers likes to work with wider, fixed max apertures, this can cause a little inconvenience.
