What performance?
The best 😊 !
@@odin9836 Another Drake fan.
Foo Fighters from a few years ago would be the closest possible.
100 that~
The 80's were a fine time to be young in the USA.
Indeed 😎🥂
Amen to that brother 🤙🤙🙏❤😁🤘🍺🍺🎸🎸🤙
Good times 54 years old here whoo! 80's rule 🎉❤
Amen.
Yes it was
David Lee Roth is easily one of the greatest frontmen of all time. And Van Halen are one of the greatest bands of all time.
Agree.zThey were special.
AGREED
Wish he could still do it like this
@@katinasvenska boxing greatest
The greatest.
Michael Anthony was so underrated as a bass player. He rocked.
Way overrated. Average at best, people didn’t by tickets to see bass player
@@jaywagner7894bs, he serves the songs just perfectly
@@jaywagner7894 He was the actual voice behind Van Halen.
@@davidziemann9653 RUclips him singing lead on somebody get me a dr then tell me that
@@jaywagner7894"overrated. ... people didn’t by tickets to see bass player"
THAT'S UNDERRATED... the people were under-rating how good he was, and how important his part was, but hardly noticeable.
Fantastic Van Halen in their prime. They don't make bands like this anymore.
+Peter Brown: So very true!! This is the way I like to remember Van Halen!!
Me to!!!..So glad we all grew up then..Music will never be this great again.
No current so called bands won't be listened to 35 years from now..But we will still be listening to Van Halen!!
Kristian Untch : I love your thinking Kristian and that what you say is so very true. I do believe we can go back even further than 35 years. How about PF's ' Darkside Of The Moon?' I know I still listen to it in it's entirety and thats 42 years young...
Rochelle Eskue ..Absolutely Rochelle!!😎😎👍👍
Diamond Dave 💎
Bad ass front man. The filthiest rhythm section in rock. His majesty on guitar. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, The Mighty Van Halen!!
Hahaha! Preach on brotha Ray!
A me piaceva Sammy Hagar più di Roth
Diamond Dave 🤙😁
Asshole,... That didn't work
the best of the best! on all cylinders
This is the Van Halen I know! ✌️
Michael Anthony high vocals gave VH their sound too. He never gets the credit but he was a big part of their success
His backup vocals were the Van Halen trademark
Totally!
drh, I appreciate Michael Anthony as much as the next guy. But no, his backup vocals weren't the Van Halen trademark. Eddies tone and shredding were their trademark.
@Michael V Did he have any desire to come back? I don't know, maybe he had enough.
@@teamrecon2685 Trademark backup vocals. I think his main point is that he doesn't get the credit he deserves.
Michael Anthony is ripping bass lines all over this song.. he's a low key shredder.. but never gets credit for it. Of course his high harmonies were crucial, but his bass playing was superb because he needed to let the showmanship of the other 3 BUSY musicians shine through before him... Eddie, Alex and DLR.. Michael was the GLUE of the band. The working class type of guy we could all picture ourselves having a beer with and could relate to the most..
the most underrated musician in rock music clearly.
Everything about this version of this song is mind boggling. Dave's scream is insane.
Clearly Eddie saw much in Michael and knew it. he also was astute enough to know that Michael would be a great countervailing personality and force to Roth's--and Ed's--egos.
Mike doesn't get enough credit.
Absolutely
The greatest American rock n’ roll band hands down. And it’s not even close.
We will never again see a front man performer and tight three piece band of this magnitude ever again!
Number one show man of all bands.
As they said before every show, "Ladies and Gentlemen, the MIGHTY VAN HALEN!"
I was there....yes, at the "Oakland Coliseum" that same night; one of the best concerts ever! Van Halen was a true "Rock n' Roll" band...I can tell you, they were not amateurs, but true gifted trail blazers for the future to come in the Rock n' Roll music. A super talented band that managed to tell us that it was just fun and easy fun, when it was not. Love theses guys, they shaped my life.
You were so lucky to be there that night!
I was 12 yrs old on the other side of the country in NJ. and saw this many times on the MTV wishing I could have been there! An outrageous moment in time captured on film for others not so fortunate to witness yrs later on RUclips!!!!!
Wish they had more songs to show besides the 3 already available
I was a young 8th grader at this time. Van Halen was everyone’s favorite band at that time. They were so fucking exciting.
You can feel the energy through the screen!!! These guys were on Top of the World in my book
Absolutely...when they came to town the entire day just felt special...of course I was a teen when I saw this show
Dave had the swagger, swing and boogie back then. He owned Rock N Roll.
Dave IS rock n roll. Rock n roll is Dave. Can’t have one without the other. He’s my favorite.
Some throw a party Dave is the party!
The quintessential front man
Dude set the mark for sure
YES, the "boogie"!!! That's was one of the MANY differences between Sammy and Dave.... Sammy had no "boogie"!
The party is on
Van Halen at their best.
If something you loved lasted forever, you would never appreciate how great it was.
Fuckin A....ah those were the good old days.
Hello Leanne, how are you doing?
The four of them were perfect together! 6 amazing albums! What a band! Miss you Eddie.
8 albums including “zero”
@@michaelmartin2589 "Zero" was a demo album
The peak of their powers with Dave!! He's actually singing well during this era!
Yea but, being out of breath and forgetting the words are what we love about Dave.
Richard Johnson speak for yourself! I loved the hair, the chest, and that ass!
I always thought Diamond Dave had a great voice! Sad thing to me is that Dave was very doubtful of his abilities so he drank heavily to mask his insecurity when singing. Supposedly Eddie did the same. Can you imagine these guys thinking they weren't good enough??? When they were on top of the world! Hard to imagine, but that's how fragile we are. Rock on, boys!!!
Van Halen not Van Hagar !!!!! DLR !!!!!!
@@danwest9900that’s very interesting. I knew they had addictions but not the reason behind it.
This is one of the greatest live recordings ever.........
Fair Warning is definitely my fav VH album...............rest in peace EVH and my condolences to your family.
The true Van Halen line-up.
THIS IS VAN HALEN
Dave's screech that he added to songs is immortal...
Nobody had a better scream in Rock than Dave. Van Halen was like a pizza and Dave put on the hot peppers.
I used to have a drug problem, then I started making money.....DLR
His screams and vocal tone from the early days are the reason I'm mad he didn't take better care of his voice. The smokes and coke sure took their toll over the years. By the 90s he could barely do the scream anymore; even his regular singing didn't sound like it used to. Bloody shame.
I once imitated his squeal at Running with the Devil. Scared the hell out of my boyfriend then, he thought it was Dave😅
I literally learned all those screeches singing along to their albums! 😂
The only band where you can watch a concert of them on youtube but their power makes you feel like you are actually there.
Thanatos9029 what?
@@rightinthenutsbabe3641 What's so hard to understand about what he said? He's saying that the band is so kick ass that you feel like you're there even if you actually weren't.
absolutely,dude...
So true!
not the only band, zeppelin, deep purple, black sabbath with dio.
"I'm a musician, Dave's a rock star." Edward Van Halen...
@@randallfloyd4476
How do you know this?
@@randallfloyd4476
Hey Eddie had battles with his demons like alot of us do! When Ed was on stage he was happy!! You can see he is. Some of his misery was from being around ass hole DLR! DAVE was dealing with his demons as well. I'm a VAN HALEN fan through and through especially the DLR era! Don't talk shit about EVH! With out him and Alex there is no VAN HALEN!!!
didn't "talk shit", just told the truth...read sammy's book.
@@randallfloyd4476
The man isn't here to defend himself. The only person who knows the truth about EVH...is EVH himself. So let's leave it at that.
you leave it at that...i'll take the word of people that actually KNEW the guy.
The greatest rock band to ever come out of the the great USA, period.
that could've been true if roth could've actually sing
@jimjd1969 that's not a rock band
GnR are better imo
Tiger G
Yeah for like two weeks
America's answer to Led Zeppelin!
They were just on another level entirely. You can tell that Ed, Al, and Mike were the sons of professional Jazz musicians. People don't mention the Jazz influences in Van Halen but man it is everywhere.
God damn I miss the 80 s
This is VH from 77 to 83
David was so athletic. His energy was a big part of VH success.
😊😊😊
As good as it gets and Diamond Dave is THE greatest of all time
This is the most underrated songs of VH most underrated albums! Where have the guitar hero’s gone?
Ladies and gentlemen the Mighty Van Halen!
sure no doubt, DLR is his prime was untouchable! the man can sing, jump anddance like crazy mother fucker all the time.
These four guys together are magical, the original VH ,their original sound was and still is unparalleled and will be forever. Wouldn't it be priceless to be able to travel back in time to be at this concert?
i got to see them in Florida during there fair warning tour...
I have watched a gaziliion van halen live vids over the years and this show is by far the best I have heard them. The peak of their powers! They were on point; tight, relaxed and in total control of their instruments.
AND WITH THE BEST FRONT MAN THAT EVER LIVED!
All 4 at the top of their game and in perfect sync.
always listen to the studio version when studying but I love the guitar solo in this one better! Greetings from a small town in Indiana!!!! Rock on!
Michael Anthony, golden voice. High harmonies spectacularly. This song and "Dance the Night Away", even "Right Now" are a few that come to mind and really = icing on cake
one of the greatest songs to be captured live......how lucky are we to be able to see this when we want!!
mucho perfecto
This is just pure magic caught on film, Standing on the edge of the stage in beginning in front of 1,000 s of fans has to be an unbelievable feeling
BEST VAN HALEN LINEUP EVER!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I left a Van Halen concert in the 80s and couldn't hear for 2 days. All I heard was a loud humming noise. It was fuckin' wonderful! To be young again.
DLR one of the best frontmen in history.
Van Halen one of the best rock bands in history.
Bay Area native. Seen many rock concerts at the Oakland Collesium.
😎🏁
You changed the world EDDIE💕💜 RIP💔
For those of us that grew up during this time, how lucky are we?!
The Golden Age of Hard American Rock. Sheer power and sound. Saw them in Buffalo 1981 and I was never the same again. The best.
My first concert. Hands down the loudest concert I've ever attended!
A beautiful trip down memory lane after hearing of the tragic loss of the man Eddie (RIP 10/06/20).... saw them on this tour. Classic Van Halen and great music that will never be replaced.....
Absolutely correct.
I was at the show the night before this in Oakland. Still the greatest concert of my life.
When they were kings.
Still are, Vetter. Who have "they" got now ? The fkn backstreet boyz ?
This live clip was played on MTV a lot in the early years. Helped get me into VH as a kid.
Me too
I think I first saw it in 1982 (when we got MTV), and I saw this, and I was thinking "WHAT ON EARTH WAS THAT?", in a good way. More energy than anything on MTV at the time.
Do you recall that they mislabled the band name Von Halen (with an O) in the opening? Ah, the good old days.
Only Eddie could make long striped socks going over white pants cool😂 Though I didn’t know the guy, I can’t begin to explain how much I love him. He’s made a bigger difference in my life than I think anyone could make. As long as I’m around I’m gonna do my best to keep his legacy going through the generations so we never forget
And Eddie is so badass wearing bowling shoes in the "Jump" video. I'm serious...
A kid at my school said he looked like Ronald McDonald. I almost punched him lol
It's "Where's Waldo". Eddie's alter ego
Blue & White, Black & White, Red & White, Stripes were very Big from 79' - 83',...... Peaking in 81'.... Hell, That year they even named a movie "STRIPES". 👈
Man you ain’t kidding I didn’t know the guy from Adam never met him but I’ve seen him many times in concert and he’s a huge part of my life so the day he died I literally cried for a man that I’ve never met but I will do my best to pass on that music to my son my grandkids to keep it alive where I will never die that’s for my appreciation for the wonderful music and ripping guitar licks from this guy
One of my favorite Van Halen video clips of all time. All four of these guys were just kicking ass and taking names at this point. Excellent! Fair Warning was a freaking amazing album!
I was at this show! It was epic! It was so good all the concession food workers left their stations to go inside and watch the show. VH was truly "the mighty Van Halen" back in 1981...no other band came close. Rush was putting on some jaw dropping good shows back then too though.
Never saw Van Halen😣 did see Rush 2112
If I had to pick one Van Halen performance to describe the power of this band, this is it. Mahalo Sir Edward. You changed my life. 😷🤙🏼😢
the greatest band ever. they just were meant for each other
The bass in this song is unreal.
Yes! I get it, in later life, Eddie was sick, and it made him mean...but disrespecting Mikey's talents..... Mikey's bass and vocals make this performance.
This one is tough. I started listening to this man's guitar playing when VH1 hit shelves in 1978. He's been part of the soundtrack of my life since I was 9. FUCK!!!
RIP EVH. His "walking" solo on this song was just masterful. Maybe not Eruption in terms of flash, but his best in terms of making a great song legendary.
This solo and outro are so good, I watch it over and over just for that. So effortless and brilliant with all the pinch whammy squeels and whatnot, really expressive, melodic, not just showing off. His tone is just incredible too!
@@theodosios2615 It was very new at the time, it sounds kind of cheesy today, but nobody EVERY played like that, and it was totally in your face. He invented modern tapping (it was used before but to such an extent) and picked faster than anyone on the planet at this time.
Saw this Tour in Phoenix,..This footage was exactly what I saw!..fucken jammed!..loudest Concert Too!..I watch this over and over...That god I was born in a good era!....

That second solo that is completely freestyled is fuckin epic.

The snap of Als snare is something else
That outro is so electrifying and gives me goosebumps.
with the recent news of DLR retiring I just want to thank Diamond Dave and the rest of the guys for providing the soundtrack to my high school years and beyond. I can't imagine going through life without listening to the mighty Van Halen .

Was lucky to see VH twice in their prime in the 80s, cant get anywhere close to explaining the buzz of the concerts, was like people knew they were witnessing something special
Yup, Saw them on this tour- Fair Warning Tour. They were Explosive. Un beatable.
The charisma here is overwhelming. Awesome
they had it all. Amazing guitaris, amazing drumming and of course David! what a band!
This is the best DLR era VH. Dave's best singing, and Ed, Mike and Alex are locked in. Love this swing/shuffle!👍
Van Halen The most ultimate Rock Band of all time R.I.P EVH
The charisma oozing from this band is astounding!
The greatest band on earth!💜
I've seen many hours of Led Zep and Rolling Stones concert footage but the Mighty Roth Halen blows them all away --- most electric live rock band of all time! They were the perfect example of getting a spectacular show that you can't get by sitting at home and listening to the record.
Zep roasted everybody, take it from someone who saw all of these bands in the 70s & beyond. Van Halen might have been in the top 10 of all the bands I’ve seen & I’ve seen most of them.
This was just so different than anything else, before or after. Funk music with a chainsaw
Between 77and 83, they made unique stuff
@@televisiondevil5235Zeppelin did not play with the same energy as Van Halen. Ever!
@televisiondevil5235 Zep is not in the same league in stage performance as VH and many 80's bands make them look like they are standing still. All respect to Zep there were great and paved the way.
Dave at his prime..Absolutely Smashes Sammy at his Prime. Lyrics, charisma, That scream, Trade mark drum riser leap, Way better interviews, Oh! Oh! I better watch it! here come the Fat Girl Love Ballad Groupies! That's the difference Sammy sings Love Ballads...Dave simply sings about Love..No Ballad B.S. Involved!
Damn! No one done it better than the original line up of Van Halen! Absolutely phenomenal and amazing live performance
saw this tour. Truly at their peak. Fair Warning was their best imo. LOVE it. It's like their Revolver/Rubber Soul. Back when rock concerts were killer.
In the beginning, MTV didn't have a lot of music videos in their rotation. You would have to suffer through a lot of poorly made videos to get to a good one. I remember seeing this as a 10-yr old and having it blow my mind. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I would wait for the spaceship launch at the beginning of every hour to see what three bands were "coming up".
My friends and I would pretend we were David, Eddie, Alex and Michael while at practice. "I got myself a brand new oakland scarf right here" became an inside joke at school. This video, along with "unchained," and "hear about it later" were played incessantly until the Van Halen "Pretty Woman" world premiere.
Van Halen was my first musical love. Still get goosebumps watching. Back when there was magic.
Yes and Iron Maiden run to the hills was another of the first’s we’d wait for
Puts a smile on my face everytime I watch it!! THE MIGHTY VAN HALEN!!!!
This is better than the studio version,Michael Anthony’s triplet run on the bass,Alex’s fills,Eddie being the goat(greatest of all time) and DLR’s swagger knowing he is in a kick arse (or is that ASS US friends?)band.Chemistry sublime.
It's ASS....but when we want to sound sophisticated it's ARSE.!...LOL
Never Again will they capture the power of the mighty Van Halen, these were awesome days, I was in High School this was the top tour of my sophomore year I will never forget, people who are younger missed a fucking great band, anything like it and they were from California like me classic stuff...
Same here. I listened to this on my Walkman every morning on the bus, inbetween classes, and at night before I fell asleep. Great time to be a kid and a VH fan!
@@chrispaneesh5475 God I miss young Van Halen

We will be partying like this again once this Corona virus passes. Even our old asses
Been binge listening to them lately. They were an amazing band. Eddie’s ability to write great songs is unparalleled in my opinion. Dave and Mike were magic together.
Now sammy talking shit saying Eddie struggled to write songs while praising satriani what a jerk
This the greatest band of all time and Eddie Van Halen is the greatest guitarist that ever walk the face of the Earth
VAN HALEN, the original lineup, had a very unique and attractive musical rock sweetness that no other bands that tried the same path couldn't, DIDN'T achieve. VAN HALEN IS, the sound of Eddie's guitar, Dave's voice, Mike's bass lines and Alex's drums. It's one sound achieved by four guys
Well seems like 3 of them forgot somewhere along the way. Even a genius can't do it all by himself.
Back then, Eddie Van Halen was my guitar hero and Van Halen was my favorite rock band. Total party time!! When this video first aired on a brand new cable TV station called MTV....life couldn't get any better. At the time, most pop musicians were doing these cheesy scripted lip sync videos. Then this video hit the air "Holy shit!!!! Van Halen did a live video!!"
Now this is what Van Halen was all about, captured here in the prime of their career. I was at their July 9, 1981 concert at MSA, Indianapolis. Amazing! They don't make bands like this nowadays, although Wolfgang is extremely talented and sounds great! I'm anxiously awaiting his second lp, and hope to see him in concert soon.
Absolutely the best! Pleasure to have seen VH and Diamond Dave solo back in the day!
DLR was one hell of an athlete and a bad ass front man
He was in those days yeah, but in his latter days with VH before Ed passed - his was all washed up, just walked aimlessly around on stage talkin' stupid.
Thanks you for blessing us with your music Eddie. Rest in Peace!
Geez, but this brings back some damned good memories. Those guys were just so powerful when they were on (which in those days, was just about always)! This video shows a little of why those days are missed (by me, anyway).
The Eddie Van Halen smile 😊. I’ll never forget you Eddie. 🎸🎸❤️
They were incredible live and in the studio so much talent simply magical ❤
Glad to have grown in the ages 😎 the best fucken decade hands down!!!
