If a magical genie gave me the chance to go back in time, and see three live shows from bands I missed during the last 50 years, I'd see Van Halen three times.
Man they were so good. One of the best live rock performances ever. Everyone is on point this sounds just like the studio recording. Eddie throws the kitchen sink into this song. All kinds of great guitar tones. Makita drill, Wah pedal, flanger, and all of his usual guitar wizardry. Wow. VH forever. RIP Eddie
BETTER than the studio recording. All 4 of them were at the top of their game. Alex followed Eddie, and Eddie followed Alex. Even after Eddie and Alex threw down, Michael and Sammy had a lot of space to do what they did - and they followed the Van Halen brothers' lead perfectly, without stepping on them. I wish I could have been there.
1991年のMTV Video Music Awardsの映像ですね。BS(NHKだったかWOWOWだったかはうろ覚え)で放送されました。
Right? Sound techs don't get the recognition they deserve. I've paid a lot of $ for some concerts where the band gave 100% and the sound tech fucked it all up. HUGE problem.
The Makita 9.6v cordless drill/driver that sparked the revolution of cordless power tools LOL....brought to you by the grandmaster of rock and roll guitar! Epic! RIP Edward!
What you heard on the vinyl, tape, cd is what you heard in concert. Not missing a beat. Only difference was what Eddie and crew provided during show. ALWAYS top notch and going away deaf for a few days after.
The best thing about the Sammy years was the whole band felt tight, together and happy...Sammy is and will always be one of the best front men ever...Pure energy on every level...Michael Anthony is way under rated and appreciated as a musician...I'm glad that Sammy and Michael have teamed up to make Chicken Foot...Cheers guys.
Couldn't agree with you more! The VH years with Sammy as front man got me through some really rough times! I love Sammy! I'm willing to bet that Sammy and Michael A. are some really cool guys to chill and have several beers with!
@@sunjester8254Just because they *became* unhappy at some point doesn't mean they were *always* unhappy. Eddie and Sammy were extremely tight at one point, and loved writing music together. A lot of whether people could get along with Eddie or not depended on how heavily he was drinking at that point, from the way I understand it.
can you name anyone specifically that 'way' underrates Michael Anthony as a musician?? ... have you ever had a conversation with someone that said, 'yeah, that Michael Anthony really sucks as a bassist and background singer'..? would just like to really pin down, with some facts, your idiotic claim that Michael Anthony is 'underrated and under appreciated' as a musician.
@@sunjester8254You really showed him 🤦♂️ They all said it was a great relationship for 11 years until the greatest hits controversy happened. Just because the relationship spoiled doesn't mean it wasn't a great relationship at one time. That's how life works.
Every year that goes by of Eddies passing I watch videos like this and I am simply in awe with him. Back then I just took in for granted listening to him play, now I pick up on things I never heard. He just made it look so dam easy.
Genius. Nobody else came CLOSE to his groove and timing. He was fast and loose, at the same time he was tight and perfect. Every note in this video is ON.
God Damn!!! Tight Tight Tight! Mike is Thundering Al is snapping the hell outta that snare, which everything revolves around Ed, what can you say about him that hasn't been said before Sammy sounds like he just stepped in from the mid 70's, he voice is TIMELESS! THE GREATEST BAND OF ALL TIME!!!
As someone who has seen them perform live on 8 separate occasions, I always loved how lose they would play live. Always loved EVH's improvisation live.
Absolutely, it does. The drums sound amazing all the way around, but that snare is just perfect. Especially for a TV broadcast, which can be tricky to get across.
Fun fact: Edward played all the bass on Fair Warning. Sunset Sound recording channel check it out. Not ditching Micheal Anthony. He is great. But there's a distinct difference on "push comes to shove".. Mike was Always prominent in the mix.
@@capnmo6718 I think he’s implying this album finally had the bass properly mixed. On 5150 and especially on OU812 the bass is almost nonexistent. Alex wasn’t happy with how the drums were mixed either. So they asked Alex what type of sound he was looking for and he said that big Bonham sound. So they got Andy Johns who was a producer for Zeppelin to produce the Carnal Knowledge album. That album had the drums and bass with plenty of bottom end to have that full sound. They sound a lot better here live than they did live on the OU812 tour. Theres pro shot recordings for the OU812 and Carnal Knowledge tour on youtube. Check them out and you’ll hear a huge difference in overall sound.
@@breauxcewayne1971 Great info on the recording of F.U.C.K., which I didn't know. The work of Andy Johns (and his brother Glyn) helped make some of the best rock records in history sound as good as they do. VH, Zeppelin, the Stones, Jimi Hendrix, etc., etc.

I received my hearing damage at an Aerosmith concert about 15 years ago. Only the left side is really bad and now I wear an ear plug on the left when going to a show. A little late......lol
Greatest live band ever. So glad I got to see them and experience the unbelievable talent of all 4 members of Van Halen in person. i saw them back in like 90 or 91 when they were touring with this album, they had Alice in Chains opening for them Layne had a broke leg at the time but they still put on a hell of a show, Van Halen's set was one of the best concerts I have ever been to, they blew me away both Eddie and Sammy had their own solos as well as Alex and Michael I will never forget it
I remember that tour. The crowd were all chanting " Eddie" about three songs near the end. Alice N Chains were pissed, the lead singer ended up spitting on the crowd at the end. Never listened to them since.
Van Halen, both Dave and Sammy are amazing! and course EDDIE the King...one of a kind... Anthony and Alex are both gifted too...This group probably the most exciting to watch when it comes to rock and roll...
I remember when the album came out and they came to San Jose, CA. This was the most rad song! Ed did a solo to open (as usual?) that included the national anthem. Then this was the first song. Soo powerful! The band could connect with people like me.
Loved Ed's rig in this era...flipped the guitar and amp market on it's ear going with Peavey and Ernie Ball. EVERY guitar magazine had a story about it.
They were the opening act of the MTV music awards.😂😂😂😂 imagine what the other bands that followed them were saying. Sucks for them to follow that. Their greatest live performance...period
Saw them live at the old Cap Center in Largo Maryland, 1986. They were amazing, so much better than I thought they would be. Hagar was running around on the rafters up above the crowd, I had no idea what a showman he was!
