      Yes but it has to be clean, it cannot have dust or dirt on it. If it gets dust on it it will not stick so the back of you would have to be wiped clean and the wall should be primed and clean. Other than that it sticks real well well. Thanks!

    Another great video! My wife wants a shiplap accent wall in our bedroom. We did our laundry room with this type of plywood but used brad nails. I was trying to think of a way to do it without the nails but also maybe not “permanent” in case she changes her mind a few years down the road😉

    • @rolfbjorn9937
      @rolfbjorn9937 3 года назад

      in 6 months that 3M tape is going to be adhered so hard that you're gonna rip the drywall and the wood to shreds. Hard to paint over torn drywall. So not temporary

    • @paulstoolbox
      @paulstoolbox  3 года назад +1

      Hi Kurt, hope you are doing well buddy! Rolf is right, it will be hard to remove without causing damage to the drywall. Nails will cause less damage if you want to go back to drywall. This is a good option for someone who doesnt have access to a nail gun and they want a fairly easy way to get a good look. I did this in my bathroom a couple of years ago and I still love it, if I get tired of the look I will paint over it, but thats just me. In most cases I would recomment this look for an accent wall, this way you can repair only one wall if you decide to go back to drywall. Merry Christmas my friend!

    Hey fellow diy'er and contractors. What, if any, potential moisture issues could I be faced with if I have a finished exterior wall that has has 1/2 foam board over the drywall and shiplap over the foam board. Btw concern is not rain or run off it's more about creating an enviroment that could increase moisture inside the wall because of high humidity outside and extreme differences between interior/exterior temps. By the way its in North GA.
    From Outside in:
    Press board lap siding
    1/2 foil faced foam board (not taped)
    2x4 studs filled with pink paper faced fiberglass insulation
    finished painted drywall
    1/2 foil faced foam board
    mdf type ship lap

    I like this idea. Wonder how lock dots would work. We use that for raised access floors with carpet tiles or for no VOC applications. That 3m exterior tape is pricy and tough to remove. Imagine it would pull the paper off bad down the road as it always seems to harden. If you haven’t seen lock dots they’re awesome. I spec them often and seems people never heard of them. Great videos, just started binging the channel and a new sub. Keep up the down to earth approach for common solutions.

    Question: I am in the process of sound deadening and wood paneling a steel camper shell with no ability to frame it without drilling through the shell (could lead to leaks, aesthetically unpleasant). Would this 3m tape hold under the heat and vibration of driving/offroading a little? I intend to use some fairly thin, but reasonably large ply. Roof sections may be 4 ' x 4'.

    • @paulstoolbox
      @paulstoolbox  2 года назад

      The double stick tape will hold lightweight panels on the wall but I would use rubber silicone to permanently adhere it. You need to make sure that the back of the plywood is extremely clean and the camper shell that you were attaching it to, you can take the silicone and fill a thick bead about -.5 to 2 inches away from the edges all around the ends of each panel and in between the tape. The tape will not hold if it is vibrating or moving for a long period of time but the silicone will and it should flex when needed. Keep in mind that I have never done this myself so I’m not absolutely positive it will work but if I were going to try it that would be my guess. Have a good day Luna!

    • @paulstoolbox
      @paulstoolbox  3 года назад +1

      Hi Paula, that makes a lot of sense. Yes it will need to be repaired and skimmed over with joint compound if you want to go back to drywall. This is a good option if you want an accent wall or if you already have a wall that needs work. You can cover it up with a nice wood look and it would not require much skill. This is merely an option and it can be painted any color to match the decore of any room. Thanks for bringing this up, it will help others decide if this would be a good option before moving forward.

    noob question, without a tongue and groove, are there ways to ensure that tape hold up over time ? that my primary fear. Also How does it flow over walls which are not so flat?

    • @paulstoolbox
      @paulstoolbox  3 года назад

      This tape is interior/exterior so it should be fine in your home. If your wall is wavy, you can use extra pieces to shim it. If your walls have a lump in it you can sand the high spots down. In my bathroom, I have a 45 degree angle in my wall that was way off. (Poor construction) I used 5/16" plywood on that wall and shimmed it out nearly 3/4". I nailed that section with 18 gauge nails and it looks great. Caution.. You MUST make sure the surface and the wood is clean without dust. I also recommend that you prime the wall. This tape holds well on a clean surface but if it has dust or dirt it probably won't.
      Thanks!

      Hi, If you are covering popcorn you can use the same type of wood but you should nail it to the studs where possible and use construction adhiesive in between. If you need it to be tight until the glue dries you can shoot the nails on an angle into the drywall so it will hold the wood in place until the glue dries. I sometimes use mastic as a glue.

    How does that work with fire codes for your county? My county restricts the overuse of wood accent paneling in residential living spaces as eliminates the fire resistant properties of the drywall and will allow a fire to become more intense in a room and spread faster, generating more heat and smoke. I believe it is also prohibited on the residential facing side of a garage as that requires fire resistant drywall.

I guess you would want to consult your local code enforcement before attempting this. I am not sure if mobile homes are restricted in your county but that is an oven, they are made of lightweight 2x2 material wrapped in metal.

      AFAIK 1/4 inch plywood is rated as a 15 min fire resistant material that you could use to cover freaking foam insulation in a living space. I would not do it for this application, as I would go for fire rated 5/8 drywall, but plywood OVER drywall could be seen as doubling the wall?
