@Max Beaumont Maybe one of Seb and Kimi as teammates? One of the most wholesome driver pairings there has been and Seb is only one beside Antonio Giovinazzi who got Kimi to be relaxed and open in front of media. Also many has asked you Sebastian content anyway 😉
@@maxpbeaumont Yes please! He is notorious for saying what's on his mind. Might I suggest a video compilation of interviews and one of radio messages when racing. Both of which you can find here on youtube. And if you're wondering about his skill, he's a hugely talented driver! Probably part of why he's so easy going about his career. He's never had to work really hard to be fast.
you're absolutely right about your analysis about kimi! we mostly call him the iceman for giggles, and he was by far the one who rejected the fame the most; his answers are matter-of-fact and often didn't give much else in terms of insight - one time he was asked what happened during a race, and he said "bwoah, i spun" 😂 his personality is brilliant, we love him a lot and we miss having him around in the paddock. Edit: YES you're right again! Kimi didn't do f1 for the glory - he always said it was more like a hobby for him, and last year, right after his retirement announcement, he didn't show up to the next race 😂 the official reason was he caught covid, but it was pretty much an open secret that he just didn't want to bother with all the excess media attention on him because of his retirement... 😂 PLEASE do more kimi! he's actually a really kind man who has a great sense of humour (as great as finnish humour can be) and quite often even just one look at him can make you laugh... he's brilliant.
This interview really shows why everyone loves Kimi. He doesn't give a sh*t but he's not rude or arrogant. He's calm and soft. If you bother him and ask him to do something he doesn't want, he's gonna let you know though. Some people only know him for this kind of "most famous moments" off the track, which is sad. This interviewer did a really good job because Kimi doesn't always look that confortable. He's kind of known for only speaking in extremely short sentences in public settings (or sometimes not even answering the questions). People I think Kimi looks confortable being around are Sebastian Vettel and Antonio Giovinazzi (both old teamates back in Ferrari). I think people who do not expect anything of him, treat him in the most normal way and let him be, then he'll come around and make jokes.
The name Iceman came right after he came in to f1. It has been speculated that the team principal who he had at the time wanted to protect Kimi. Kimi is softer than many think because of his nonchalantness. He is true family man (childhood family and his wife and kids are everything to him). He also is old school by not trusting contracts but a persons word. If you break his trust, you can't get it back either. So they called him Iceman to give him something to hide behind. Of course this cannot be proven but it makes sense. 🙂 Also about projecting his voice: he had an accident as a kid which damaged his vocal cords and he never healed 100%. That's why no projecting and not making all the tones perfectly even in his mothertongue.
> So they called him Iceman to give him something to hide behind. Yes I also think this is what it is. Weird that Mr communication expert can't see it or don't want to talk about it.
Adding some stuff now that I had time to watch this to the end. 🙂 Kimi cares about winning, about doing his best in car. He's motivated and was considered one of the best if not the best driver to develop car with mechanics. That's because he has incredible feeling of any machine he drives and ability to know what he's feeling and explain it to mechanics. He just hates the question of his motivation. And everyone interviewing him knows it, Will too. So it was almost a joke to ask about it at that point and he answers it with the same seriousness 😅😂 You asked of his achievements: He is one time world champion and with a bit more luck (aka car reliability) he could have had at least one or two more titles to his name. He also is driver who has driven second most races ever in F1 and did that during 20 years. In the paddock he hated paddock politics and also media. But when he said something in driver briefings (=drivers have a meeting with race director before every race where they can raise issues) everyone listened. Oh and Kimi is Finnish. Finns typically don't do small talk or play social games and sometimes we might come out as rude to other people. That's because we don't say things we don't mean just to be considered polite, like "let's meet up sometime". We say what we mean or nothing at all. Kimi just takes it to another level 😄
@@ricky4129 Actually, the name iceman resulted from a race where there was a rain delay, everyone was walking around in the pitlane and paddock, and Kimi was seen with a can of coca cola and an icecream cone. That was noted as remarkable, as many would think a driver would not drink/eat such things. So from then he was called the iceman, although him appearing a bit cold is probably part of the reason, it was not the main reason.
@Rob Kimi himself has said in the interview that the name Iceman were on his helmet already from the first McLaren year 2002 and that it was Ron Dennis who invented it. The icecream race was only in 2009. That has increased the imago only, not made it.
As someone who has followed all these F1 drivers for all of their careers I love that your analysis is so spot on. Let’s see if you’re right about my childhood hero Kimi.
@@maxpbeaumont ok as far as I know, everything you say is correct. (About his motivation it was like you said, he was naturally quick and had incredible awareness to do it on such a high level with less effort than most. Until his last year when he declined significantly)
Kimi is a racing god. He doesn’t need to care what anyone else thinks. He’s hysterical. He injured his vocal chords as a child which affects his voice.
You hit the nail on the head. I've met Kimi. He's not a people pleaser and he hates wasting time socialising with people he doesn't know nor like. He's a straight shooter. Has a very dry humour. He's a nice guy. And the interviewer Will Buxton has been in the business for a long time and is a really nice guy. Kimi is one of the most competitive drivers in F1 and a bold driver. He's also a funny guy.
As for his competitiveness, he was of the fastest (and cleanest) drivers ever, in terms of raw speed. He was successful very early on, and this was in the days of peak Schumacher - gave him a run for his money. He came very close to winning the 2003 championship, in his third season (!), and finally won it in 2007.
He used to be more closed before and as he became a father and grew older he became more open. If you look at some pre-2014 interviews in alot of them, he just answers with one word
When it comes to his talent, Kimi is one of the best natural talents the sport has ever seen. He came to F1 with special license since he had only 23 open wheel races in his life.. These days the junior get that in a year or two. He graduated from karts to F1 in 2 years. His main problem was his attitude, he went racing and then partied the rest of time, and when he stop partying he was with his family. The fastest man on the planet in 2005, missed the championship because of car reliability. Took on Schumacher in his second season in a big team, lost by 2 points.. again because of car reliability. He values loyalty above other aspects in personal relationships, he has had the same group around him the entire time. Promises are kept, mans word is enough. Quite old school in that way. This epitomizes Kimi, from his younger days in karting: "Räikkönen's next Monaco race was also memorable; he was thrown on the wrong side of the safety fence in a first lap collision but continued driving until running out of road. Undeterred, he lifted his kart back onto the track and continued to race. His mechanic thought Räikkönen had retired, but he eventually caught up with the other competitors and finished third."
Maybe difficult to believe but other drivers will tell you that he is the life and soul of a party especially after sinking a drink or three. Honestly. I'm really enjoying your analyses.
There's this video with Kimi and Giovanazzi where he's driving Gio around and you can really tell how Kimi's like when he's talking normally (as opposed to a media interview) with a guy he really likes (Gio used to hang out with Kimi's family and kids so they're actually friends off track as well it seems): ruclips.net/video/JlD9lbWF5WQ/видео.html
Despite his lack of people pleasing he is globally the most popular F1 driver for years. Even now years after he's retired he is still deeply missed. People Respect Honesty - It is incredibly rare in life in general and welcome at Elite Sporting Levels especially. I just wish You People Commented on his Racing talent which is First and Foremost. As a racer it was what made him special - No BS, sulkiness or shit spinning..just totally honest and gets on with it. He was prolifically fast 2003-2007- One of the fastest the sport will ever see without question but by far the Fairest of All fast racers ever and incredibly sharp and precise - these characteristics - he had No Rival in any form of Motorsport ever IMO - I'm a passionate MS fan of 50years. And yes he could be really cranky and angry if you pissed him off...He copped a lot of that 2005-9 - In particular when a paparazzi got in his face and literally stood over his gear whilst he was preparing for a race..He literally pushed the guy over..Insane levels of stupidity, politics and nonsense in F1 and he is naturally an introvert and laid back guy that had an Incredible competitiveness and natural ability to race (next level)- He definitely had "motivation" to go fast and to win - especially early on when he won his title but the ridiculous amount of bad luck with mechanical failures in 2003/5 Robbed him of certain multiple titles so when he eventually won at Ferrari in 2007 you can imagine it was like the "monkey was finally off his back" - he had nothing left to prove as most people knew he was the the best before this and still one of top 3 when he returned in 2012 -3. You have to understand his whole story to understand him fully. Very sorely missed a great racer and fantastic guy- that's just obvious if you watched the sport closely since before he came along.
Kimi once said: It's (F1) is more of a hobby for me. So you can see where his chill attitude comes from with theses answers. "i do it as long as its fun, and it isn't anymore, I quit"
Kimi is : what you see is what you get 100%. Gotta love him! Although in the beginning I was struggling to get him. But once you do, you'll love him. He really doesn't care what people think. He goes his own way. I think he might be the opposite of what most Americans are like. Generally they say the more North you go in Europe, the more people are like this..haha! Her truly was at peace with quitting F1 and didn't feel sad or anything about it. He wanted to spend more time with his family and young children. In the car while racing he can get quite agitated and passionate though. But I think most fans think that's funny. He had the best board radios because of it. We miss that! Watch a compilation of him driving and his board radios; they are famous. Also he was the last Ferrari World Champion (2007) LJ
I went to the same school as Kimi in Finland! There was one teacher remaining from Kimi’s era. That teacher told some very cool stories about a young Kimi Räikönen😂
He changed a bit after he left f1 tho...i was watching him race at Watkins Glen at Nascar...I think he gave one of his longest interviews of his career if not the longest one... i was really surprised lol he wouldn't stop speaking haha
@Henry He knew it was one of. He knew he didn't need to endure it 3-4 days a week every week. It makes it bearable to him. Also he could actually say no without being penalized somehow, so it was more on his own hands.
Its so funny that you said he isnt a "people pleaser" because thats exactly why people like him :D obviously alot of people just respect honesty and being real.
Can’t remember where I heard the story (it might have been a Kimi interview) but he was a mechanic for one of his best friends. And he turned out to be quicker in the car than his friend so that’s when he started racing. Year’s later when he got into F1 the same friend was his trainer and he’s been with him through his career.
It looks like he is in fact shy and the "don't care" stuff is a protection from the media/outside world. He doesn't come across as genuinely confident due to his voice and mimics.
Bwoah I think he got nicknamed the iceman from an ice cream sponsor on the car because like Max he was brought into F1 really fast, going from karts to formula Renault and then F1. It’s almost unheard of only Max has done the same. So he was highly questioned whether he’d be good or not so they kinda disguised who he was as to get in the seat and used a name that wasn’t Kimi. Plus he was always found sleeping like right before he needed to get on the track. Throw in his personality and you get the Iceman
Yes, especially in the way Seb will often use humour, lightness and flirtiness to deflect and defuse situations if he thinks they're too heavy or doesn't want to answer.
I love clips like, "Stop telling me what to do! I know how to drive." Recorded during a race, Kimi barks at his race engineer basically telling him to shut up! These F1 videos have been great. If you're looking for more high-test personalities, you might look into MotoGP, which is the two-wheel equivalent to F1. There are a whole host of riders that ooze personality. Here is a short list of possibilities from the past ten (or so) years: Valentino Rossi Cal Crutchlow Marc Marquez Andrea Dovisioso Aleix Espargaro Pol Espargaro Dani Pedrosa And for sentimental reasons: Marco Simonceli Nicky Hayden
I think his nickname Iceman is more to do with the way he drove in his entire F1 career: cool, calculated & extreme car control at all possible times Edit: Ok maybe not, to me it would've made more sense if it was but it isn't Everyone who really knows him say he's an incredibly nice & loving man. I'm inclined to believe them. I wish him the best life now!
If i remember correct that incredibly nice and loving man was key reason why his now wife Minttu fell in love with him. If my memory serves she spoke about how they met in some interview long time ago. She was flight attendant on his flight somewhere, and have been on the impression he is arrogant etc. But was the complete opposite, rest is history.
@@Kuutti_original I read somewhere during their wedding party he gave a spontaneous 15 minute speech to her & her alone & a friend of theirs said it was the most beautiful thing he ever heard :D Also when he & Antonio were going to leave Abu Dhabi & Alfa Romeo, he told him to text him once he landed safely. So he seems like a really kindhearted man
@@Nathi98 That one i havent heard about! But thats not suprise at all, it is exactly what impression i have got from him. Seems pretty nice person, and as a Finn i dont find any problems on his way of talking. One could only wonder why.. lol and thank you!
kimi raikonnen is not my fav driver but definitely the most interesting f1 driver i've ever seen. while other drivers look super focused, super disciplined, n give all those smart answers, kimi was just being kimi. the idgaf attitude, really chilled out n never (at all) put an effort to try to be likeable on camera even though he's basically on live tv worldwide almost every week for around 20 years. i don't find that inspiring like hamilton but just amused n it really added kimi's own flavour in F1
I worked up at a Finnish Shipyard for 5 years in the 80,s and his just being a Finn. I dated a Finn and her family didnt really do small talk. And Finns do have a temper, Later I married a Norwegian and my wifes father said there was an old Norwegian saying about a Finn and his knife are never far apart.
As you stated at the end there have been some moments where he's been annoyed with reporters which would be cool to analyze, one time he even walked away from one when they asked a question he felt was stupid lmao
Finns in general don't hype things. He's a F1 world champion. A smart funny focused guy. He loves driving and racing, but not the media and the rest of the circus. The reporters have a habit of putting words to people's mouths, asking silly questions and then writing whatever they feel like. Especially during his early career, the media and comedians made fun of voice and how he speaks. His vocal cords got injured when he fell with a bike when he was 5.
Only Kimi could get away with the things he did, even as a Ferrari driver. Yet I’ve NEVER heard of anyone NOT LIKING Kimi. Bwoah! Even drunk/sleeping Kimi.
He's from Finland. That has a lot to do with the way he is. There is no such thing as an awkward silence in Finland, rather the opposite. You say something when you have something worthwhile to say and that's it.
Kimis voice is strange, because he hit his neck in a dirtbike accident when he was young and it damaged his vocal chords. But he also started to talk quite late..
When he says he never had motivation he is being ironic. Can’t you see the smirk on his face? This was an inside joke because the reporters always ask him about it
Mostly a lot of the genuine smile here is that it depends on the people who interviews him. People like Will Buxton,Natalie Pinkham,Martin Brundle and a few more at least understands how to properly interview him if it is with your everyday media the guy will be flat as f*ck

It looks like he is in fact shy and the "don't care" stuff is a protection from the media/outside world. He doesn't come across as genuinely confident due to his voice and mimics.
Kimi ❤️
Kimi has always hated interviews, but we all wish there was so many more.. best 1 liners ( or 1 workers) of all time
Bwoah
I think he got nicknamed the iceman from an ice cream sponsor on the car because like Max he was brought into F1 really fast, going from karts to formula Renault and then F1.
Another good Kimi one would be Kimi scaring Giovinazzi on the Nordschleife.
Some of the iceman moniker also comes from his driving, if I'm not mistaken.
The motivation part is an irony from Kimi. Because his motivation was questioned since 2006.
KIMI1❤
Could you do sebastian vettel next? he's been teammates with both kimi and charles
yessssss seb 🥺🥺🥺🥺 i still can't believe he's retiring this year 💔
Yes, especially in the way Seb will often use humour, lightness and flirtiness to deflect and defuse situations if he thinks they're too heavy or doesn't want to answer.
Kimi is the top specimen of sigma male
Kimi is the 2007 F1 World Driving Champion with Ferrari.
Kimi is my god! Kimi at prime was the fastest guy on this planet. Do watch his 2003-07 and 2012-13 videos
Here is a short list of possibilities from the past ten (or so) years:
Valentino Rossi
Cal Crutchlow
Marc Marquez
Andrea Dovisioso
Aleix Espargaro
Pol Espargaro
Dani Pedrosa
And for sentimental reasons:
Marco Simonceli
Nicky Hayden
Ferrari world champion from humble background, only his skills to rely upon. Fighter mentality!
Nice vid!
thank you
Kimi do what Kimi does...
Carlos Sainz + Lando Norris milk challenge, check this one :)
I think his nickname Iceman is more to do with the way he drove in his entire F1 career: cool, calculated & extreme car control at all possible times Edit: Ok maybe not, to me it would've made more sense if it was but it isn't
Everyone who really knows him say he's an incredibly nice & loving man.

I read somewhere during their wedding party he gave a spontaneous 15 minute speech to her & her alone & a friend of theirs said it was the most beautiful thing he ever heard :D
Also when he & Antonio were going to leave Abu Dhabi & Alfa Romeo, he told him to text him once he landed safely.
In his mclaren days, raikkonen was arguably fastest man on the planet ...
he definitely was the fastest over one lap. martin brundle said he had sennas speed
its not hard, he is finnish and honest
KIMI!!!!!!
he's from finland, that's his attitude resumed, and also he was considered one of the fastest drivers in f1, very competitive and also world champion
Would also add that he have always been tough but fair competitor. This is something what numerous other champions and drivers of his era have said.
This is an F1 channel interview. Check his radios and/or other interviews. He radiates a different energy!
F1 is my hobby - kimi
Kimi team radio reactions please
He did said f1 is just a hobby to him
I'm usually here for BTS so I didn't expect to see Kimi here. 😅 Eikun torille!
Kimi Quote: I know what am doing
What do u like about your helmet
Kimi: Well it protects my head
F1 became more like a hobby for him
I worked up at a Finnish Shipyard for 5 years in the 80,s and his just being a Finn. I dated a Finn and her family didnt really do small talk.
And Finns do have a temper, Later I married a Norwegian and my wifes father said there was an old Norwegian saying about a Finn and his knife are never far apart.
Vettel next!
I dare you to watch one of the Ferrari christmas promo videos 😂
"Max discovers finnish people for the first time" :D
I would love a part 2 for lewis hamilton !
It would be amazing if you check Carlos and Lando, they were great together!
Kimi is the best. Sadly not in F1 anymore. Asked by pundit Martin Brundle, where he had been, Kimi just replied: " I was taking a shit."
Spot on there! Kimi doesn’t or didn’t give a shite😂. But apparently, they say, Finns just don’t waste their breath on small or pointless talk.
As you stated at the end there have been some moments where he's been annoyed with reporters which would be cool to analyze, one time he even walked away from one when they asked a question he felt was stupid lmao
Yeah, usually though those are short interviews, so not much to analyze 😂
@@magicofshootingstar you right you right😂
Finns in general don't hype things.
Finns dont like to deal with bullshit. If youre straight forward and dont ask stupid questions after the race he doesnt mind 😂
for some reason i think of consuela from family guy with some of kimi his answers
Only Kimi could get away with the things he did, even as a Ferrari driver. Yet I’ve NEVER heard of anyone NOT LIKING Kimi. Bwoah! Even drunk/sleeping Kimi.
watch his radio racing compilation
Check out Adrian Sutil, Pascal Wehrlein & Juan Pablo Montoya, please?
Search for some old interviews of Ralf Schumacher in the paddock lol
About kimi's gruff voice, he suffered an accident as a kid that affected his throat and therefore his vocal cords.
He's from Finland. That has a lot to do with the way he is. There is no such thing as an awkward silence in Finland, rather the opposite. You say something when you have something worthwhile to say and that's it.
Pls react to his radio messages they’re hilarious
Ice King
Btw he is Ferrari’s last world champion (2007)
Please react to a compilation of his hilarious moments 😂
Kimis voice is strange, because he hit his neck in a dirtbike accident when he was young and it damaged his vocal chords. But he also started to talk quite late..
Please react to the F1 drivers team radios
When he says he never had motivation he is being ironic. Can’t you see the smirk on his face? This was an inside joke because the reporters always ask him about it
Mostly a lot of the genuine smile here is that it depends on the people who interviews him. People like Will Buxton,Natalie Pinkham,Martin Brundle and a few more at least understands how to properly interview him if it is with your everyday media the guy will be flat as f*ck
