Hi, I think as you gradually get into F1, later you may talk about radio communication techniques of the teams, as in how they deliver info effectively, or how they manage the emotions of drivers. Give some examples of good comm vs bad comm. Ferrari may learn a thing or two from you hopefully. 😂 As for driver analysis, I’m interested in Mick Schumacher. He seems to be genuinely sweet and nice but also have a complex side. Thank you.
My dad - Mark Slade - is the engineer guy on the radio for the "Massa! Massa!" clip, he always says that Kimi was one of his favourite drivers to work with because of his honesty :) they got on really well and my dad tailored the way he communicated to Kimi in a way that suited the both of them
He's Finnish. Being blunt and in-your-face level honest is just him being Finnish. It's a cultural thing. In Finland being direct and honest is valued way much more than being polite. Kimi just turns that up a notch.
@@formatique_arschloch To be fair when Finns speak Finnish, most of them are much more indirect than they think they are. It all just gets lost in translation, because the languages are so different. Thanks to enclitics such as -han, -pa and -s, in Finnish you can start out very bluntly and then mellow it out immediately after. In English you often have to phrase the entire sentence differently in order to be polite. The most notable exception is the word "please" that can be added later on. However, to complicate the matters further, the word "please" has found its way into Finnish as well - but instead of being polite it is something kids would say when they are begging something. Many Finns therefore have difficulties making use of it when speaking English, because their instinct is that it is kind of childish and rude word to use.
"Leave me alone- I know what to do" is Kimi's most classic quote. He always seemed like he was happier battling for fifth place than leading by 15 seconds in first position.
Not training, quali lap. I was there! "Raikkonen produced a lap of one minute, 19.119 seconds and beated Vettel and Hamilton to pole in Monza qualifying, posting the fastest lap in F1 history." Sadly Hamilton later broke that rekord. But "records are there to be broken." (Schumacher interview).
Him pushing that photographer was definitely warrented because he got all up in Kimi space right before a race. During this time the drivers have to be completely focussed and in the zone so Kimi dealt with that annoyance as only kimi could
Maybe talk to him or tell some of your Ferrari crew (your manager) to get him 'out of the way for you'. No need for physical absue/attack. It's not okay to push people around. He seems to have a problem with people entering is comfort zone. This is my space & please don't get to close too me. I totally understand & feel the need to keep a good feel & privat space for yourself - incredibly annoying if people complain or push from behind at supermarket queue for example (at a bus stop at school). Touching & pointing gives me nightmares because of a event in my late childhood... The conveyor belt at local checkout point doesn't run any faster if you are right behind another customer. I sometimes wish I was as brave as Kimi & simply walk back...
@@999999SkyGuy it was also not okay from the photographer to get this close. Kimi's stuff was on the ground also, and I think he was complaining about it mainly, rather than being too close to him. BTW that was also rude from the guy. If you watch e.g Martin Brundle's grid walks, he, and all the other reporters and journalists aks the driver if it's okay to say a few words. Minutes before the race start they are already being in their "full attack" zone, you need to set up your mind for that, it's just not as easy as hopping into your car, to go for shopping, it's also not equivalent to your daily comfort zone. And everyone in the paddock, who is working there as a professional must know that. So I think his reaction is quite much understandable, and I'm not trying to defend. I just wanted to highlight, that it was not an attacking attempt, he was doing it on self defense, in the heat of the moment. We have seen it many times, that if the journalists (or whoever) is showing some signs of respect, he is not acting like a dick.
Funny story about kimi, when he was driving for lotus he got paid an extra 50k per point he scored, the team were not expected him or the car to be that good. He ended up gaining something silly like 12million in bonus point payments but lotus didn't have 12m to pay him. To this day they still owe him 6m I believe however they stated that if they paid that to him it would bankrupt the company and it would have to close down. Kimi said okay I don't want anyone to loose their jobs so just don't pay me. May have messed the story up abit but that's the gist
When Kimi came to the sport, F1 had turned into VERY "hygienic" and corporate. Drivers were instructed very carefully what they can and can't say, how to thank sponsors and "we give 110%".. all of that crap. So, when Kimi arrived we got immediately someone who just did not give a shit about any of that. And while teams tried to curb him, control him he amassed such a popularity that no team could touch him anymore: because it was that honesty that made him the fan favorite, that honesty was selling a LOT of merch and it was easy to get sponsors... His honesty worked as a shield against bullshit and we loved every moment of it. The new "class" of younger drivers are also now more open and i think that Kimi paved a way for that, the big wigs finally understood that F1 will sell better if they do NOT try to control drivers so much.
Finland has one of the best schools of F1 racers, they are mostly very cold and focused on driving, but Kimi surpasses them all with his honesty and directness. I adore him!
Few notes: that last clip, he was being sarcastic, about the pushing other guy, because FIA (formula management) wasnt doing anything about that, so raikkonen said ''if thats legal, I will do the same'' .. Also, there are few team radios where he sounds like a guy who is hard to work with, but thats not the case (lots of people in F1 paddock have only praises for him, 0 negativity).. Those are radios from the heat of the moment, cuted from actual happenings, so they can sound like that to the outsiders...
I agree. and I mean no matter how easy-going a person is everybody has a line, human beings are human beings. him being nonchalant doesn’t mean he is immune to anger or frustration.
Kimi's grumpy radio compilation didn't do him justice at all.. All of them really is in the heat of the moment.. I don't really like newer fans who judged Kimi from his heated team radio.. These fans are hypocritical. For his whole career Kimi is rarely confrontational.. One example that really impressed me is the Canada 2008 when Hamilton hit Kimi's car from behind in the exit of pit lane (red light) - some people said that it's deliberate sabotage- and Kimi, he has every right to be upset (when we can see how many drivers will scream and try to pick a fight) Kimi just gestured to Hamilton that "it's red light" very playful..
Kimi is Kimi and we F1 Fans just love his easy going but straight personality incl his awesome dry humor :D He is the typical finish guy. Bottas is similar but on the other side, there is no second Kimi and we miss him!
The "if thats legal" comment isnt about him not knowing the rules. He knows full well its against the rules, and he is just sarcastically calling it out
A great lesson to learn from Kimi is: be a good person both good to people and good at what you do, then you can be as honest and straightforward as you want and people will still love you.
When he launched his motocross team in Belgium i saw him and was kinda starstruck and was there with my little niece.. and he came over was super nice. And i got the feeling he doesn't mind fans in fact he appreciates them all.. just the cameras aren't his thing

What a perfect analysis. Kimi is an extremely confident man who's very comfortable with what he is, what are his abilities, where he comes from and he doesn't care about anything else but driving fast and his family and friends
There are a number of things you need to take into account:- 1.The noise in F1 sometimes means drivers have to shout & sometimes reception quality means they can’t hear properly or they can’t be heard! 2.Every driver gets frustrated and shouts at their engineer. We are only hearing isolated snippets AND we hear more from Kimi because he is the most liked driver out there. So of course that gives an unfair comparison. 3.He is one of the greats that drove in far lesser teams toward the end of his career and he never once demanded special crews etc, so sometimes you will get people that “need to be told”. Despite what people think Kimi is driven to help push the team forward and is professional. 4. At the speed these guys are driving and the intensity of battle - there is NO time for niceties and blunt direct communication is Best!.They all know its not personal and speak only of respect off track!. 5.Whilst Kimi speaks clear enough English we must remember it is Not his first language and sometimes things get lost in translation. I prefer assertive honesty & bluntness, to passive- aggressive, untruthful, manipulative and scheming types in F1 of which there are many. This why Kimi is so well liked - you can see he is an honest, non-political, super talent - that doesn’t flaunt it- thats why we do it for him. 6.I would be pissed too if some idiot is sat almost directly over my clothes bag whilst Im cooling off & right in my face with a camera. Kimi turn to get stuff out of his bag and almost accidentally headbutts this cameraman because he's so close. Angry ?- I'd be tempted to punch the clown in the head. Some people are just too stupid and caught up in the hype of the sport - thats why Kimi loathed all these other aspects. There are countless acts of stupidity throughout his long career.
I think a good “series” of videos you should check out is the relationship between Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel and the between Seb and Michaels son Mick. A slight bit of context: Both Micheal and Seb are German racers and when Seb joined the sport, Micheal took him under his wing and basically became his on track dad. The 7x WC taught Seb everything he needed to know. Micheal retired in 2006 and Vettel would go on to win 4 back-back WC and is arguably the most professional racer on the grid! Sadly in 2013 Micheal had a Skiing accident which resulted in him being paralysed and unable to talk. In 2019 his son Mick joined F1 and just like Micheal did to him, Vettel took Mick under his wing helped him as much as he could and again, became an on the track farther figure for Mick as well as the only real connection he has to his father in terms of asking him and talking to him about F1. Seb is retiring at the end of this year. (A side note, Seb is VERY vocal about the FIA (F1 governing body) and isn’t afraid to call them out when he doesn’t agree with them and I think it’s safe to say that his disagreement with them, has played apart in his decision to retire - as well as wanting to spend time with family more).
Kimi knows the rules and he knows what Max (driver, not reactor 😂) was doing was not allowed. It was more like: "if nobody isn't going to penalize him of doing that, why would I race him fairly either" to which his race engineer answered that he will take the matter to Charlie aka race director. Kimi didn't really just "fell" into racing. He needed to fight his way in because he isn't from whealty family. He actually used his first big paycheck from racing to renovate his family home so that there would finally be inside toilet (!). Though you are right on the fact that he is naturally talented driver and loves racing. In the "I spun" comment the funny part for most was not so much him not caring what happened to others but the fact that he didn't elaborate on why or how he spun as every other driver would have done. Also he cared about Massas penalty because Massa was the guy driving in front of him. 🙂 The OK was more like "Oh, so I don't need to rage from unfair punishments? That's nice." This was nice reaction but the clips in the original video were cut a bit too short for my taste or then it was about editing of this video. I hope it was the latter and you got to experience the clips properly. 🙂
I miss watching Kimi in F1. He really has a unique personality among F1 drivers. I would like to suggest reacting to funny F1 press conferences so you can see how the drivers respond to reporters and how they interact with other drivers. Maybe you can also try to react to other sports like tennis or basketball.
Thank you, this is great and spot on for Kimi. Loving your F1 videos. There are so many personalities you can choose from in F1. Definitely can do Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso, Daniel Ricciardo just to name a few and then possibly some of the other current driver pairs like you did with Carlos and Charles would be very interesting.
kimi is really one of a kind. he's a world champion yet unlike the others where they seem to be so focused n behaving like really zoned in n calculated atheletes, here was a really chilled out kimi w that idgaf attitude driving for ferrari after almost bankrupting his previous team bcs he was too good n his overperformance costed them tens of millions $. n he was racing at the highest level of racing just simply bcs he loves racing n not after the pride n glory.
You definitely should react to Daniel Ricciardo! There are so many compilations of his best moments on here, it could easily be a multiple-part series in and of itself.
The best radio is the one where Kimi’s water system has gone kaput and his engineer pretends he can’t hear him: “And yet you answer still” Won’t see his like again.
At #3 photographer stepped on his gear and he flipped. When the driver is wearing a helmet it's not advised to go near. Kimi is one of the all-time best in sport giving comments for mechanics how to adjust car.
Apparently he actually wasn't hard to work with, well he doesn't talk much and when he's in the car, just don't disturb him. But the amount of information and feedback the engineers apparently got from him and how far ahead of thinking in race settings and so on, was quite massive according to a few interviews I've seen with his engineers. And when he was in Lotus, he nearly bankrupted the team, since he got a fixed bonus per point he earned.
Great video..... think the hole F1 is missing him since he's not F1 anymore this season. Not many people don't like him as fans... not sure about the people needing to work with him, that might be different. But did never hear somebody saying something negative about him being this way. Think we all love him for it. The closest to him will be Alonso... might be great to see him next... more fire in him for sure but also not caring what others think about him attitude.
Alonso is interesting person but totally not close to Kimi. Alonso plays games and burns bridges, both things Kimi would never do. Still it would be interesting to see what he thinks of Alonsos communication too 🙂
@@magicofshootingstar is that not part of not giving a f*** what others think, in such an extend he would burn bridges? Ok, maybe I miss kimi a little and look for others who having his style... I guess nobody near him, not giving a f*** in such a way he's not being hated for it.
@a tmoz Well, I guess you are right that some people might be offended on Kimis behaviour. He can be rude if people are rude to him first. What I have understood though is that if you are his friend once (and don't break his trust) you will be one forever. Also I have understood that he has very good relations on all of the teams he has raced for. He speaks nicely even from people in Lotus (/Alpine), even if it ended with team owning money to him to this day. Alonso is famous of burning the bridges when he leaves from the team. Though he has gone back to some of his old teams and mended relationships too.
Honestly, if you watched his interview during his nascar return this year, you’d be surprised how much more relaxed he is. It shocked me, he went from barely saying anything in f1 in 20 years to borderline willing to be a college professor in his nascar interviews at Watkins Glen, despite crashing out early
My thought on the first situation is that, somewhere before that, a reporter asked him for "some words" to the finnish fans and he (with his very own straight face) started to talk in finnish. This time, the reported asked specifically for "some wordsin finnish".. So I think (or at least I want to believe) he just made some sort of "private joke" while keeping his attitude of doing whatever he wants.
Kimi is straight to the point and doesn't give a shit. As you said, he's there to drive and nothing else. He isn't there for the fame or the glory that comes with being an F1 drivers. In this way, I feel that him and Max Verstappen are quite similar. They don't care what anybody thinks of them. They just want to drive and be left alone. I love them for that
sebastian vettel was in a clip or two and he's who im most interested to see!! partly bc hes my fav but also i think he is just all around the most interesting person on the grid. seems very very very well balanced in every aspect. i wonder if you'd feel the same or could use your knowledge to pick up on something that people less informed on communication and personalities cant pick up!
Great video as always! I highly suggest checking out Kimi's old teamate Sebastian Vettel. He has the same "dont give a damn" mentality but has the opposite approach as he is more emphatic and quick witted than Kimi.
Absolutely need to do this for Daniel Ricciardo! Also would be awesome for you to compare what you saw of Max in the previous video compared to Max when he is with his current teammate, Checo Perez or his old teammate, Daniel Ricciardo. Both of which show you a very different side to Max!
There is a video from F1 themselves that show some of the biggest classics that are missed here. Maybe fun to watch as well if you ever plan to revisit this.
5:03 he may look like someone who's hard to work with but as many of his former race engineers have attested he's far from being that type of a person. Will give you very honest great feedback on his car setups and the situations he's in during the driving sessions. Also is quite jokey with his mechanics or engineers plus he's one of the few drivers who literally hates radio chatter. As his other former race engineer Mark Slade famously said "he's always been like that on the radio except back then they weren't on broadcast."
It didn't have my two favorite Kimi moments. One was about wither or not his drinking water was available. The other being him demanding his gloves and steering wheel.
He knows the rules. He was being illegally pushed off track and it didnt seem action was being taken. He was just saying if they're going to allow pushing off track he will do the same.
checkout the pitstop f1 podcast they talk with his mechanics, Marc Priestley, he is very lovely guy to work with in McLaren. A lot of fascinating and hillarious story about him.
I really do like Daniel Ricciardo bc he is so into media and funny. Still Kimi answers to stupid questions as he should. Like completely different ends of drivers...well 1 has world championship and other doesn't.
This is very classic Finnish behavior. You're not supposed to make a big deal of yourself or of your possessions/successes etc(other Nordic people know this as "Law of Jante" or "Jenteloven"). Finnish people also pride themselves on being super honest and straight forward and they absolutely loathe all kinds of small-talk.
Who's next? Definitely going to continue down the F1 rabbit hole.

Kimi always made me laugh. Love him.
HELL YEAH MORE KIMI
That's nice."
This was nice reaction but the clips in the original video were cut a bit too short for my taste or then it was about editing of this video.
There are probably one or two clips of Kimi being Kimi answering a question and the other drivers trying to keep a straight face.
That last one was clearly a sarcasm, he obviously knows the rule book. At least the most part of the rule book.
Loving these F1 videos x
Thank you, this is great and spot on for Kimi. Loving your F1 videos. There are so many personalities you can choose from in F1. Definitely can do Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso, Daniel Ricciardo just to name a few and then possibly some of the other current driver pairs like you did with Carlos and Charles would be very interesting.
Please react to charles leclerc being stupid for 15 minutes straight I think this video shows his true personality 😂😂
where is the vid?
It's on RUclips just search that title 😇
My favorite driver of the last 2 decades. He was absurdly good at the wheel and about the only one not talking PR bullshit.
You need to check out the 2018 FIA awards ceremony (drunken Kimi)
He's brilliant! 🤣👍🏻
max, he is a Fin. they dont even have a word for excited... that says a lot.
my favorite Kimi moment was the preseason predictions thing that they opened at the end of the season. he said that he'll retire.
I can't believe they didn't add the "I was taking a shit" clip in this compilation.
kimi is really one of a kind. he's a world champion yet unlike the others where they seem to be so focused n behaving like really zoned in n calculated atheletes, here was a really chilled out kimi w that idgaf attitude driving for ferrari after almost bankrupting his previous team bcs he was too good n his overperformance costed them tens of millions $. n he was racing at the highest level of racing just simply bcs he loves racing n not after the pride n glory.
Man, I miss Kimi on the grid. In the superficial world of F1 he was just real…and cool.
I must be honest Kimi was one of my favorite drivers
You definitely should react to Daniel Ricciardo! There are so many compilations of his best moments on here, it could easily be a multiple-part series in and of itself.
Kimi is a legend, he really doesn't give a flying fuck. bless that man.
The best radio is the one where Kimi’s water system has gone kaput and his engineer pretends he can’t hear him: “And yet you answer still” Won’t see his like again.
He is so Finnish! 😂 We Finnish ppl are honest and straightforward.
At #3 photographer stepped on his gear and he flipped. When the driver is wearing a helmet it's not advised to go near. Kimi is one of the all-time best in sport giving comments for mechanics how to adjust car.
Nice
Yes!
And when he was in Lotus, he nearly bankrupted the team, since he got a fixed bonus per point he earned.
really was hoping to see the 2006 monaco gp in this one, missed chance
@a tmoz
Well, I guess you are right that some people might be offended on Kimis behaviour.
@@magicofshootingstar well sad... although think Alonso could burn a bridge when still there. The famous GP2 engine was he still not under contract?
Honestly, if you watched his interview during his nascar return this year, you’d be surprised how much more relaxed he is. It shocked me, he went from barely saying anything in f1 in 20 years to borderline willing to be a college professor in his nascar interviews at Watkins Glen, despite crashing out early
Could you share a link please? I would love to see those interviews.
@@PriscillaAmal if you type “Skewcar Kimi Raikkonen” on the search bar, It’ll show all the interviews and press conferences he had that weekend
@@davisowen97 Thank you.
Kimi telling the journalist he wasn't present cause he went to take a shit should've made it to his top 15.
you are unfortunately wrong sir. we all love kimi
Massa getting a penalty can have serious implications for kimi's strategy. The comment about the rules was sarcasm.
The reason for the push was that the cameraman stepped on Kimi's stuff, by accident of course.
kimi is king
There are only two things you need to know about Kimi: he loves racing. He hates the press.
He was a fast and clean driver when he wasn't having a sh.t.
very few dislike Kimi...he is an absolute legend!!!
My favourite Kimi story is probably how he almost bankrupted Lotus by hugely exceeding expectations and way overperforming lol
Great video as always! I highly suggest checking out Kimi's old teamate Sebastian Vettel. He has the same "dont give a damn" mentality but has the opposite approach as he is more emphatic and quick witted than Kimi.
Any video of Seb and Kimi together is fantastic, you can tell how simpatico they are and Seb will take point because Kimi is...Kimi
I have the F1 Kimi shirt …leave me alone I know what I’m doing. Best Kimi quote. So sad he retired.
And there is the drink saga...
Absolutely need to do this for Daniel Ricciardo! Also would be awesome for you to compare what you saw of Max in the previous video compared to Max when he is with his current teammate, Checo Perez or his old teammate, Daniel Ricciardo. Both of which show you a very different side to Max!
Ofc, because one pushes him and the other did not 😂
you should watch Kimi guess the rating of his co-driver in both F1 2021 and F1 2022 games, it's hilarious
WTF= Welcome to Finland. Kimis ultimate F1 radio collection? Thats legendary. Thumbs up for that?
You can hardly find someone who doesn't like Kimi
I'd love for you to react to Mick Schumacher - it feel to me he's so skripted in interviews, only repeating stuff his PR Team/Management tells him to
what car kimi likes to drive in civilian life the most? yes. he likes to drive a van. :D
kimi: bowah~
The main reason why Kimi was like that is because he didn't like reporters much :)
I am very curious about what you think of lance stroll
you should watch the clip "Kimi's hobby" from drive to survive^^
I love all of these reactions to the f1 guys! Would love if you maybe reacted to Sebastian Vettel! He's my favourite driver! :)
if we're talking abt teammate relationships, you should check out Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda videos as well !
Lol I miss him
He knows the rules. He was being illegally pushed off track and it didnt seem action was being taken. He was just saying if they're going to allow pushing off track he will do the same.
it's more like a hobby for him
i think Kimi hates stupid questions when he talk with other drivers and guys who knows what racing is about he can talk a lot (for him ofc :D)
checkout the pitstop f1 podcast they talk with his mechanics, Marc Priestley, he is very lovely guy to work with in McLaren. A lot of fascinating and hillarious story about him.
Kimi is quintessentially Finnish.
I really do like Daniel Ricciardo bc he is so into media and funny. Still Kimi answers to stupid questions as he should. Like completely different ends of drivers...well 1 has world championship and other doesn't.
Can you please share the background music you used here
This is very classic Finnish behavior. You're not supposed to make a big deal of yourself or of your possessions/successes etc(other Nordic people know this as "Law of Jante" or "Jenteloven"). Finnish people also pride themselves on being super honest and straight forward and they absolutely loathe all kinds of small-talk.
For what!?
"MASSA?! Massa has a penalty!"
I think he had the least amount of haters among the fans while he was driving. I know no one who didn't like him.
Why F1 is so much more BORING without Kimi!!
I’m just here so I don’t get fined
Yuki and Pierre please
