I just hope the land isn't too cluttered though (mainly in terms of ip) but to be fair there have been worse fitting options.

The one problem I have with South America is a general problem of Disney World: a lack of original ideas. Imagine if we got an attraction based on ziplining through the jungles of Costa Rica, or a lush jungle boat ride through the Amazon. Also the odd connotation of Latin American people-oriented IPs being used in Animal Kingdom still feels off to me. Unlike Up, in which animals are very much a main part of the plot and it happens in Venezuela, Coco and Encanto are not animal-oriented movies at all. The only way I see this working out is if the attractions focus on the animals of the stories (Alebrijes for Coco and perhaps Antonio’s gift for Encanto) instead the stories themselves. And Indy I mean… he doesn’t really fit much with the concept either way so that’s a whole different story.

    • @BrianCannan-em1nk

The likely hood of Indy at Animal Kingdom being a “better” version of Disneyland is super unlikely. Dinosaur is way smaller in scale show building wise then Indy despite a good chunk of the layout being very similar. In fact, most of Dinosaur is separated by thin walls and curtains. Whatever it ends up being, it will definitely be a different experience so I’m curious to see what imagineering does with these new limitations.

When Encanto comes to AK, have it focus on Antonio's room. Maybe it can be like a roller coaster type of ride where Guests are riding on a jaguar, similar to what Antonio did or have it focused on Antonio explaining about his animal friends. Even though Indiana Jones is my favorite ride in Disneyland, I don't get why it's coming to AK. His movies are usually around adventures. I'm glad Indy will be getting his ride in WDW though.

  • @SonicSnail95

I think the key word for their approach is "careless". The IP comes before the theme, they decide what's going where and then concoct a justification after the fact. They had a new Haunted Mansion movie come out, so let's add something to the Mansion. It's cheap and easy to clone a decade-old animatronic, but we don't have anywhere to put him. So just slap him wherever and type up a blurb to explain away why he's there despite it not fitting with the story. Just put anything anywhere, who cares. Dinosaurs are objectively a vital part of Animal Kingdom's theme and identity, but Indiana Jones and Encanto sell more merch. They're looking for a Dinoland replacement and these are some brands that would make for a fairly straightforward overlay, but Encanto and Indy have nothing to do with animals, so let's justify their inclusion by making a South America section (despite Indy films only going to South America in the beginning of Raiders and the latter half of Crystal Skull). The question wasn't "what is Animal Kingdom missing" or "how could we expand upon this theme", it was "how do we justify putting IP into this park without being totally transparent in just wanting a Frankenstein collage of recognizable things for people to buy".
Hell why not put Toy Story in Animal Kingdom too, and justify it with a Southwestern US section themed to Woody's Roundup? Think of how much merch you could sell, it'd be like having two Toy Story Lands at once!

You've hit the nail on the head. Theming does not matter to them anymore, and neither does quality. Imagine instead of a stupid Guardians Themed ride in EPCOT... which is the stupidest concept ever, we have the ride be centered around the Big Bang in a more educational way.
The queue could be an observatory for scientists studying space and using technology to learn about the past. So through the queue you get information about the big bang. And then when you finally ride the ride, you get to see the big bang happening right in front of your eyes. You can keep literally everything about the ride the same: same track, show building, and props and use it to educate in an extremely entertaining way like EPCOT was designed for post Walt's death.
It's so simple but they're so desperate to make it an IP they missed the perfect EPCOT ride right under their nose.

I’m sad to see dinosaurs as a whole concept leaving animal kingdom. Now 2/3 of the original pitch of animal kingdom has been scrapped. It was supposed to be focused on ANIMALS alive today, extinct, and imaginary (beastly kingdom, although you could argue that’s what Pandora is now)
Now it feels more like animal kingdom is based on geographical continents and IPs in those locations rather than the animals themselves. I wonder if any new live animal exhibits will be included to showcase South American animals. I would rather have seen an entire dinoland reimagining, but I understand why they’re going in the direction they are.

Yea I get the chance but I’m disappointed that all the attractions will be IP based and likely lose dinosaurs. My wish was always to turn it into South America to go along with Africa and Asia. There are lots of fossils there so they could keep dinosaur and the paleontology aspect of the vineyard but revamp the rest, and then turn dinorama area into Amazon themed with an animal trek and a river ride.

    • @zacg_
      @zacg_ 8 месяцев назад +12

I agree that Disney's exclusive focus on IPs has been bad for the parks. However, I think Indiana Jones can easily be a good platform to introduce animals and animal exhibits. This area is going to be focused on South America which is a region we've seen Indie go several times. They can easily incorporate animals such as spider monkeys, jaguars, crocodiles and caimans (in fact the only true animal exhibit in Dinoland is an American Crocodile), capybaras, and a host of other animals that would fit both in DAK and with an Indiana Jones theme. Plus they would absolutely need to feature SNAKES!!! I mean that is a given.
The African and Asian areas are both animal focused AND focused on human culture and it works very well. If they approach South America in a similar way but add in Indiana Jones exploring the area on some quest while encountering the local flora and fauna ;) then it would work quite well in my opinion.

I believe that Disney noticed the enormous reaction to the "villains land" reveal and relocated encanto to make more space for it. I also believe the Zootopia attraction was changed to be less themed around police. The original attraction looked a lot like the police chase ride coming to shanghai and the new tree of life show seems much less conflict oriented and the promo image didn't show Judy in her police attire.
I'm also curious if this Indiana Jones ride will actually be entirely different and incorporate animals somehow, even Dinosaurs. It calls to mind the first level of the OG tomb raider game where an ancient temple gives way to an isolated cave system with still living dinosaurs. I'd really like to see a new concept instead of a direct copy.

Imma say this as a massive Indy fan, who really wishes we (WDW) could have the temple ride over here, I don’t think Indy is a good fit for Animal Kingdom. Don’t even get me started on Encanto. Zootopia I don’t think is a very good fit either, but it does kinda, sorta, not really, make sense.
The Test Track retheme I’m willing to give a shot because apparently they’ll reference World of Motion, which would be cool, and in my eyes, they should change out that weird digital Tron thing they’re going for with 2.0.
Other announcements either made me roll my eyes, like the Country Bear rework, or just got no reaction from me at all. It also felt like a lot of the presentation was just fluff from D’Amaro and the Muppets, which even tho I’m not a Muppet enthusiast myself, I feel bad for the Muppets fans that pretty much got nothing in the end. genuinely so exciting to hear that the test track retheme is so clearly inspired by an old school part of disney theme parks, rather than just a few nods and easter eggs. gives me a bit of hope that we might see more investment in what makes the parks the parks, rather than just trying to slot in whichever ip is trendy (which in turn can cause issues, since these big projects take YEARS to make). obviously folks who love the old school theme parks make up only a small part of the total audience disney is looking to draw in, but i think there's something very valuable to finding something that is more inherently evergreen without the need for a movie tie-in.

Regardless if 20,000 Leagues should be the Tokyo version or the old submarine ride we used to have in the states, it still thematically makes sense, since it can cover the creatures of the ocean. Meanwhile with Journey to the Center of the Earth, it could still fit the Animal Kingdom by replacing the lava monster with dinosaurs, and maybe be about the evolution of animals by having the creature we encounter vastly different than what dinosaurs we usually see. It still makes more sense than the Madrigal house, which worked much better in the Magic Kingdom, since the house had, well, magic

It lacks fantastical immersion by simply representing what already exists (usually, for much cheaper - outside of the thousands of dollars necessary for a Disney World trip). The crowds get drawn in by being pulled in to *another world*, take the success of the Wizarding World (Universal), Cars Land (Disneyland CA), Galaxy's Edge, and the World of Avatar. It's Disney's Imagineering bread and butter, and where the parks are at their strongest in terms of the Magic™.
Now, I don't agree with the plan that Disney went with over at California Adventure to retheme Paradise Pier to Pixar Pier. It ended up lacking significant immersion ("Pixar" is too broad, ends up unfocused), while it did succeed in making the land less "generic boardwalk". I would've much preferred one of the blue sky concepts to transform it into a Victorian-era atmosphere through and through.
It would've worked much better, in my opinion, to provide significant immersion into "another time and place", in keeping with how California Adventure sets itself up with Buena Vista Street as a look back at California's "golden era" of the arts, from when Walt Disney first arrived in it. Not only that, but Disney magic imbued into a Victorian boardwalk is simply not an experience you can get elsewhere.
So the question with Dinoland becomes - "what is an experience this area can provide that a guest cannot get elsewhere?" because a local carnival can be obtained in a thousand other places.

@@RxYouth I wouldn't go that far. While I'm sure there are plenty of great rides that got replaced by 2015 such as The original Journey Into Imagination and many like it, you are asking for no Journey Into Imagination in the first place. No EPCOT, Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom, and no Hollywood Studios/MGM. That is overall asking for less, I would never want that. 2015 is probably where I would say Disney peaked in popularity and quality. Now that doesn't mean every idea was great or done with artistic desire as opposed to just wanting money. But many of the good rides were still in tact. The environment was still fun and light. The parks had sufficient employees. The Magic Bands were implemented (one of my favorite updates in recent years). And you weren't required to go on your phone all the time. Overall it was a great time for Disney even though they were slowly going down the path we are trying get off of now.
1955 is too far back and one could argue 2015 is too far into their downfall. But either way I think we can all agree at least out of the three of us, the parks need a big change

Dinosaur -> Indy would be a great retheme, transforming Dinoland from a tourist trap into the actual explorable archaeological dig (which was already the other half of Dinoland) where they can still have dinosaur skeletons and a playground to keep the "animal" theme but also blend with Indiana Jones. Honestly don't think that Disney wants any thing big to open in 2025. I think they have something up there sleeve for after Epic opens. They are going to want that BIG BANG to draw the crowds back to them from Universal. If it works all depends on the out come of what epic really does. Its deff a wonderful time to cover the parks and to be a huge theme park fan. We are fans of both Disney and Universal, so reality is... yes we are hyped for Epic, but also hyped for the low crowds at Disney during this time. Let the good times roll!

Encanto does make sense in Animal Kingdom more so than Avatar. You enter the Casita and thru Antonio’s door you enter a trail like Gorilla Falls with South American animals. You enter Isabela’s door and you have a living with the land like attraction with the flora of South America. So it could fit.

I see absolutely no way as to how Encanto could work, other than the very small minor character with the gift. Encanto is a very human story, has next to nothing to do with animals, and would just be very poor IP implementation imo. At least Avatar had a fictional world interesting enough with its creatures.
A South America land literally does not need any IP, a simple Amazon river ride, canoe ride, or other things with no IP can work just as well. I do still respect your opinion, but just, just no…

The Test Track retheme is a big win, and Tropical Americas is a big improvement over both the previous idea and Dinoland, though it does still feel like they're limiting their own creativity with the IP mandate. But my biggest takeaway from this year is that Disney really doesn't have anything significant lined up to compete with Epic Universe. I don't know if that's because they think they're untouchable, they don't have the money because the parks money is being sucked up by the financial issues elsewhere in the company, or some mix or both. But whatever it is, this was pretty much the last year for them to announce something and have it open by 2025, unless they're holding something back, so yeah, Disney isn't prepared. Epic Universe is gonna be a hit in 2025 and they're just gonna let it come and sweep up more of their marketshare.

I’m very happy about test track retheme!! I desperately miss test track 1.0 every day and honestly I think anything would be better than 2.0, but the fact that they’re looking into referencing world of motion makes me happy. Disney seems to be hyper aware that fans have nostalgia for old epcot (for better or for worse, who knows) so I’m curious to see what 3.0 will entail.
country bears made me REALLY happy, I’m so glad that that attraction is getting a refresh with new animatronics, I was really worried we would lose them. I know people are worried about “under new management” vibes but the way I see it, it’s so much easier to re-record audio than to retheme something, so in the future maybe they can go back to classic country bears. Those bears needed some love and I’m so glad to hear it
I’m tentatively excited for Indy, dinosaur is one of my most favorite rides and I will be sad to see it go (dr. seekers campy lines during the ride are truly what make it for me) but Indy is objectively better as a ride experience and dinosaur is in dire need of a refresh. I’m aware that he doesn’t fit the theme of the park but I feel like Disney has unfortunately long stopped caring about that, look at hollywood studios… anyway Indy is the best, easiest, and (hopefully, although we all know how Disney is) quickest update for that ride.
Wish they didn’t talk so much about the international parks, I mean I would love to travel to them but the domestic parks are truly where a lot of our hearts are

Current Test Track is still doing ok but I think the interactive technology is kinda starting to show its age but if they can make it better than I'm down for this update. BUT IF THEY TOUCH THE SEMI TRUCK I'M GONNA GET ANGRY!🤨
Love the Pirate's Tavern concept but obviously the big takeaway.............THE BARKER PARROT IS RETURNING!!!
Finally World Celebration will be wrapping up and I can't wait to see the Walt Disney statue at Dreamer's Point.

pretty much every disney park has lost its personal identity these days and it is sad to see. Indiana Jones has absolutely zero business being located in Animal Kingdom. It used to be that rides had to fit in the overall theme of the parks they're in, but that has all but been thrown out of the window. Why is there a Marvel ride sitting in the middle of Epcot? How in the world is there a whole Star Wars land in the OG Disneyland? What is Moana doing in Epcot Future World? None of it makes any sense at this point and every park has more or less lost its identity in some parts. The problem is shoving IP into every. single. new. attraction. That is the biggest issue with Disney parks at this point. I really wish some of these bigger Disney parks-based channels on here would actually speak up and call Disney out on their dumb moves, but unfortunately most of them will never question anything Disney does. Disney can do no wrong in the eyes of most of these types of channels and that is only going to serve to make the problem bigger. Every park has just been turned into cheap IP dumps where any ride can go in any park, regardless of if it makes any sense to begin with. It needs to be called out because it is only going to get worse.

If the Hatbox Ghost diarama will take up that whole area, to the left of the Endless Hallway, doubt if the face/duck chair will completely disappear. It is one of those original items, going way back to the Museum of the Weird. Since it’s not animated, it could easily fit in the Attic? Or squeeze it into the Library? Or wherever?

I think Encanto makes sense in Animal Kingdom bc Antonio can be the main character. It surprisingly makes more sense than Zootopia

I think the most interesting thing about the presentation was Test Track. Absolutely love that ride and I’m happy seeing it get a fresh coat of paint. Everything else was fine. I wish we got a little bit more concrete announcements instead of the blue sky stuff because it does get a tad annoying seeing the plans change from one presentation to the next. However, we also get to see some cool concept art that we would normally not see so that’s a plus for Disney. Also I do feel like we’re pretty darn close to an official announcement as I would think Disney would want something to at least officially be there to combat Epic Universe (even if it takes another 5 years for it to open). If not this part could be just being like “hey Universals got stuff coming, well we got stuff coming too”. Thing that caught my eye the most was the muppets. Kinda theorizing, but I feel like we could be close to getting something muppets related. It’s no coincidence that we’ve been getting the restaurants in the park plus the Disney Plus series, so maybe this could lead to something. Especially considering they were on stage, that could definitely be a tease, maybe testing how fans like the brand. Or it could just be filler and in that case I’d be sad because Muppets content in the park would be great. So overall decent enough considering the scale. I don’t think we’re going to get anything huge until next year.

When World of Motion became Test Track I was disappointed and thought they should still focus on the History of Transportation while making it a thrill ride. I was glad they updated it to make it look more futuristic. I hope they don't disappoint and make it better. I am disappointed they aren't upgrading Spaceship Earth, yet. But your explanation is satisfying.

What if the new Indiana ride used the dial of destiny in some crazy retcon way to keep the dinosaur time travel aspect of the ride? Idk maybe that wouldn’t really work he’s an archeologist not a paleontologist.

Talking about Animal Kingdom, don’t you think that over the last 17 years since Expedition Everest opened that the technology and stronger, lighter, and flexible materials have been created so they could (potentially) competently replace Disco Yeti with a significantly lighter (in weight) stronger version

Jungle Cruise is in desperate need of some fun-maxxing. They need to engineer a drop or two, some new animatronic dad jokes, etc.

Another reason for Test Track’s rehab is because General Motors’ marketing has shifted towards production of election vehicles. As soon as I saw the GM logo change in early 2021, I knew that a rehab was soon to follow. Plus, CEO Mary Barra is on the Disney board.

One major reason for delay in certain announcements is new Reedy Creek government. They can no longer guarantee fast track of applications.

I thought it was interesting that they said the Magic Kingdom expansion was about to be going into "Overdrive". I wonder if this was a subtle hint about radiator springs coming to the area behind Big Thunder. The rockwork would definitely blend in and add to the area. With the move of Encanto over to Animal Kingdom, I think this would be a logical option. I haven't seen anybody mention this theory yet. I would love to know your thoughts.

The main question I have is not if but WHEN the original Dinoland USA will be closed for construction. I’m going to Disney World late January next year and I don’t wanna miss out on Dinosaur. Last time I went to Disney was 20 years ago and I never got to go on, despite my absolute love for dinosaurs.

What is the background music playing in the background in the first few minutes of the video? I have been looking for that song for years.

Make no mistake. The reason Spaceship Earths referbishment/redesign has not happened and is not slated too at the moment exclusively because it's money Disney doesn't want to spend now. If they had a sponsor for Spaceship earth just like Test Track.
