The irony of the hatbox ghost possibly being used for parts of Sam Eagle and then Sam Eagle's head winds up in a box... that's got to be some type of intentional hint, right?
I was thinking the exact same thing!
Dark Disney humour lol
There was another video on RUclips that I watched that may explain The disappearance of the original Hatbox Ghost. You could see a silhouette that matched his form holding his hatbox behind a heavily frosted window above head level in another ride. I think there may be some truth behind the workings of the original being cannibalized for other animatronics, but I believe what remains is still in the park.
@@benullom2301 What other ride? What is the video link please?
@@mhcollectors13 I was trying to find it, but it escapes me. I watched it a while back, I just know it's in the queue line for one of the rides. I don't think the video was specifically about the Haunted Mansion. If I stumble across it again, I'll post a link here.
The number one mystery is why they thought it was a good idea to get rid of the peoplemover
Zakary Palacios You mean the one in CA right?!
They have not run the People Mover in FL and it’s making me nervous...😖
Hessed3712 I love the people mover and hope nothing is wrong with it to
@@Hessed3712 yes the one in Cali is the one that I was talking about, but now I'm worried that they might get rid of the one in WDW
I wish I could like this twice
Zakary Palacios Stitch’s Great Escape has been gone for a year. And just because Primeval Whirl & Rivers of Light are closed during COVID doesn’t mean they’re gone forever.
That image of the Snow White mannequin feels more like creepypasta fodder, than a legitimate addition to the ride.
same i feel like it was just an edited photo.
It wasn’t, it’s just the lighting that makes it creepy, but I do agree with you. All it was is that some cast member put it in there to satisfy guests before the actual refurbishment came. The mannequin is most likely thrown in the trash, like, I’m 99.9% sure.
She looks like she's Force-choking someone.
Talking about the girl from Carousel of Progress, it reminded me of when I was getting trained in Tomorrowland. Our trainer took us on Carousel to watch & then joked that it was someone kidnapped from It’s a Small World & forced to work.
Given the time period it could have easily been a child trafficked for domestic labor from Ireland, Italy, etc.
Not wanting to be cited for violating “child labor law”, Disney quietly got rid of that girl who was helping Sarah.
Lol , Perhaps!.
You're very close. If I'm not mistaken, the girl was an Irish Immigrant (notice the red hair). Sadly, she would have worked for the wealthy family as young as age 5.
@@kristaclark447 sadly? Shes gainfully employed, not sad to me
@@jordanhicks5131 I mean, you're not totally wrong...
@@kristaclark447 Guess she was the scullery maid
Regarding the hat box ghost: I saw the hat box itself in a walk through exhibit of Disney artifacts in San Francisco about 23 years ago. The fact that it was separated from the body makes me thing the original animatronic was repurposed. However, the box itself was really cool!
Dr. Kessler well I don’t have any pictures or anything but I vividly remember it. I was 12...
Was the head still in the box? I mean it wasn’t animated sooooooo 🤷🏼♀️
I can never look at America sings without remembering the story of poor Debbie stone 😰 wonderfully done video tho!
I can’t look at the Matterhorn without thinking about “Dolly’s drop”
Reminds me of the time this one woman decided to leave CoP. She left the front row, and by the time she was on the ramp opposite of the cast member, I remember yelling “No! Don’t!” She tried super hard to pry the door open, but it only opened up about 6 or so inches. You could see the exterior wall through the crack as we spun. If she were crazy and stupid enough, she could have gotten her hand or foot stuck in there. It took several seconds before the ride could be stopped. That’s just enough time for something tragic. I don’t think the exterior side would break away like the Debbie walls in the interior now could. We ended up seeing the 30s 3 times, and the rest of the ride was out of sync the entire time as a result.
@@UmmYeahOk Hey, what's CoP? I can't figure it out. Only been to Disney World once a long time ago so I'm not too familiar with everything.
@@UmmYeahOk Omg it's Carousel of Progress. It's right in the damn video. I'm so dumb. Never mind!
KG Martin it’s ok. If it was “once a long time ago,” it might’ve been during that dark period when it was seasonal. That’s right. When attractions go seasonal, people freak out, and act like that’s the end, it’s closing for good, but then I remind them of CoP. Because of CoP’s successful return, we can have hope for everything else.
Best intro ever! This is why we come to offhand Disney.
No worst intro ever tpmvids has the best intro!
@BartTheGamer Plays they’re completely different styles. I’d say I prefer offhand Disney’s, but TPMvids is still good.
TPM is the best
Tpm is the one and only disney king and his intro is a little better but I do like offhand disney so I am not trying to spread any hate
This is wh we come to offhand Disney.
the snow white mannequin kind of looks like britney spears
I WAS LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO AGREED WITH ME. YESSSS
omg what if britney spears was just in the ride
HSKAJSAKKSDHIAK OH MY GOD YOURE RIGHT IM CACKLING
Oops she ate the apple again
Or Britney Spears looks like a mannequin
"Something strange" in your neighborhood, who ya gonna call? *Lafittebusters*
You're everywhere
rinoz47 ITS NOT JUST ME
THANK GOD
for the past 3 years I’ve seen Avery everywhere
Jabberjaw when there’s offhand disney, there’s avery :)
@_yourlocalmess_ I’ve deduced that she’s a fan of LEGO and Disney. So uh... yeah.
@@christianweber7435 Is it a she because I knew a set of twins(one male one female) that were both named Avery
I like how he calls it a "sort of creepy Snow White mannequin"
it's absolute full on nightmare fuel, so uncanny valley
Yes! For whatever reason, the Snow White mannequin and (especially) the old Alice in Wonderland one really freak me out. Store mannequins don't bother me, I think it's just that these are in dark environs and that their current locations are unknown that just... spook me.
One person theorized that the Snow White mannequin might have looked more real on the actual ride with specific lighting.
Ok just a theory but, the girl with the wheel washer looks just like molly, the American girl doll. She got fed up with washing all those clothes and ran away to american girl doll co.
I'm not really involved in this ride/show or whatever it is but to me, the answer is clear. This looks like rock solid, classic child labour.
There’s also a photo of a mysterious Alice mannequin in her ride before the 1983 refurb. I can’t seem to find the photo though unfortunately.
Maybe they added both mannequins at the same time, realized they weren’t up to quality, and removed them quietly before the refurbs
i think i found the picture you were looking for, but i don't think it was before the '83 refurb. if you scroll down, you'll find a picture of an alice figure. also, i have to add that the figure you saw might have been from the mickey mouse revue in wdw, but anyways here's the link, and you can tell me if it's the pic or not davelandblog.blogspot.com/2014/01/through-years-alice-in-wonderland.html
bootycakes that’s definitely it thanks. The Mickey Mouse Revue theory works as they’re definitely older looking figures than the ones normally found in the rides.
Maybe we should get that detective from Roger Rabbit to help.
I remember seeing the Alice mannequin, unlike the snow white one everyone knew about it which is why it probably wasn't a mystery. The mannequin was located in the flower scene right across from the caterpillar, in fact you can still see the pedestal where the mannequin stood today. I still remember that Alice mannequin while riding the ride........
Offhand disney: After all that's just a theory
My Head: A Disney Theory
Thanks for watching!
(MatPat voice) aaaaaaAAAAND See ya real soon!
AAAAAAAAAAAAND CUT
Day 1 of reminding offhand Disney to stay hydrated
That Snow White Mannequin picture is 100% cursed.
It spooks me a lot lol
and it’s 12:31 AM. made me turn some lights on loll
I didn’t really think the OG Hatbox was an animatronic- just a static figure with the simple lighting effect. They probably got rid of the body and kept the head to reuse for one of the other ghosts/moldings
That Snow-white mannequin looks a lot like the Snow-white at the end of the Snow-white ride at DisneyLand Paris
The Carousel of Progress is my favorite thing at Disney! I've always wondered about her. I have a couple theories. If the people mover is correct "4 families invite you into their homes" that means this isnt the same family but 4 different families so one family had another daughter. Or the most probable theory, if it's the same family in different eras, the little girl was alive during the turn of the century. This means she had a high change if dying young. Another, less morbid, theory I had was maybe it's a friends daughter and the mother is just babysitting.
I thought that too; the extra kid...Victorian families had lots of kids but many died due to "progress". Everything was dangerous...filled with arsenic and lead.
While researching my ancestors, the number of death certificates for babies and kids between 1880-1940 was depressing. I prefer the babysitting option for this girl. Maybe she gets a penny for helping out.
@bigevilworldwide1 it's the same family that's a little weird because I remember there being an African American family at one point
The intro should say “best Disney channel on RUclips” honestly lol
*best channel on RUclips*
Worst Disney channel on RUclips the best is Tpmvids
@@bartplays3392 thats not very nice
@@bartplays3392 then why are you here?
BartTheGamer Plays i love TPM vids, they have very informational and funny videos.
Another unsolved mystery about the Haunted Mansion is that of the screaming man in the spider web. It's claimed by some that, for the first few weeks or months of the Magic Kingdom (Liberty Square) Haunted Mansion, there was a screaming man or skeleton in the spider web just before you ascended to the ballroom scene (now the multi-dimension staircase room). Supposedly the staff thought it was too gruesome and quickly had it removed. (here's a link to the complete story)
themeparkuniversity.com/disney/disneys-haunted-mansion-man-spiderweb-real-hoax/
dude... the ride was scary enough already i see why they must've removed it from the ride lol
Reminds me of the intro to Birdman where he falls in the spider web and shoots the spider with his solar beam. Was never into the Haunted Mansion.
I believe a cast member said that they removed the man in the web because they thought it looked too silly. They actually kept the figure around under the doombuggy tracks and cast members used it to scare each other
@@tylermannor4290 Yeah, I've heard that story too.
Number one mystery is who thought Stich’s Great Escape was a good idea.
Eisner
Sarah C. Of course he did
I thought it was neat however I’d rather to the alien version and see how scared I can get
PREACH MY DUDE PREACH
@@GreyM900 lol it was pretty terrifying. I never went on it but my dad and I would sit in the gift shop that the ride let off into ( I think it was called Venus at the time) and watch all the riders come off. They all had huge eyes and looked horrified haha
Honestly, I'm not convinced that snow white mannequin ever was in the ride, or at Disney. The simple looking mannequin and the cheap looking costume are off putting to me. Her left arm sleeve seems to have a tear in it, and with the amount of upkeep Disney has always done I doubt that would go unnoticed for long. That also brings up the question of how it got ripped in the first place. Unless they rigged a normal mannequin to move, then the only other way it could've happened would be if someone physically ripped it. I'm aware many used to grab stuff while on the snow white ride, but this would be incredibly difficult to pull off without completely destroying the plastic thing.
My personal guess is that it was some cheap attraction in the middle of nowhere that decided to rip off the character look.
The origin of the photo supposedly came from somebody who said it was amongst a bunch of other photos that were definitely from Disneyland, but.... yeah anyone can say anything.
As for the cheapness of the mannequin, and the tear in that sleeve, one website speculated that the figure might have looked "better" on the actual ride with specific lighting, and if the mannequin was far enough away from the track.
On the other hand the very same website also pointed out that there really isn't any appropriate spot for this mannequin on the original ride layout. It could have been placed in the spot with the forest animals, except there's no forest animals in that photo, and looks dark, so... the dark forest? But why put a mannequin of Snow White with a deadpan expression in a scene that's supposed to be scary?
The Snow White mannequin was a close lookalike to the Snow White animatronic from WDW's Mickey Mouse Revue, the main difference being that it was a static figure with no movement. And that's not a tear in the left sleeve you're seeing; only one of the frills viewed at an angle that makes it look very square.
The blue blacklight fixture visible in the photo is a clear indicator that the picture was in fact taken inside Disneyland's Snow White ride. There is simply no chance that any sort of second-rate knockoff dark ride in 1972 could have possibly contained not only scenery of that quality, but also such a startlingly accurate re-creation of a Disney animatronic that debuted only a year prior.
As for the location of the mannequin, it would have been semi-obscured behind a flat tree to the left side of the mural of the Dwarfs' cottage, just beyond the forest vignette with all the animals peering out.
the fact i have never heard of these. and i LOVE looking into disney theories.
I have a feeling the "washer girl" might be a remnant from the New York World's Fair, with any dialogue about her or featuring her was removed even though she herself stayed, causing mass confusion in later years because the context about her was lost.
This is a certified Walter moment
🤣
no one:
the girl:
*"DON'T MIND ME JUST EARNIN' SOME MONEY FOR COHRN MEAL FOR MY FAMILY"*
The little girl in the Carousel of Progress was their second daughter who tragically died from the 1918 Spanish Flu. She was never spoken of again due to the horrible sadness and shame of the family.
Would love if this video turned into a series!
On another note, I think that within the HM community, the consensus on the Hatbox Ghost is that one of his original heads is still in the ride at Disneyland (final pop up head in the graveyard before HHG). Hattie's face is built from a common mold seen throughout the HM, so his two heads on HBG wouldn't have been of particular note (Hattie and Ezra are the same mold!). Video and schematics of Hattie himself show that he wasn't much of an animatronic, so there wasn't much of his body (literal wires and plastic) worth "saving." The rest of him I'm of course not sure about! :)
The picture of snow white was taken so it would stop moving around the ride at night
"Who is she? Is she their second daughter who tragically passed away and never made it past the year 1900?" LOL
She died in a freak laundry accident.
When he started the detective voice I said “Oh no, It’s another Buzzy video” after watching the video I said “ Oh I am so glad it was another Buzzy video!”
*new offhand video*
me: instantly likes it
The mystery I'm still trying to solve is: what happened to the alien from Alien encounter at Disney world.
Yes! Thank you for bringing that up!
Rumor is that it ended up on a ride in Tokyo. I forget which one or if its even in Tokyo but there is a ride in one of the Asia parks with an anamotronic with a similar looking alien
@@kylebittner1327 that would be the lava monster in Journey to the Center of the Earth at Disney Tokyo Sea! It's not actually the animatronic though but it does look a lot like it!
OOH....
S.I.R. got repurposed to be eujdakkfjfifiej-90210 from Stitch's Great Escape, or as I like to call him, "TOM 1 as a grown-up."
I've been binging your videos for the last 3 days and as you can imagine I was excited to click this notification. PLEASE NEVER STOP MAKING THESE.
I was so sad when I could not go to Disney World this year
I think it is obvious about the girl in Carousel of Progress, she is an orphan adopted by the family to do all their chores. Eventually, she escaped their clutches thanks to the help of her imaginary/invisible dragon and a friendly lighthouse keeper. Eventually, Disney would make a movie about her story, but make her a boy to protect her identity.
We should rename this video “3 unsolved ANIMATRONIC mysteries”
The girl in carousel of progress is the younger version of the mother. The girl standing next to Johns wife is Johns wife but when she was younger. I think this because it shows that this woman just never stopped working/cleaning. It also could show how far cleaning has come. This is just a theory but possibly a good one. Thoughts?
“the kind of day that would chew you up and spit you out like a wad of gum” like same
I've been on "Carousel of Progress" every time I went to Disney World (so about 15 times since 2005) and I've never noticed the little girl before.
on the third mystery: There was a rumor that because of that animatronic girl that only appeared once......was because it's a ghost. Now, hear me out. I heard that when a cast member or staff or even guest, got suck in between the carol of progress when the stages were turning. And got crushed to death. So.....that being said they also say, that's the ghost of that cast member or guest. Always stuck. Yes, ppl did find her body and removed it. But the ghost of that cast member or guest will always remain in the Carasol Of Progress. as that animatronic girl
No one died on carousel of progress died, that girl who got crushed was on America sings
@@averynoelle7154 but it was the same stage/ride system. Diff ride themes, same ride mechanics. So I can see it being possibly true that poor Debbie haunts the attraction, that her soul is attached to that attractive forever.
No it was definitely an animatronic lol it was there when I saw the show in ‘98 and a couple years later as well. I always just assumed it was supposed to be a neighborhood girl helping her as would have been accurate for the time period.
Who else loves offhand Disney?
I think we all do
Themanbehindtheslaughter lol ikr, he should be CEO
Here is another mystery. What happened to Old Bill's other cat? When he was added to Pirates Of The Caribbean at Disneyland in the early 1970's I distinctly recall a third cat on the create to the right of the scene. Bill even looks that way and talks to the now empty spot during his speal. Anyone else remember this cat? I can not find any photos online showing it, only the two cats currently in the scene.
I love watching the unsolved mysteries so much I love them so much and you I’ve seen all your videos
The effort in the intro just made me SLAM that subscribe button. THATS HOW EFFORT I LOVE
These are all so good and really creative. Excellent job
i just watched your review of mr toad’s wild ride and i would love more ride reviews!! especially as someone who has never been to disneyland (only disney world)
I always love your videos!!! I watch them all the time!!! Keep up the good work!!!
Bravo! Amazing! If this series is 45 videos long I will watch every single one very thoroughly. Thank you for this.
You and your content make me so happy 😊 Thank you!
The intro is everything!!!!!! Offhand Disney special touch makes everything better
I loved the framing of this video. I was not expecting it when I clicked on the video. And thank you for tackling some of the lesser known Disney Mysteries. It was interesting to see them brought up.
This is the best vid yet!! Can’t wait for part 2! Good job OH
Great job, Keep up the great work!
The girl tragically died in the Influenza epidemic after WWI. Thankfully that doesn't happen these days.
I miss the Carousel of progress , I remember it came back when i was a kid. I remember riding it one time when i was about 8 years old and then they canceled he ride again after that. This was back in like 2005 2006.
i love the noir detective theme going on here and i'm happy to see kermit back but.... A CLIFFHANGER
I was so sad in Orlando the day I found out the carousel progress was closed forever that they weren't going to redo it again.
I always thought that the different families in carousel of progress were just that, different families, which could explain away the mysterious second daughter right away. If we had to find a deeper explanation beyond that, maybe the daughter dissapearing represents that families had less kids after the turn of the century
@Dr. Kessler you are the first person who has ever mentioned my profile picture and also actually got where it was from. Good job, ten points to ravenclaw.
That narration is beautiful this should be a full movie
You are my absolute favorite Disney history channel!
this video was amazing! one of my favorites
“Ever been one the haunted mansion at Disneyland?”
Nope, never been to Disney anything.....only the Disney store lol
Best intro and outro nice one off hand Disney i love you
Wish you did more videos !!!! This was great !!!! Awesome job kid !
Gosh! I own a copy of "Disneyland: a Nickel Tour"! Does this mean I could sell it for nine hundred bucks?
Shut up and take my money! *waving a handful of bills*
I think that girl is in fact THE HATBOX GHOST! in her corruptible moral form.
The intro had me DYING!!! 😂
Please do another Haunted Mansion theory video!!!
I binge wacthed like 50 70 of your videos recently
The number 1 mystery how you ain’t CEO of Disney?
When I need quality entertaining Disney content, offhand Disney is my go to 😌✨
Dallin making us add a new Muppet show to Disney+ via Kermit changed the course of his life forever
That intro was better than anything on Netflix, ever.
I’m almost certain that the Snow White is the one that is now at Disneyland Paris in the themed ride. She looks INCREDIBLY dated, not very Disney, especially compared to her prince!
Done well!!! Loved the old "film noire" style!!!! Felt like I was watching an old Private Eye movie!!!
Good luck on your investigation
Loved the style
I think the disappearing girl in carousel of progress represents decreasing family sizes through history
That was adorable! Well done!
Loved the video and the way it was presented. I hope to one day meet you but I go to WDW and not DLand. Hopefully one day we will all be able to enjoy our beloved parks again
This is so extra and I’m here for it
Not sure if this is weird to say, but listening to your videos and all these fun facts and history bits makes me feel a little more like I'm at my happy place. Disneyland, like many, holds a very special spot in my heart and a second home...((seriously, I was shelling $80/m out of my already small paycheck to keep going)) I find comfort in your videos and makes the Disney ache hurt a little less. Thank you for doing what you do!
NEVER HAVE I CLICKED SO FAST!!! Hi weird world of early comments!
Your hat in the beginning is everything
Since we got a Jungle Cruise movie, can we get a Carousel of Progress movie?
omg most. underrated comment. EVER
You're all we got, and we thank you for it
What an intro lol! That was awesome!
i would pay money to watch offhand disney and andrew barth feldman geek out about disney together and try to solve conspiracy theories about the parks
the intro and outro is exquisite. I also like how we’re dealing who the girl is from COP who is only present for like 30 seconds lol we need true ANSWERS
The pastiche intro was fantastic!
I'd say the biggest mystery is "Why does Disney allow Imagineers that are bad at math?" (leading to Expedition Everest's Disco Yeti and Meet the World being scrapped from Epcot)
I like how the missing Snow White statue is pointing at you like Robert Stack saying Only You Can Solve Unsolved Mysteries!
that Snow White ride used to look very very scary I remember I never wanted to go on that one cause I always got this weird feeling inside, that something was just not right in there.
Loved this. Well done. Kind of creepy. Interesting.
I love your vids!
Love these
In the original carousel of progress the mystery little girl was in the 1940s scene too
More of these !!!
