This is the best cricket I ever saw. Imran, Zaheer, Iqbal and Mushy. I grew up wondering what these games were like. Now I finally saw them. Thank you so much 👌👌👌Kerry Packer changed cricket and started day night with white ball
You prolly dont give a shit but does anybody know a way to get back into an Instagram account..? I somehow forgot my password. I would appreciate any help you can give me
This production came to NZ and played in my town of Tauranga. The Ozzies came to our school. I got taught how to catch by david hookes and rod marsh. Greg chapple was there Dennis lilley. It was pretty awesome esp them talking about the professionalism required at that level. I think Desmond Haynes and defo Richard hadlee was in the world side by that time. The pitch was awful. Marsh described it as the worst he'd ever played on. As schoolkids, we were facing international bowlers, on worse wickets, no helmets, very thin pads and gloves with green rubber spikes as protection. I remember, at 15, facing Richard Collinge off his long looooong run up. Absolutely packing it.
Great entertainment. I was 13 when WSC started in 1977. I cannot recall if it was shown here in England. It would be nice to think that Channel 9 could release DVD's showing each match in it's entirety.
@@krulzy1 How do u know that, if it is⁉️... Did u work for ch 9 or something, who had the rights to televise these WSC-Packer era matches, as Packer owned ch 9⁉️ I've only heard rumors before, that they may had been taped over. Just like the network may had done with the series of the "Paul Hogan Show". Remember that show⁉️ 🤔 PS. A cousin of a mate of mine from my early years at highschool - his father used to work at ch 9 in Willoughby (near Chatswood), being one of the execs told us a couple of times that the tapes off such shows and sporting events may had been taped over, as the library there was getting 'chocka-block' stacked with videos. They were never put on your standard VHS / Beta tapes, but other forms of media.
Note also the field placings - it appears that the teams were still locked in a test match mentality with lots of slips etc. Note also the terrible running by the World XI and the several run outs. They were hesitant to take runs which now would be standard. The use of the white ball was an improvement too. WSC was a great chance to see some amazing players.
I'm glad in hindsight Packer had the guts to do these wsc matches and start at the super test teams first. Or cricket would have been so boring just test matches played
Bob Woolmer, who I saw play regularly for Kent in the late 1970s, was a strange choice for Packer to sign. He wasn't top class as a test batsman and wasn't firmly established at test level when Packer, via Tony Grieg, came calling.
Another ' caught Marsh, bowled Lillee ', if you are into such legends as that. And away from the main record with that one. And, Zaheer Abbas and Tony Greig from the " World 11 " of 1971-1972 versus Australia in this, which Lillee, Marsh, and Greg Chappell, and Doug Walters, were also in for Australia.
Players like Pollock brothers, Eddie Barlow, Proctor, in place of Amiss, Woolmer, Asif Iqbal would have been better. Even Randall would have been a better bet than Woolmer.
Peter Pollock was finished at this time. Vincent Van der Bijl was the number one pace bowler in South Africa along with Procter, backed up by Le Roux and Rice. Barlow was at the end of his days too. Jimmy Cook, Peter Kirsten would have been good additions.
West Indies had a separate team. Three South African players in the World team - Richards, Procter and Le Roux - three of the best ever. These were players contracted to a breakaway professional competition, not representative teams. Though most of the Australian and West Indies Test players signed up.
@@roygbiv6010 Technically they did in the first year of World Series , there are some games when viv and Andy Roberts played for a world team against Australia , in one game in Perth they made over 600
Yes . The first cricket helmets were modified motor bike helmets , introduced during WSC in Australia. Prior to that time nobody wore helmets playing cricket .
Elegant style, glad to see old memories. Zaheer Abbas is our legend.

Gilmour, Walker, Woolmer RIP. Made me cry
David Hookes too.
& Tony Greig
You can add Rod Marsh also
and Derek Underwood
So rare this footage from Packer era.
Look at the camera work what a great coverage I. 80
So Australia was a finest cricket team even in the 70's as well. I believe they were just underrated as West indies was a beast in 70's and 80's
White clothes , white ball, full boundaries , better quality attacks this was the best era of cricket
Minus the motorcycle helmet.
You prolly dont give a shit but does anybody know a way to get back into an Instagram account..?

Greg Chappell said the 2 scores he made in New Zealand were 2 of his best innings ever. Greenest pitch he had ever seen.
18:34. Absolute class stunning from Alan Knott. That thing turned and bounced massively. He made it look so simple. What a keeper!
Yes. Great.

can't . they taped over most of the matches so they're gone forever
I don't think that they were shown in UK other than as news clips.
@ yes it is a fact

First time I saw Evel Knievel play cricket! 😂🏍️🏏
Zaheer was such a classy looking player
Glorious player through the off side in particular.
Thank you very much for uploading this video.
Always liked Zaheer Abbas for me the best batsman i've seen from Pakistan
Definitely Asian Bradman
Great opportunity for Mr zaheer Abbas
2:06 bloke yelling in crowd, "Put some aeroguard on your head, Mr Walker".
Bill Lawry in great form, too.
Thanks for posting this.
Magnificent video, mate. Keep it going.
Thanks mate, more on the way.
Keep it coming
Thanx.. Plz share First Final and oblige

To be fair you couldn't hear anything with a motorbike helmet on
Some of my fave cricketers here hookesy tonyyy greig and marshy
Richie பெனாய்ட்.....The voice of Cricket(கிரிக்கெட்டின் குரல்)💞💕💞💕💞💕💞💕💞💕💞💕💞
The 'World XI' looked liked an England/Pakistan only combined team
SA were used like spice in a food, just a little
Yes they had Majid Khan, Eddie Barlow Garth le roux etc,
Same as modern England XI, then.
Yeah, no Grenidge, Richards, Roberts, Holding, Mike Procter, Graeme Pollock and other major stars in the Packer series?
@@infidelhindu Grendge, Roberts, Holding was in WSC West indies team i the packer series
You have got to love the shirt Richie Benaus is wearing. Those collar wings must be wider than Concorde's !
lillee Thompson Gilmour walker Pascoe massie ausie strong bowling attack
terriffic pace attack
Zaheer is best , my favourite!!!
I'm glad in hindsight Packer had the guts to do these wsc matches and start at the super test teams first.

I find one day and t20 matches boring.
Damn.. highlights missed a towering straight 6 by Imran off Lilee.. Also they didnt show a single delivery bowled by him.
Golden period of Pakistan stars of cricket
Super upload, Costa!
I set myself to bowl like Lenny Pascoe and bat like Douggie Walters and field like Viv Richards......and it all worked for me!!!
Lennie Pascoe what a legend!!!!!!!!!!
Pascoe looked sharp.
Superb timing by Zaheer
imran khan looking dashing with his hair style
great. thx

The first minute looks like Australia vs Storm Troopers
And look at the crowd at 4:56 - looks like a schoolboys game at the local park!

Gilmour is a better bowler at 3/4 of the pace than Mitchell Starc.
Pakistani meant trouble for Woolmer since 1978. RIP Bob
B. Wolmer 💕💕💕💕
What the hell... White ball with white clothes.... 😯😯😯
Notice noone whinging about whiteball and ehite clothes, this was a time for genuine skill
Don't know why Marsh got pissed off at Grieg when he didn't even pick the ball up to throw it. Great keeper but bit of a attitude.
White ball, white dress cool, those umpire will face lots of obstacle..
costa sports , when new video will come of paker supertest 1977_78.
Hit like for IK
Zaheer was a terrific batsman but he got lucky in a few innings
white jerseys and white ball
Helmets look like they are on motorbikes back to the pavilion.
Zaheer abbad wearing a bike helmet.
Oh more batsmen wearing the same shit. What an era 😂😂😂😂
wearing stylish white shirt is classic..
11:28 Tangles
Are the batsmen wearing motorbike crash helmets??
Yes.
Developed by Denis Amiss specially to use at WSC. Customized motorcycle helmets.
Those helmets look like Velo helmets. lol
Weareveryhappytpseethis 1:19
I don't get the venue.
Old Sydney Showground.

The comment about hitting the ball when it came out of walkers hand not good form the spirit of the game was observed then.
Lillee basically bodied Amiss's career.
He had success against everyone BAR the greatest fast bowler of the last 50 years
Miandad used to copy Mushtaq
Are they wearing bike helmets?
World 11 has only pak+england players,no Indian,westindian,newzealand players

Rest of the world lineup lacked bowling badly.
That first one was quite possibly the worst ball I have ever seen anyone get out to.
No coloured clothing back then it probably came in a year or two later
Early 1979.
World Series Cricket ran for 2 seasons, this (1977/78) being the first, coloured clothing was introduced in the second (1978/79)
Mushtaq very clumsy
No West Indies players lol

Yes . The first cricket helmets were modified motor bike helmets , introduced during WSC in Australia. Prior to that time nobody wore helmets playing cricket .
No WI,NZ,IND players in World-11. Only ENG and PAK.
What's your point?
Omg. Fielding was rubbish back in the day
"FIXED MATCH."
Google chor
A world team with no west Indians players at the hight of their rein? Give me a break.
Ian Bynoe there were 3 teams in the series: Aus, WI and World XI. Does that answer your question?
2 years on I woulda deleted my comment Ian
Goou chod
What kind of 'The World' team is this? It was a pathetic game.
Ian Davis, apartheid shill.
Four Kent players in the World XI.
Those helmets must've been very uncomfortable.
