Fascinating to watch...45 years ago... smaller bats, no ropes, fans oblivious to sun damage on the massive SCG hill, kids running onto the field to collect the ball, smaller sightscreens, a formidable WI side, classic retro kit, umpires in dark brown skivvies?... but essentially the same cricket as today...and some of the greatest and most exciting players ever to have played the game.
RIP to the WWOS cricket commentators calling this 1979 B&H WSC match-Richie Benaud (1930-2015), Tony Greig (1946-2012), Tony Cozier (1940-2016), Frank Tyson (1930-2015) & Fred Trueman (1931-2006).
I started following cricket in 1981 but I remember these classic kits from the cricket cards that were sold that season. It looked like Len Pascoe was bowling quick that day. The country has changed so much since those days its unrecognisable.
do you have that 1979 WI vs. Eng match at Sydney when English captain Mike Brearley ordered everyone, including the wicketkeeper at boundary since West Indies needed 3 runs in final ball? It was allowed back then to set such field. Would love to see the footage..
because this is the first season of reunification of the world series players and ACB players and ACB hadn't evolved to coloured kits yet...not until the following season. I liked these kits though.
It was the first series after the World Series Cricket players came back and England refused to wear coloured clothes. Even in their next series (82/83), they wore an all blue kit, rather than the same kit with two colours as Australia and NZ

Lennie Pascoe bowled superbly here. He was a great bowler.

Nice stylish brown coloured jackets for the umpires. Very 1970s

@2:10 - Now that's a true freedom which you will not find in any country.....
@1:14 - We will go for a review...
Vintage classic
if rodney hogg wasn't bowling no balls he was dropping sitters lol
but rod hogg was very effective. got loads of wickets in odi's.
@@kamrankhan-lj1ng good bowler just couldn't bat or field to save himself
@WINFIELD120 so he's one better than Phil Tuffnel.
It was Lennie who bowled the no balls
You’re not supposed to drop them off your own bowling!
I liked the jumpers of both sides, the "whites" left a bit to be desired, but the jumpers were classy.
"FIXED MATCH."
Greg Chappell > Ponting or Smith
WTF
Why they are wearing whites???
