While Richards scored some memorable innings against Australia almost half were against weak attacks when the WI bowling was destroying batting line ups. He had one stellar series against Australia 1979, he averaged 90 something against an attack where Lillee and Thomson were past their best. Every Australian bowling attack he faced ( for that matter Pakistan as well ) had genuine match winning pace as well as spin.
