He was one of the greatest batsmen for sure. Arguably the greatest ever one day batsman. Certainly, no batsman has ever performed better over a six year period in proper one day cricket than Viv Richards during the 1979-85 period of play.

The sad part is during those years West Indies did not explore younger players. When the older folks retired there was a void. Today, the game of cricket is transformed thanks to IPL. The traditional way of thinking is no longer applicable.
I am from the W.I. My Favorite players were Viv, Richie, Winston Benjamin and Malcolm Marshall....Ambrose

are you from antigua lol..but seriously i think back then the windies just thought whoever was gonna replace those champs would be fine..lara was about to come around..holding and garner got replaced by ambrose and combined bishop and patterson..the windies batting lineup became weaker in the 90's though
