  • Gayle wins defamation case against Fairfax media
by Dwight Fraser October 30th, 2017
West Indies cricketer Chris Gayle has won his defamation case against Fairfax Media, which published articles claiming he exposed himself to a female masseuse two years ago.
Gayle and his supporters congratulated each other in court as the jury of four announced their unanimous verdict after deliberating for two hours at Sydney’s King Street court complex.
The star all-rounder sued the company after it published a series of articles claiming he had exposed himself to a woman working “around” the West Indies team in Sydney in 2015.
The woman, team masseuse Leanne Russell, stood by the allegations in her evidence to the court but Gayle insisted it never happened.
It is unclear how much money the cricketer will seek in compensation.
Outside court, Fairfax Media’s lawyer Matthew Collins QC said he was “shocked and disappointed” at the decision.
“It will cost the company a lot of money unless we can reverse it on appeal,” he said.
In a statement, a Fairfax Media spokesperson said the company was “seriously considering its appeal rights” after a failed bid to get the jury discharged on Friday.
“Fairfax Media is concerned with the conduct of the trial,” the spokesperson said.
During the hearing, Ms Russell told the court that Gayle lowered his towel, partially exposing himself , in the changerooms at Sydney’s Drummoyne Oval during a training session in February 2015.
She said she was “very upset” and cried uncontrollably after leaving the room.
Ms Russell said she contacted The Age newspaper last year because she was angered by a live TV interview in which Gayle told a reporter; Don’t blush Baby

The greatest odi innings of all time. Consider the match situation with 9 wickets down. Only a genius like sir Viv, can bat like this . This innings is a timeless classic, and it's now 39 years later, and the last wicket partnership with Holding still stands. 👏 . BRILLIANT AND CANNOT BE MATCH.

I was a 12 year old lad, on a trip to Cromer with mother and father on this day. On the wireless it said the Windies were 9 down, an hour later they said Viv finished on 189. Very special innings from the great man

Ferrari Bugatti Rolls-Royce BMW Mercedes of Batting. Got gifted Amazing Reflexes Phenomenal Awesome Super Duper Mesmerizing skills Animal instincts Arrogance. The Undisputed King of Cricket. The Chewing Gum , the walk the swag, the style the class. Till today and never ever will there be a player who will dominate worlds best fearsome bowlers the way he destroyed murdered them especially the best bowlers of the world who were given great respect and treatment. Playing with modern bats solid protective gears sophisticated protection gadgets refined pitches and then playing without helmets protective gears uncured rough uneven pitches its like earth and sky distance. I have played season cricket myself and I know exactly what it means. No current stars of today and batsmen since cricket began who are breaking records in runs can even dare to do what these players have achieved in those times and years which have passed by. It needs a lot of bravery courage brilliance fearless approach determination and infinite aggression. The only other best example would be Mike Tyson intimidating animal instincts destroying the oppositions causing terror fear in them. No limitations of bouncers and yet walk with that chewing gum , the style the swagger, the arrogance, destroy bowlers all around the world anywhere any location any time..that's my and my fathers favorite Sir Viv Richards . The game changed to the 5th Gear the moment Viv started just walking to the batting crease. it was game on very intimidating for all bowlers and fielders especially the best bowler they had and fielders if they may miss drop his catch ....I am here to destroy you all show me what you have got to the bowlers and opposition. We always prayed that Greenidge or Haynes get out quickly as We enjoyed Viv destroy bowling like T20 about 30-35 years back unbelievable batting hitting cleanly & yet very stylish absolutely brilliant and stunning a treat to watch. If anyone has not seen Viv Richards destroy oppositions and the most feared bowlers of the world then I am very sorry to tell you that you have not seen the best ever possible batting in cricket.
    The
moment Viv came to bat the game changed to fastest gear open challenge
to bowlers I'm going to go after you all especially the best bowler of
the team. fearless aggressive. Remember always when you talk discuss
records compare with protective gears helmets power bats and so on the
latest sophisticated equipment gadgets the limitations of bouncers by
bowlers and without all of the above. No current batsmen will dare to do
what Richards did to play without sophisticated helmets protective
gears on uncovered highly lethal dangerous uneven pitches ,fearless
dangerous very aggressive instincts without helmets protective gears and
no limitations of bouncers Huge difference to play with and without
protective gears and unlimited bouncers short pitched bowling. The game
changed to the topmost gear the moment Viv Richards stepped on to the
ground his entry itself was sufficient, his chewing gum, his swag his
style his walk, taking guard was very intimidating it said to the
opposition I am here now show me what you got and I am here to destroy
you all especially the best bowler of your team nowadays batsmen attack
identity weak bowlers Viv attacked destroyed every teams most fearsome
bowlers. I always wanted Greenidge or Haynes to get out quickly as I
loved to watch Viv enter and murder hammer blast destroy the best
    bowlers of the era

@@swamistyle Yeah. I grew up in the Australian bush and the national broadcasting commission 'ABC' had a monopoly of test cricket broadcasts to rural areas until 1990, even though Kerry Packer's channel 9 had the 5 major cities (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth) as well as the one day series broadcasts everywhere in the country. It was only in the Ashes down under in 1986-87 where the ABC had a camera installed both ends of the ground so that every over was shown from the bowler's end rather than alternating from the batsman's and bowler's end every subsequent over with only one sole camera at each end. Having said that, I like watching the action from the batsman's perspective.

please don't compare the Indian Side with any other foreign team.
Indian team is the only Team in the whole of the world where the Board spends for most of the Players families accompanying them.
compared to Australia or west Indies If they have to come to India for playing their Board spends for the days played(i.e). they give daily allowances + Salary that's all remaining for their Tickets they have to spend from their Pockets.
and If suppose their team wins the Cup and returns home They will be taxed in the Airport itself Not like India. Sachin got a Luxurious Car from Abroad during a Match and he didn't even pay Central excise.he walked Scott free.
when we won the Prudential World cup in the year 1983 against the Mighty west Indies. You thought it was team work....no not at all a few players like Kapildev struggled to get it.
    after winning the world cup
West Indies came to India to play 6 One day internationals and 5 Test matches. not a Single match we won against them.
that was the first time ONLY VIMAL sponsored all the cricketing matches.
