FYI: Ford extended the warranty on 2012-2016 Ford Focus to cover replacement of Transmission Control Module (TCM) to 10 years or 150,000 miles. If your transmission is slipping, contact a dealership and they can run a diagnostic on your TCM and if it is faulty they will replace it for free. Just tell them you want to schedule service for the Customer Satisfaction Program 14M02.

Thanks for this, it worked. I got the shift fork unstuck with break cleaner and flushed the transmission with wd-40 after drilling two holes. After clearing the code and doing this, the car shifts great.
Hello, my brother has a 2013 Ford Focus SE also. Did the procedure and did not even have to wait 15 sec. Once we turned on the vehicle and put it into neutral it showed Transmission ready. Thank You it worked great and the vehicle is running just as before.

@@mejhon6592 Yes it was not wanting to shift gears sometimes when you start it up. Turn it off, do this reset, usually fixes it for a while but then it starts up again later on.

@@hiwa1277the control module (whatever it’s called, cant remember atm) is the problem I think. Basically the computer that tells the car when to shift. Probably why a reset helps. Look into recalls on ford focus and you can see what the common problems are with the make and model. Put in the VIN and can see if they have been fixed in the past and if not, some are free to replace. Call your Ford Dealership for more info after online check

@dwjackson903 when the check engine light went on and did the code reader it was the TCM code. You need that warning for the recall. My appointment isn't till may 3rd but went into Ford in person and they said its covered under manufacturer warranty (recall) , however the part is back ordered for over a year and cars have just sat on the lot

Chad, if you have a focus please look up on youtube "clean ford focus actuators" it solved literally all of my transmission issues. Just in case you run into any more trouble like hitching, hesitation, shifting from 1st to 3rd to 5th, or shifting super hard. This will fix that. Just spreading the word as it only costs what brake cleaner costs.
@@NaviYT oh wait I did this on a 2013 ford escape and it did work for it and yes I do have a terrible hesitation at times it's even dangerous when pulling into traffic I almost have to floor it before it moves and then takes off like a rocket, not the best way to drive. I'm talking about my escape, I just looked for the video on the actuator for the focus I take it they're the same for both vehicles and I couldn't find it could you please clarify what I would do or look up. For the escape that is.

thanks for posting this comment! That's really good advice. I'm going to try to spread the word about these actuators. Cleaning them fixed what ford quoted me $1500 for. (quoted me new forks, and the works) all it needed was a good cleaning
@@prueensgloria4743 It can return but that's cause the original issue is the clutch kicking up too much dust. In turn, everything gets gunked up inside. It's worth doing no doubt. If you don't eventually do it. Your clutch will get stuck and you'll end up either breaking a fork or burning out an actuator completely.
This didn't work in my 2013 UK ford focus after a battery drain. The car was stuck in limp mode. However, a neighbour dropped off an Autel MS309 data reader. I scanned for errors and they were none but I still pressed clear errors and now I can go through the gears smoothly with normal changes. Hope this helps people because this just saved me a trip to the garage.
First off, thank you for this tip. Fixes my issue but Just a heads up: I’ve found that you only have to do the first 3 steps and that’ll do it. At least for me, after putting car to N after turning key the message pops up 🤷🏽♂️

Same I have a 2014 focus SE and all the sudden the check engine light came on and wouldn't go into reverse and would have a hard time going into first. We did this today and the engine light went off and drove perfectly.

Hey everyone, to piggy back off Charles here. If you have a focus please look up on youtube "clean ford focus actuators" it solved literally all of my transmission issues. I'm not sure how temporary the fix is, but it makes sense that a dirty transmission is going to have issues. Cleaning the shift actuators with brake cleaner did the trick for most if not all of my transmission issues. The sooner the better because if they get too stuck, it's going to snap one of your shift forks. The first symptom is one of your two clutches getting stuck engaged or disengaged
@@BruceLigno In my case the opposite actuator to the one that does reverse was messing up. If it were the actuator then yes I would be having reverse issues. Same issue except for me, my good gears are: stuttery 1st gear, 2nd, and then skips 3rd goes to 4th. If I were having issues with my other actuator then I wouldn't be able to go into reverse. There's a thread where i helped someone diagnose and fix this issue. They did not have reverse gear.

Work Great thanks. Just an in info i drilled top hole 5mm from lef side insde where actuator. Which mean inside when you put back actuator cover top holes. Saving from water and dirts goes inside Case 😂

Just push the button to turn your car on when he says to turn your car on then follow his instructions but remember to not fully turn your car on. But mine said transmission ready… I pray to God this works.. I got a message on my vehicle last night. That transmission was hot. Pull over wait five minutes.. I work for Uber and I listened to a bunch of videos last night, but I had four gigantic men get in my car last night, and I could literally fill my car just sink down . Easily 1300 pounds was sitting in my vehicle. I drove them to Fort Worth because they were partying at the clubs. And in that area there are hills you kinda have to go up and down small ones. Anyway I was almost there to their destination and I got the message warning, trans transmission hot pull over and wait pull over stop wait five minutes…. Well, I waited 30 minutes. I was 25 miles from my home. But driving home I had no issues.. at 80,000 miles my transmission went out and I had it replaced for $2500. And my car is not slipping, gears or anything like that I just had that warning message show up on my screen. But I just followed his directions and it said transmission ready so I reset my transmission. I again thank you so much.
Was getting DTC P073F on my 2012 fiesta. Did this and the code went away. Before i could see on my DTC scanner live data that when i would take off from a stop it would start in 2nd, after doing this it now starts in 1st as it should.
My 2016 Mondeo had 163000.00 miles on it and the issue I have from around 45000 miles is that it goes into a sort of safe mode where on the dash says `see owners manual ` , the way I get over this is to pull over as the car will not excellerate as it cannot select the next gesar - I will pull over and turn the car off and wait for 20 ish seconds and then turn it back on and it resets the computer and then I drive off until it happens agan - it may not happen again for thousands of miles or may be just 1 mile - any thoughts guys - Cheers (UK)

Mine is a 2016 Ford Focus My Transmission Shudders at Take Off, after about 30 of Driving... It also Shudders at Take Off after making a few stops at different places - and shutting my car off at those places, then turning it back on after I leave a place. It will begin Shuddering at Take Off.
How are you changing gears with the key off? To change gears on mine I have to have the key on and my foot on the brake. This is a safety mechanism in all cars so kids or a passenger cant slide it out of park and have the car roll away!

The last step: turn it back on, then put in neutral. you're right he doesn't explain it clearly, but if you back up the video and watch it carefully you can see that when he turns it on it's still in park... then he puts it in neutral... there is a pause and then the screen reads transmission ready

Go put ur fiesta in neutral and turn the key off it will always say transmission ready look in owner’s manual it’s says that for flat towing that’s all it is it’s no transmission reset
I have a 2012 fucken tcm recall ford can’t get the part shifts like trash sometimes resetting it fixes it or disconnecting the battery temp fixes but the check engine light always come back for the same thing transmission control module or it comes up soemtimes as bad clutch actuator a or b which from talking with ford is the same codes it’s cause the tcm is straight booty and fails and ford doesn’t wanna fix them

To everyone below, you do know you need to replace the dual clutch transmission fluid right?? Resetting it won’t fix it. NO SUCH THING as a lifetime fill on any fluid. Oils breakdown from friction, heat cycling, and age. Triax has a cheap fluid for DCT.

am i the only one with a focus that nothing will work for it, i tried this a million times it doesn’t work. the car will never reverse and the transmission will never reset, even with an autel scanner i tried to reset it and it gets stuck at 80% and will be stuck there for over an hour. i tried disconnecting and reconnecting the battery and trying the reset still nothing. the focus is the biggest piece of shit u can buy. the transmission is a pile of shit, the rest of the car is good the transmission tho ? dog shit.
Likely your actuators. Get new ones and install. Before installing look up how to run the forks in and out while lubing - Unless your clutch is really bad, this works.

Update since someone just liked. The car has been working flawlessly since I did this. It looks like RS components sell the Autel data reader for £28

Work Great thanks. Just an in info i drilled top hole 5mm from lef side insde where actuator. Which mean inside when you put back actuator cover top holes. Saving from water and dirts goes inside Case 😂

I work for Uber and I listened to a bunch of videos last night, but I had four gigantic men get in my car last night, and I could literally fill my car just sink down . Easily 1300 pounds was sitting in my vehicle. I drove them to Fort Worth because they were partying at the clubs. And in that area there are hills you kinda have to go up and down small ones. Anyway I was almost there to their destination and I got the message warning, trans transmission hot pull over and wait pull over stop wait five minutes…. Well, I waited 30 minutes. I was 25 miles from my home. But driving home I had no issues.. at 80,000 miles my transmission went out and I had it replaced for $2500. And my car is not slipping, gears or anything like that I just had that warning message show up on my screen. But I just followed his directions and it said transmission ready so I reset my transmission. I again thank you so much.

Was getting DTC P073F on my 2012 fiesta. Did this and the code went away. Before i could see on my DTC scanner live data that when i would take off from a stop it would start in 2nd, after doing this it now starts in 1st as it should.
My 2016 Mondeo had 163000.00 miles on it and the issue I have from around 45000 miles is that it goes into a sort of safe mode where on the dash says `see owners manual ` , the way I get over this is to pull over as the car will not excellerate as it cannot select the next gesar - I will pull over and turn the car off and wait for 20 ish seconds and then turn it back on and it resets the computer and then I drive off until it happens agan - it may not happen again for thousands of miles or may be just 1 mile - any thoughts guys - Cheers (UK)
I have a 2012 plate. It wouldn't shift to sports mode. Lost power while trying to drive and got stuck in the road because didn't want to move. Recovery man tested it said was tcm and reset it. Now wondering how long til goes funny again because garage got it from won't fix it as said nothing is wrong or showing fault codes

How are you changing gears with the key off? To change gears on mine I have to have the key on and my foot on the brake. This is a safety mechanism in all cars so kids or a passenger cant slide it out of park and have the car roll away!
I saw him turn the key on right at the beginning. I did this procedure and it completely fixed my transmition seems like for good, thx so much.

Go put ur fiesta in neutral and turn the key off it will always say transmission ready look in owner’s manual it’s says that for flat towing that’s all it is it’s no transmission reset

I have a 2012 fucken tcm recall ford can’t get the part shifts like trash sometimes resetting it fixes it or disconnecting the battery temp fixes but the check engine light always come back for the same thing transmission control module or it comes up soemtimes as bad clutch actuator a or b which from talking with ford is the same codes it’s cause the tcm is straight booty and fails and ford doesn’t wanna fix them

@@wislydauphin7645 mine was shifting 1st to 3rd to 5th and sounded awful during acceleration. Cleaning those fixed all my issues for the price of brake cleaner and E10 torx socket

To everyone below, you do know you need to replace the dual clutch transmission fluid right?? Resetting it won’t fix it. NO SUCH THING as a lifetime fill on any fluid. Oils breakdown from friction, heat cycling, and age. Triax has a cheap fluid for DCT.

am i the only one with a focus that nothing will work for it, i tried this a million times it doesn’t work. the car will never reverse and the transmission will never reset, even with an autel scanner i tried to reset it and it gets stuck at 80% and will be stuck there for over an hour. i tried disconnecting and reconnecting the battery and trying the reset still nothing. the focus is the biggest piece of shit u can buy. the transmission is a pile of shit, the rest of the car is good the transmission tho ? dog shit.
Likely your actuators. Get new ones and install. Before installing look up how to run the forks in and out while lubing - Unless your clutch is really bad, this works.
