That hydraulic power steering feedback. That's what people don't get in the newer 911s. Man you are very lucky. Appreciate what you got there. Best modern classic 911 ever made. Perhaps the last true 911 in some instances

Bruuh this is not the right car for you. The fact that the brakes rust is due to the tropical climate. As you say, Porsches are made for the Autobahn, to California they also fit very well - but not in the tropics.
As a German 997.2 Carrera 4S owner I can tell you that you are too German, because all you do is complain :D
The average German is supposed to always complain a lot, but even German Porsche drivers (myself included) rave about a 911. That's why you're just the wrong person for this car. And that's not meant in a bad way at all. Driving a Porsche means purism. Few electronics, manual driving (or PDK ;)) and no electric mirrors or bells and whistles. At least until the Volkswagen takeover. That's the way it's meant to be. Rather buy a Corvette ;)

Welcome to 997.2 ownership. Nothing here to be concerned about - much of what you’ve noticed is down to specification or simply the Porsche way…
Full leather interior feels markedly more classy and avoids the plastic delaminating. Headlights turn off in European markets - DRLs are always on. Brake disks famously rust very quickly. Pro-tip; leave PDK in Park in your garage but do not apply the handbrake. The rear spoiler will lower on the button too - it simply needs the ignition to be on. (Your hinges need a drop of oil.) I’d also recommend swapping out the interior bulbs for LED replacements; makes the interior vibe more contemporary. Finally, the suspension geometry need to be correctly set up for the car to drive well; if it feels wayward at the front you may also have some worn bushes in the rear suspension (yes - rear).
The car is like nothing else; take your time to learn how it feels and drives. There is nuance and subtlety to its character. Enjoy!

Got to watch it a second time through and I think your 2 main gripes are the PDK, which I would expect and is reflected in the lower resale price of them, and the center console which is a legitimate gripe and fairly well documented.
You know I’ve been shopping for them, and I found the experience of driving one finally to be exactly what I want in a car, for me, at this point in life. More practical than any 2 seater, enough performance to satisfy, absolutely terrific soundtrack and driving experience, totally capable of “daily” duty, even up here, especially with a backup for truly nasty days.
Excited to see more content on this one. 👍

Sounds like your PDK needs to be serviced. A full servicing/fluid should restore 1-2 shift lag, which I too have noticed over time. Check if yours has the final PDK update, probably only through Dealers. I love manuals as well, drove one in Manhattan for 10 years. I chose a C7 7 speed to have at another state, but here in the heart of NYC, PDK is really enjoyable, even in non sport mode.
I actually like the weight and feel of the car, and find it pretty nimble to weave around traffic.
As far as the interior, you really have to judge the full leather dash, which takes the car to another level, especially with contrasting stitching.
Beige in my opinion, looks not as nice as the other colors and seems to wear much worse than black interiors.
At least we agree about storage space. I chose the Targa 4S for that reason alone. It's so practical I've transported a bike, 50"tv in a box, and I also use it to transport enough film gear for a good sized shoot.
I had my entire car wrapped in STEK film so I can keep it pristine even in a harsh urban environment.
One thing i really like about the pre 991 cars is the low console. I don't like the cockpit feel, and I don't like to be separated from the passenger.
The 997.2 has just the right size/wheel base, big naturally aspirated engines, and a nice amount of power that feels linear and controllable. I used to own a manual Mazda RX-8 and even with the low HP/torque, the car was blast to drive. You had to learn to drive it well and keep the RPMs up and in the power band for the reward. The 997.2 feels a little like that to me.
Mine's definitely not for sale, but I am looking forward to doing the full PDK service to see if it restores 1-2 shifts and more.

    • @AmateurEnthusiasm
      @AmateurEnthusiasm  Год назад

Thank you for the detailed comment. I agree with everything you have to say with the exception of I prefer the cockpit feel but understand why someone wouldn't. To answer your question, no the PDK has not been serviced and it is on the top of my list.

@@dontcallmetravis What are you talking about? There is a recommended fluid service interval for PDK, which has been reported to help 1-2 shift. if a PDK is actually broken, Porsche will only replace. However there is a company who developed the part for the most common failure.

Having owned an S2000 and now this same car, those are worlds appart. The direction is so much more direct and precise in a 911. The front feels very light on the Carrera 2S but not less than in the S2000 surprisingly as the later has the engine in the front. Cornering out is unbeatable in a 911 due to its weight distribution and the power difference is incomparable. The Cayman is a fantastic compromise. Superbly agile on the track too and a pleasure to drive.

So why did you buy it??? You don't sound like you're very familiar with the marque. And you certainly didn't investigate this car well. And you don't even like the color. That white is beautiful and I get compliments on it all the time. Did you think that a car as old as the one you purchased would have newly styled switches? And it's nicely light but feels too heavy?? I think you are just one of those people that likes to complain about anything. If you read the manual you'll find out how to lower the wing. Or just try holding the switch until the light goes out. Again, with so many things you do not like why did you buy it?? Oh, I get it, for something else to complain about! Perhaps you should more wisely spend some money on a competent psychiatrist.

This is just moaning to create content, who buys a Porsche without doing rudimentary research 🤷

He actually did a ton of research and purchased what he hoped would be the best car for him. But since he thinks he found a lemon, he decided to make some lemonade.

This video was supposed to be a first impressions but I realized I spent most of it complaining haha. So I renamed it to be more appropriate. More details on the car to come. Including tracking driving impressions etc. nice Bugatti btw.

Stick with the military buddy. Your review was a waste of time and totally misleading. Perhaps you purchased the wrong car for your needs. Good luck with it. I hope it grows on you.😂

There’s a button to lower the rear spoiler in the interior. Something an owner should see within the first day or so of owning the vehicle. One would expect someone making a complaints video would understand the vehicle slightly more than most of what you said on your video. Good luck with whatever you end up with. I’d learn slightly more about vehicles before you make videos about them possible get your followers up above the 2k mark.

The 997 is a great mix of old and new, it’s not a 992 or a 993. That’s what makes it special. You might be better off in a 991 or 992.
Also, 997.2 PDKs isn’t the PDK in the 991.
I have an aftermarket exhaust and engine mounts on mine and love how raw it is.

  • @lornewensel

Really your complaints are about buying a PDK knowing you wanted a manual, this is only buyer’s remorse. Your complaint about the color white and why is it not red or blue? When you buy a car normally you choose the color, this is on you. This video is full of ridiculous accusations and complaints about hear say issues just to increase your RUclips views. Total Bull Feathers!

Thank you for your comment! I bought the car because I wanted to try it. I suppose that's why most people buy a car.

Sounds like he wasn't afraid to jump into the deep end and try something different and away from the norm. As a massive Porsche enthusiast, it hurt to hear a negative review on a beautiful car. But as a grown adult thats mature enough to appreciate other people's opinion, I finished the video to have an honest discussion with him. Have you tried turning off and growing the F!CK up? Maybe that will help.

Weird. Didn't see how it was clickbait. The name and content match surprisingly well. Pretty good content on that also. I now know to stay away from 2/10 ish Porsche 997 911 Carrera S Autos.

he actually loves the car. but he had to give the video a title so that people would watch bc what else can you say about such a fantastic car? there are already so many 997.2 videos out there... so he gave it the title that he knew would get attention. "who on earth would hate on a 997.2!?" ... click. click click. clickbait.
