Tried to buy a car last weekend. The price on the window included the fake admin fee. When we got inside the salesman gave us numbers that included an extra admin fee as well as a $900 Lojack that wasn't on the window as an add on. So $1844 more as soon as we started negotiating. Then they took off the extra admin fee and they called it a discount. However, we told them to take the lojack out and they. Wouldn't. Needless to say..they still have the car. These people are crazy!!

All these bloated out computers on wheels for 40k+ is so overboard it's insane. So many people think they need AWD when they put no use to it, have to have heated stirring wheel, can't be bothered to...on no...reach over and push the button instead of having it on the wheel. Many years ago I used to work for a BHPH lot. The guy who owned the place always carried a bottle of water with him. Mazda 626 v6's had a design flaw where there was no way for liquids to drain out of the recessed spark plug wells. So when he looked over a car he wanted he would pull a plug wire and pour an inch of water in that plug well, then put the plug wire back on. It was completely invisible and cause a cylinder misfire code. 😆

We're trying to replace a totalled vehicle (young drivers!), but prices are still crazy on most everything. One owner, no accidents, 186k miles, '08 4Runner at a legit Toyota dealer I looked at yesterday, the dealer wanted $11,6k and they ain't budgin'! Car was an odd mix of taken care of, yet pretty much thoroughly worn out and filthy on the outside. Like I said, an odd mix. I asked if they were even going to clean it up and detail it and the salesman said "Nope"! And it's not even in their budget lot! 😕

My wife is in the market right now for a mid sized SUV. In the past couple of months, I still haven't seen anything more than $1k off, even on $60 to $70k vehicles. The sales people are admitting that sales are really slow, but the managers are still waiting for dummies to buy at these prices. I told them they could keep sitting on them. It may take a while, but I'll find a dealer that'll eventually need to sell at a decent discount.

Only problem with this is that the parts market isnt at all what it used to be. Progressively, its either DRAMATIC increases in part costs that are mainly used, because a LARGE % of the manufacturing of new parts for old cars is gone, or its an inability to find parts which means your automobile is down for an indefinite period. This will just get worse as vintage parts manufacturing continues to dwindle. That aside, there are only so many used parts to go around, and those only last so long.

This is exactly the information I've been waiting for! It's crazy at dealerships right now and I appreciate you explaining the situation from both the buyer and seller perspective. Sounds like prices are inflated due to tax season rush, but there's a good chance they'll drop by summer. I'll definitely wait until then to buy and avoid the bidding wars. In the meantime, good luck finding that missing 10mm socket, Alex!

I got it with 12k off sticker and all the rediculous fees marked off at this particular dealership. With other area dealerships competing slashing prices. I wish I could wait more but with the Challengers you have what you have on the lot and thats it - no more. Its getting crazy lol.
