  • Have you par tested your tank? The results might surprise you! Real world par numbers can be very different to what you might expect!

First Sam knocks off the big guns as Best RUclips Aquarium channel, and now shots fired! 😄 You do raise some good points though, and not dissimilar to factory rated or real world head pressure on a water pump.

      I totally agree.

Looks awesome mate, here's an idea for you to get more even spread, push you 2 outside lights another 2 to 4 inches further to the edge of the tank and remove the narrow beam reflector from your middle light and maybe crank the middle light up about another 10 to 20% intensity. This way you will get less hot spots but still have plenty of par for sps almost anywhere in the tank.

Cool idea, ill give it a go next time Rowan is around with the PAR meter and we can do some more experimentation

What a great idea, would be awesome if someone in Brisbane offered this service

I have a vague recollection that some of the Brisbane LFS have PAR meters for rent, maybe ask around a few you might find one

Amazing reef tank. I really like your light configuration but I see that the par values are not adequate for growing colored acropora. what do you plan to do to increase your par?

Dear, This is really good testing and view of point. just i would like to know is this reef Brite XHO or Lumi Lite Pro? and is it one or two units.

Im looking to setup an sps only tank with the same lights. So it looks like the PAR is not high enough. What if i put the lights lower?

I mean there numbers are a good starting point, but add rock, sand, a white back wall or black back wall and wave makers and they are a long way from reality....

Lol BRS is amazing in their own right. But we as Aussies reefers have proven we are no scrubs either.

@@ReefNerd checking with water movement isn't accurate and white is reflective. Reef brites are probably too high as well.

@@EricJohnson-dc2ej accurate for what? its the real world values that my coral will receive... to me testing in a perfectly still square box surrounded by black curtains is useless... because those values don't reflect remotely what corals receive under real world conditions in tanks in our homes.

@@ReefNerd the numbers will be all over the place if you test with significant surface agitation due to the light being scattered in different directions. It doesn't mean there's significantly less light reaching the corals overall.
