Corals are looking really good Alex with some lovely colours. Be great to see how the corals respond with having the same lights for a long period of time
Good video Alex. You’re on a very similar path as I. I’m running two 48 inch reef rite strips (with their mount)with two Kessel A360x, and a Radion xr 30 in the middle for about a year now and it’s working fantastic. Good choices! 🎉
Im going to setup an sps only tank this year. I was thinking of setting up like how your tank is with kessil and led strips. Would that give enough PAR for an sps only tank?
I love Kessil. I have a 36” 40gallon breeder tank with two old A360WEs. What would you recommend to upgrade to? AP9X or keep my Kessil’s and add reef bright strips? It’s mainly mixed reef but I seem to be throwing more sps up top
How did you find ur old or3s , I'm thinking about going back to a soft coral tank with a few bomb proof LP's and they seem to be the best value for money
@@ReefDork I was thinking of getting 3 over time and hope that covers a 2ft wide tank, the only reason I'm aloud to do this is because I told the wife I cud manage it on a budget🤣
Test the par before and after ideally to make sure there's no significant increase. If not, reduce the intensity of the new lights to make sure they're not much more powerful, then build up over time. Less light is fine at first, too much can shock your corals.
I throw my underpants aganst the wall, if they stick I change them, that does not work with LEDs though. I am a Kessil man myself, I love the A360X and their small profile along with the rigid mounting arms. Where did you get that right angled USB C thingy from please?
Great video as usual Alex. Your channel and reef is inspirational, I enjoy seeing all the tweaks! The light spread looks even, I assume the shimmer is stronger now you have removed t5's?
Oh Alex, I do believe you may be denial about keeping these (or any) lights for the duration of the tank 🤣Unless you already have plans to replace it 😉 Really interesting about the colours of the fish Alex. Keen to understand more. Are you noticing better colours in the fish whilst the whites are ramped up (because our eyes can see their more natural colours better in this light) or do you notice better colours in the fish at other stages in your light schedule? As always, thanks for your vids, Neil
When all lights are at their peak. Fish always look better under whiter lights of course, but it's more than just that - their colours are much more vivid and bright. Looks really cool.
400 watt halides all day long never will I rely solely on leds I do supplement reefbrite lumi lite pro , uv light is very important and led lights do not produce any!
@@ReefDork the Bluetooth module for the app control wasn’t great and you couldn’t set them at 1% or some leds flickered on and off until it reached 7% so I had to set it from 1% and add another straight after for 10% and the same but in reverse for lights out, and when I measured the extra par they wasn’t worth the money they cost. Charterhouse aquatics are getting better and better they even stock philips now
@@ReefDork I sold 2 5 month old xho bars and blue tooth module for £200 cash, i did like the extra coral pop, but the controllable reef factory bars are much better and they add more par and a crazy neon effect too all my acros :)
When I installed my own solar system, I looked into how much electricity my 300 gallon system was using and the results were shocking. For a year, we use on average 12,500kWh for our home. The system uses 4,500kWh! A third of our electricity goes to the system. If I were to bring myself to get rid of it, we would generate enough solar energy that we would never have an electric bill. 6months max till we see the next lighting update video! Haha.
🤣
The beginning of the video is absolutely hilarious 😂 you has my 👍after 10 seconds 🤣. Well done mate 👏
A perfectionist and a reefer
A blessing and a curse combo!
So glad that you invested the time and money in a search for the right light, thank you.
Love the intro to this …. 😂

Would you say this is a good light setup for a 3 inches x 40 inches by 30” tall?
Im going to setup an sps only tank this year. I was thinking of setting up like how your tank is with kessil and led strips. Would that give enough PAR for an sps only tank?
Yeah, this is loads - my Kessils are only at about 70%
Thinking about going with this setup, are you still using this arrangement? Are you happy with it? Thanks in advance. Cheers.
I wasn't happy with the colour the Reefbrites gave off in the end. Swap them for AI Blades and 🤌

Of those 2 options, I'd go for the Reefbrites - better to have more spread than more punch.
How high do you have it mounted above the water surface?
11 inches to the bottom of the Reefbrites and 9.5 inches to the bottom of the Kessils.
why did u quited in the x500 ?
The Kessils were great but I didn't like the colour the Reefbrites gave in the end. They go great with AI Blades though...
Hey ..Can you tell me the name of the Acrro at 2:14? The yellow one
It's a Pikachu
@@ReefDork Very nice..Thank you
This is a reasonable change. No more bull replacement. Probably the better option.
How would you compare the reefbrites to the or3?
Haven't tested PAR but the spread is MUCH wider than the Orphek
I like the bracket, very clean looking. Maybe one day I will upgrade my Viparspectras.
Fluval evo update where is it?
Reef Dork Xtra channel...
Very good Alex! 😀👍👍

Why did you stop using the 2 reef breeders? Those look like great coverage.
They were awesome but I missed the way my tank looked under Kessils
Ah so it was the shimmer from the Kessils. I see.
👍 for another Stellar Video. It does still look like Mecano scaffolding 😂😂😂
Are you using the blue xho or the 50/50s?
Actinic - 100% blue
Great video mate

Yeah definitely a little more shimmertastic.
I've got 4x T5s, and just installed 2x of the orphek bars. A good setup. :)
I like turtles.
As long as you’re happy, mate! 😆😘
Haha why am I not surprised! Literally said that the other day on the stream and you stole my joke :)
👍☺️
You becoming famous for changing your🌉🎇 lights ☺️
Looks like an improvement ! Sure ya don't wanna try the 250 watt radium's ? Hee Hee
Those reef brite strips produce lots of par, it might be too much light for the corals to handle. I would definitely check the par.
The intro 😂😂 👏
Great Video - where did you get the ReefBrites ?
2 new ones from The Ocean Project, 2 used ones from ebay.

I prefer the shorter video's :) i dont really like the 2 -3 hour discussions etc :P BUT keep IT going ON dude, i watched all of your video's 🤘🤘🤘🤘
😂😂😂😂😂😂 i’ll believe it when I see it … unless you are planning on changing tank within a year 😂
Dude, you might as well try halides and LEDs for 6 months.
🤤
check out the quanta bars, i think they are much nicer than the reefbrites
Cool setup. I have to be honest though, I think your Reefbreeders looked better. Of course how it looks is subjective.
Keep up the good content.

Would love to see a breakdown of the cost of running a reef tank in todays silly high prices of electricity.
I'm working on that - it's why I bought the energy monitor...
My 1400 ish watt tank costs me about 1.20 a day
I also have an energy monitor, but have plugged it in... I just don't want to know how much electricity I'm paying for reefing 🤐
