Highly agree with this video. I believe heavy high rep dumbell presses are the best overall accessory for muscle mass, building equal strength in both arms, and building the stabilizers in your shoulders. Also builds your pecs really well. Repping 405 was so much more explosive/smoother once i was repping the shit out of 150s to 160s. Careful though with really heavy dumbbells, they can be pretty fucking dangerous.
@@rockon8174 the machine won't do shit for your stabilizers, it won't do shit for your other muscles involved in benching besides the delts, pecs and tris. Furthermore machines lock you into one plane of motion which could actually lead to injury if it's not the plane you're meant to move in. Use machines for light accessories only.
This is why a lot of these power lifter types (not talking about the elite ones) suffer with the bench. They try training it like the squat and dead (low reps lots of sets higher frequency) and never gain any appreciable amount of muscle to really get their bench moving. Usually the guys who can train their bench like the squat and make progress from it are guys who already have a lot of muscle mass or respond really well to that type of training. Variation and higher reps are key for benching. Squatting can benefit from variation as well but the degree of variation isn’t as great as with the bench. Lower rep ranges and more sets seem to be more helpful.
Yup! I'm going to start to include more Bench Press volume with moderate weight vs always trying to go up in weight with lower reps. The OHP responds similarly to the Bench Press. Lots of volume.
ya man when i started doing high intensity interval training on a rower my bench went up, the upper back strength and feel i gained from it helped so much
So how do you test for or find the leading indicators to determine your weaknesses. Iveheard LouieSimmons talk about how a new guy can come in to W.B. and train with 500 lb pressers and quickly determine where he's weak relative to them just by comparing his lifts to theirs. But most of us dont have guys like that to train with how do you determine your weak point in your bench? Has anyone ever put together a matrix that shows various indicator lifts and how much one should be able to do to bench a certain amonunt. For example to Bench 500 you should be able to.military press x# and JM press x# etc?
#facts people dont like to focus on weak points and doing the small details and that is the difference between amo and pro! every sport every business and in life in general it is true! Thankyou for sharoing that small conversation as its all i can get here in NZ as te pros are selling the cool image and everyone is misled but hey thats what happens if you look behind the curtain of the wizard! #thankyou #dave #luvbug #dangreen

@@rockon8174I literally laughed out loud at this comment. Have fun on your machines
I am currently working to up my benchpress using Dan Green's cues. Dan is awesome.
Everthing Dan says makes so much sense. Nothing overcomplicated.

Best thing to do is to experiment with what works for you. Everyone body is different you have to figure out what works for your body.
