Most Underrated Metallica Song. They should play more on next concerts
This is imo one of Metallicas best songs lyrically. “How can I be lost when I’ve got nowhere to go” and “How can I blame you when it’s me I can’t forgive” are poetic lines
Definitely. That was just your life, and the day that never comes played a huge part in getting me into Metallica, and anything from that album live really excites me. It may not be a perfect album, but it's a really solid one, that certainly needs a little more love.
It was intentionally raw. That's what they were going for. It worked better there than St Anger. Having said that, rerecordings for the vocals with a bit more energy, slightly less 'justice meets st anger but in a less horrible way than that sounds, but is still not that great' drums, and turned down distortion (clean guitar and bass sounded nice), maybe slightly louder bass... The point is, it could've been better. Still good compositions and good songs.
I'm seeing them in Saskatoon on Saturday and I'm hoping they play Broken Beat and Scarred that's my mom's favourite off death magnetic and they rehearsed it in Madison so I'm really hoping they play it and hope they debut another song off of HTSD
Official David Chubb Please give us an update after the concert 😊. I'm seeing them in October and no doubt no matter what they play I'm gonna be flippin the fck out. Enjoy the concert and try not to spend too much time behind the camera/phone. I know you want to always relive the show but plenty of ppl will post vids.
Why didn't they shoot a music video for this song, I will never understand. It has almost cinematographic lyrics which would be perfect for a classy video. If they did a song trilogy for Unforgiven then they should've done a video trilogy for it, as well to complete the circle. Such an underrated and orphaned song.
I’ve got an idea for the Unforgiven III video, it should be them in a house with a bunch of half-naked drunk and drugged up girls, and at the end they smash their equipment!!!!!! No, wait, that’s Whiskey in the Jar. 🤣🤣🤣🤘
Not exactly. In '84 it was a far bigger thing to shoot a music video. They even got blamed for coming up with one for One in '89. I think that Unforgiven III would have been a perfect song for a music video.

This is one of the best songs on Death Magnetic, and probably the best of the Unforgiven trilogy! It has so much power and emotion (particularly with the intro omitted from this video). I was 14 back in 2008; I was just discovering Metallica and while the classics like Sandman, Puppets and One played their undeniable part in making me a fan, Death Magnetic was fundamental to my journey of discovery. This song, in particular, blew me away; the orchestral intro, the riff, the lyrics and that mind-blowing bridge and solo. Ian Wakefield Absolutely. He has an incredible voice control, and the voice itself is really stronger. He may lack the growl and harshness of 88-92 era, but he sings with much more control, especially for someone who is in his mid fifties.
@@azefanas For me his worst is 93-95, when he lost his voice and didn't had control over his softer voice, he went out of tune a lot (Chile 93 for example)
One thing about kirk is he has always been really good at changing his solo's slightly during live performances and I think this get's undervalued a lot. It's so much better imo to get some creativity and emotion from an artist you go to see. Even if they make a couple mistakes it's a hell of a lot better then playing the exact same way over and over.
James: You'll never read this but, you are an inspiration and what made me play music to begin with. I'll play down strokes 'til the day I die. The personal journey you made, fighting alcoholism, drugs, staying fabulous through all these years.. And all of the band; thank you. Cliff, Jason, Rob, Kirk, Lars, Dave. You are, and still inspire me to be, better of a human. Every day.
After 2 years I finally realized James plays the verse riff differently in this performance compared to the album version. This is how it should’ve been on the album!
I am always baffled how James can play the rhythm sections of the songs so perfectly, as if it was in the recording and sing in the same moment. It's not like strumming, where it is easy. Man that takes so much skill, talent and years of experience I am sure.
@@harrisontownsend910 that would be awesome to see! I'm excited to see them play twice next year in Chicago. Its going to be interesting to see how they do there setlists for each night. No repeat songs either
Man, that was perfect! I honestly love this live version a whole lot better than the studio version, and that's saying a lot! James' voice right now fits the emotion so perfectly!
Unreal. The lyrics and music rip the feelings right out of you. I used to think the chorus sounded too much like stp's creep but now it's definitely it's own thing enough for me. I can feel so much history, loss, and regret that it fills me up and empties out catharsis.
Chris Calvert Yeah hopefully!!!! The show that played 2 nights ago didn’t really have any special songs so hopefully they are holding some back for later In the tour.!!!
Listen to it on repeat a million times on Spotify then. The setlists are made up of which songs people listen to on Spotify in the different places they play. It's a new thing they're doing

One of the very best Metallica songs. Great live performance as usual and just in case anyone still had doubts about Kirk Hammet being one of the greatest guitar hero to have walked on any stage... anywhere... anytime.
How could he know this new dawn's light
Would change his life forever?
Set sail to sea but pulled off course
By the light of golden treasure
Was he the one causing pain
With his careless dreaming?
Been afraid
Always afraid
Of the things he's feeling
He could just be gone
He would just sail on
He would just sail on
How can I be lost?
If I've got nowhere to go?
Searched the seas of gold
How come it's got so cold?
How can I be lost
In remembrance I relive
How can I blame you
When it's me I can't forgive?
These days drift on inside a fog
It's thick and suffocating
This seeking life outside its hell
Inside intoxicating
He's run aground
Like his life
Water's much too shallow
Slipping fast
Down with the ship
Fading in the shadows now
A castaway
Blame
All gone
Away
Blame gone away
How can I be lost
If I've got nowhere to go?
Search for seas of gold
How come it's got so cold?
How can I be lost
In remembrance I relive
And how can I blame you
When it's me I can't forgive?
Forgive me
Forgive me not
Forgive me
Forgive me not
Forgive me
Forgive me not
Forgive me
Forgive me, why can't I forgive me?
Set sail to sea but pulled off course
By the light of golden treasure
How could he know this new dawn's light
Would change his life forever
How can I be lost
If I've got nowhere to go?
Search for seas of gold
How come it's got so cold?
How can I be lost
In remembrance I relive
So how can I blame you
When it's me I can't forgive?
Thank you and God bless you!
4:30 Hell yeah, he still got it
I mean. James is a better singer now than he was in 2008
Klatix James hasn't sung this well since the early 90s. From 2013 to nowadays he has basically got his voice back.
He has practised singing so much since DM released. Technically, he's miles ahead of where he was ten years ago.
Incredible how james voice is still so beautiful even at 55
It's almost better nowadays
He’s 60 singing good as ever
Just realized the S&M2 version of this song was played exactly a year after this performance
It's almost like they pick the same date for performing this song 😂😂
4:33 That’s Hatfield voice!!!
followed by a 2 mil guitar solo
Like back in the old days 1991 voice re-emerges for a while!
One thing about kirk is he has always been really good at changing his solo's slightly during live performances and I think this get's undervalued a lot. It's so much better imo to get some creativity and emotion from an artist you go to see. Even if they make a couple mistakes it's a hell of a lot better then playing the exact same way over and over.
you mean he fucks it up differently each time?
Que viva MetallicA carajo!!!
Sabés que Metallica es la verga misma cuando hasta una página de odontología la alaba! Aguante Metallica viejo!
A claro que si
Rebel With a Cause jajajaaj hasta la muerte!!!
Esa esa 😎😂
cuanto cuesta una endodoncia?
now ''That was just your life'' pls
Seria mt foda!
I absolutely love that song, I’ve been wanting them to play it again
do you wanna kill Lars?
I don't think even James knows the lyrics
@@jacobw.8094 I guess James is the guy to play that one, but I don't think Lars and Kirk can do it.. maybe if they practice again. Would be awesome
The atmosphere is unmatched
James hetfield, Lars Ulrich, kirk hammet and robert Trujillo. Perfect
Noor Duif Cliff was objectively better than Robert, but sure
@@jostin4041 Really? Cliff? MORE THAN 30 YEARS FFS LET IT GO! besides.... JASON is 10.000 times better enough said.
To be honest, cliff, jason, Robert, they’re all good.
@@JuanPabloContrerasC lol as if. Cliff is only good of his alt style. Jason is his presence and his backing vocals.
@@airconditioningunit9777 cooling off dude
James: You'll never read this but, you are an inspiration and what made me play music to begin with. I'll play down strokes 'til the day I die.
The personal journey you made, fighting alcoholism, drugs, staying fabulous through all these years..
And all of the band; thank you. Cliff, Jason, Rob, Kirk, Lars, Dave. You are, and still inspire me to be, better of a human. Every day.
What an absolutely killer song. All of the Unforgiven songs are so heavy
Son unos genios!!! saludos desde Argentina!
James Hetfileld is truly a god gifted musician.
How is singing with so power after all these years
It's just amazing.
Maybe he has a lot of raw eggs for breakfast :)
After 2 years I finally realized James plays the verse riff differently in this performance compared to the album version. This is how it should’ve been on the album!
My favorite Metallica song of all time. And in my opinion the best song ever created.
I am always baffled how James can play the rhythm sections of the songs so perfectly, as if it was in the recording and sing in the same moment. It's not like strumming, where it is easy. Man that takes so much skill, talent and years of experience I am sure.
Underrated Metallica song, I don’t see wrong in it. It’s out together well, and sounds amazing. They should definitely play this more⚡️🤘🏼🔥
I was at this show. I was happy they played the UF3 its the best one imo. This show entirely was a great show!
I kinda wish James would break out the b bender and do all three unforgivens at once.
@@harrisontownsend910 that would be awesome to see! I'm excited to see them play twice next year in Chicago. Its going to be interesting to see how they do there setlists for each night. No repeat songs either
@@wardor9214 I wish I could see those shows but they're not doing any in my part of the country.
@@harrisontownsend910 where are you located? I have to travel from Iowa to Illinois
@@wardor9214 nevermind then there's probably one in Texas.
I love this, the most criminally underrated song, in MetallicA history.
I like this song.
Masterpiece
Great - now play Until it Sleeps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Perfeeectttttttttttttt...Metallica is back😍😍😍😍
Man, that was perfect! I honestly love this live version a whole lot better than the studio version, and that's saying a lot! James' voice right now fits the emotion so perfectly!
Thank You, Gentlemen, for Sharing this Invaluable Gift. Your Music Has Been There For Me When No One else Has.
Thank You!!!
4:41 repeat button for myself
wahmett on fire!
Fantastic performance 🤘
kirk nailed that solo 🔥🔥
Uhhhh no he did not...he was definitely wingin it with some vague memories of how to play it but it didn't matter. Still kicked it's ass
Nah bro he made up some shit here and there. Still good though
He definetley improvised most of it.
This was great, I was there. I remember just yelling "YES!" As loud as I could when they started playing this.
Man...It's remembers me about going to school in a haze morning listening to it...That mood, I can feel listening to it.
This album was defining for me as a 19 year old.
Such a magnificent song!
Wow, they played a great song in an even greater way!
Absolutely stunning performance! Have no words for how well this was performed..
Unreal. The lyrics and music rip the feelings right out of you. I used to think the chorus sounded too much like stp's creep but now it's definitely it's own thing enough for me. I can feel so much history, loss, and regret that it fills me up and empties out catharsis.
Every song on death magnetic is amazing!!! That whole whole album is gold.
Play All Nightmare Long October 18th please!!!!!😁🤘🏼
That would be sweet!
Hmmmmm. That's a good song but I want the day that never comes. I'm guessing you're going to the Pittsburgh show because of the date. So am I :)
The Coke Yeah dude!!! Unforgiven Tickets! It’s going to be awesome I’m so excited just a little over a month to go!!🤘🏼😁
Fixxxer next
Yes please
MetallicA
I can't believe I'm saying this but this is the best live song I've heard from them in a few months. Awesome.
I love this version
I can totally relate to this song on so many levels it reaches deep into my soul
Call me crazy, but I'd love to hear one or two from St. Anger. I don't believe it to be as bad as most people think.
I agree. I actually really like a few songs off that album
@@danteezy_ honestly, that was the first Metallica album I listened to. Saw the music video of St. Anger in high school and immediately thought, "wow, these guys are so fucking metal." I loved it and then bought all the other albums. Haha
Sweet amber-Frantic-The unnamed feeling...are great songs
I remember when they played Dirty Window in 2011 and Kirk added a solo. This was actually really fine. I would listen to it a lot.
AdolPLay Yeah they should do that for all St Anger songs. Imagine sweet amber or unnamed feeling with a solo
finally my favorite metallica's song!
This is absolute perfect, dear good!
i love this
when metallica dies, music dies forever in the world
First time in eight long years this has been played. Another brilliant Death Magnetic song returns to the setlist
METALLICA IS THE BEST !!!!!
Most underrated Metallica song ever, probably (or Mama Said). Love this song! The bridge that builds up to that awesome solo!
This my favourite video/live version of a song of all time
this is such a legendary song. gets me in that mood every time.
Some of James's best lyrics
No me gustó esta tercera parte
@@rodolfosilva8974 muy graves tus gustos jaja
This is my favorite of the three.
Metallicaaa :D
Nick Jack Watts i was there and trust me nobody said metallica. We just screamed as loud as we possibly could dude.
I've listened to Metallica since I was 7 years old. They are STILL one of my top 3 bands. AC/DC and Ozzy are the others.🤘
i listen to this song all the time. its the best song they've put out since and justice for all..
