A song too personal and deep for James Hetfield. It is a miracle that with all the bad that happened in his life he is still alive. he is a really tough guy. I will leave a few words from James in an interview in 2001 where he explains this song and why he composed it. “I felt I wanted to stop drinking around the time of ‘Load.’ ‘Perhaps I’m missing something.’ Everyone else appears to be constantly happy. ‘I’d like to be happy.’ ‘The Misfits are playing in town Friday night, so Saturday is hangover day,’ I’d tell myself. James has matured alot since 99. I think this version is so good. His breath control and pitch are way better. Also you can tell his emotions are strongly connected with this performance, which gives it a very authentic performance, almost crying during the song. Probably from what is going on in his personal life. I love this version. Age looks like it is catching up with Kirk, looks like he is struggling with his pick hand but still pulls through.

The way James can sing and play so perfectly cleanly every damn night is so impressive. I'm a singer and guitar player myself and I definitely don't do it this well. It's effortless for him it seems and I can't go to enough MetallicA shows. Oh yea and also he is such a great songwriter. And double oh yea, the band is incredible! James had a million different emotions flow through his body in this song. You can see it in his face and hear it in his voice. 5:17 shows this. Scared, pressure, innocence, and then relief. An amazing song taken from an album not like the others.
Too bad he either hits it too hard or it just sounds way too harsh. Maybe he forgot he was playing it with the tip of the cymbal close to the middle, not on the edge like a crash lol ;)

Fuck yes. Load and Reload are different, but theyre masterpieces nonetheless and I'll die on that hill all day long. There are straight HEATERS on both of those albums.
Both are bangers with gems on each track. Personally I’ll go Reload because it feels better to me but don’t mess around with load either. Watch So What live Cunning Stunts. Everyone was losing their shit whenever they were jamming Bad Seed before the song.
At this stage of Metallica's career it seems only right to embrace more of the Load era stuff and perhaps let the guys feel they are free to explore more of that if they wish.
At their current age I'd love to hear another album with a Load/Reload style material rather than forcing out the thrashier stuff (my younger self wouldn't believe I'd ever say that). This just sounds more organic to them now.
@@shaunrevell5594 agreed more of rock sounding album would make me happier than another thrasher, stuff like king nothing and until it sleeps would be really cool to hear

@@ShipReK66 yes. But Metallica was already popular after kill em all, got even more after rtl, in the beginning of 86 mop was released and blew up. I don't see why would it be a problem to cover a 5 yr old band.
Not to the casual Metallica listener Nothing else matters will be one of the few they know because they can't take the time ti dig deeper into the catalog
Almost 30 years later I cannot believe that a heavy metal band created a music like this. In fact, calling Metallica as a heavy metal band does not duly translates their contribution to the World of Music. The mix of sounds, feelings, places, whatever you want to call it is simply amazing, what a GEM this music is. And as I get older, it seems I like this music more... Thank you Metallica and keep ON!!
The Load albums don’t deserve the hate they get. Yes there a couple songs that feel like filler and aren’t great, but they have many underrated songs. The only argument the haters give is that it “isn’t metal”. Who cares?
If load was released by anyone else it would of been a massive album. I think load is a fantastic album and was actually the very first Metallica album I bought in 1996 as a 7th grader.
In the late 90's James was focused to sing clear and safe in the live shows. Now he actually sings with emotion and he is not worry to use harsh vocals. That why his vocals are why better than 1997-2016 era.
I know people dismiss Load and Reload a lot and for years they weren't my favorites, but at this point, they might actually be my favorite Metallica albums. Partly due to nostalgia as they were released when I was leaving high school and so they felt like "My" Metallica more than the earlier albums, but also because these songs are just fantastic. I know Hetfield has commented that the experience for them was more of polishing songs rather than organically developing them (or something to that effect), but holy crap can Metallica polish. Any time any of these songs come on I zone out for a bit to really breathe them in.
Its like growing up. You hate what your parents say and think they don't understand you and what not. Then you are in your 20s and you get it. Load is in its 20s and we realize how good it actually is.
I've always liked the songs like this one, the thorn within, and the outlaw torn. What we could have done without was the radio rock like ain't my bitch and fuel. These songs would have been great paired with thrashy or more heavy metal material like we saw on Death Magnetic and Hardwired.
I agree. Load came in the summer before 9th grade for me and I loooooved it. The. Reload came November of 10th grade. Load changed me life and both albums will forever be part of my teen years.
I'm 40 and I've loved Metallica ever since I saw "One" for the first time on MTV back in like '89. I was 6 or 7 and I got in SO much trouble because the song grabbed me so hard I cranked the volume on our 27" Zenith ALL THE WAY up and was literally bouncing off the furniture. I was so happy with what I was hearing. My mom came in from OUTSIDE to whip my ass for having the TV up so loud. Worth it

I couldn’t have said it better myself. This song has seen my through some rough times indeed.
Simply the Best Ever Rendition of Bleeding Me I’ve heard in the past 20+ years, Way to sing James
Wow! James's vocal are just getting better and better. He truly aged like wine.
Bleeding me is one of my favourite songs, and I'm so glad it's back on the playlist.
Can't wait for the new album :)
Kirk has the best clean guitar effect live I've ever heard.
'This thorn in my side is from the tree I planted. It tears me and I bleed.' One of the best lines ever and it resonates with me so deeply. I love you James. I feel you and hear you and anyone else who identifies with this. You are LOVED.
James got emotional and its beautiful. what an amazing song
James had a million different emotions flow through his body in this song. You can see it in his face and hear it in his voice. 5:17 shows this. Scared, pressure, innocence, and then relief. An amazing song taken from an album not like the others.
4:40 aw muh gawddd
Yeah, he was shattered from his wife just having left him
One of the most underrated Metallica songs ever. Absolutely brilliant.
The best part of this song is that Lars has his ride cymbal back!
Sooo true! 👊🤘
Glad someone mentioned it. Love to see it.
Too bad he either hits it too hard or it just sounds way too harsh. Maybe he forgot he was playing it with the tip of the cymbal close to the middle, not on the edge like a crash lol ;)
Is it a ride?sounds more like a crash
@@pietdijkman1980 yeah, it's the ride. On the rare times he brings it out, his tech uses a small cymbal attachment for it off the back cymbal stand he has his big ride. A Custom 20" ping.
These are the time of my life (my 30's) when i feel the lyrics of this song more than ever. I've already battled enough shit in my life to try to be happy today, it's hard and I literally feel like I'm falling sometimes, but I want to leave all the bad behind to be happy with my current life. I think that's what the lyrics are about, bleeding out to leave the bad behind.
Thanks Papa Het for this masterpiece! And come to Argentina, we already miss u man 🇦🇷🤟❤️🔥
You've got the whole point of it. I think James also made a similar remark in the Playboy 2001 interview, if you search it up on Google...
i’ve been in a depressive episode and nothing has been able to cheer me up but THIS. THIS. holy shit. AMAZING. this definitely put a smile on my face. absolutely beautiful. Metallica is my favorite band in the world. oh man how i wish i was in the front row of that crowd during this haha. bleeding me is one of my favorite songs. this is beautiful!! love you all so so much !!
I couldn’t echo your sentiments any more poignantly, thank you
No one's gonna talk about Rob's heavy backing vocals towards the end?! That was sick
After 20 years in the band, picking up where Jason left off. It’s good to hear him FINALLY getting his voice to that level.
@@quiksilverz2451 He and James are both considerably better than they were not even 5 years ago.
Yes, I agree! And It is good to see Kirk’s Ouija guitar! Some pretty fancy slide work, Kirk :) Anyone else think that looks like a shell casing? And it magically disappeared LOL
Amazing! Beast Backing Vocals! Awesome! MONSTER!
@@quiksilverz2451 je crois qu il a apporté beaucoup plus à Metallica ne vous en déplaise
Fuck yes. Load and Reload are different, but theyre masterpieces nonetheless and I'll die on that hill all day long. There are straight HEATERS on both of those albums.
I LOVE BOTH
@@andrade2129 Me too! 🤘
Both are bangers with gems on each track. Personally I’ll go Reload because it feels better to me but don’t mess around with load either. Watch So What live Cunning Stunts. Everyone was losing their shit whenever they were jamming Bad Seed before the song.
@Alex Williams bangers
@Alex Williams You're welcome.
@@shaunrevell5594 agreed
@@shaunrevell5594 agreed more of rock sounding album would make me happier than another thrasher, stuff like king nothing and until it sleeps would be really cool to hear
@@shaunrevell5594 Absolutely; an album of stuff like Poor Twisted Me, Ronnie, and the acoustic All Within My Hands would be one of their best albums yet... and it should be called "Threeload" to make it a trilogy!!
Bleeding Me is my all time favorite Metallica song. I hope to hear it live someday.
I grew up listening to this album with my dad blaring it in the car. I loved it then and the older I get the more and more I appreciate it. Touches my soul everytime I hear it. My dad struggles with substance abuse and alcoholism and I feel these lyrics go hand in hand with his struggles. I don’t care what anyone says this shit right here is as good as it gets.
One of my most favorite Metallica songs. Lots of darkness, struggle and depth in these lyrics. Glad to see James where he is today.
I'm 51 and from the Central Valley in California. We covered Metallica in 1986, when I started a band at 15! Love Metallica
that must have been really cool
@@ShipReK66 5 years
@@ShipReK66 Yes we did!
@@ShipReK66 yes. But Metallica was already popular after kill em all, got even more after rtl, in the beginning of 86 mop was released and blew up. I don't see why would it be a problem to cover a 5 yr old band.
I was in the very front of this concert, it was fucking amazing!
Lucky Phrog
This song gets me every damn time. The crescendo after 4:40, you can tell this song hits home for James.
One of the most underrated songs!!!
One of my favorite songs by Metallica.
Nice, the S&M version is the best
Yo Rich!
The day "Nothing Else Matters" was replaced by "Bleeding Me"... I wish they would keep the setlists that way.
Yeah, exactly.
This song is way better than nothing else matters!
Agreed!
Not to the casual Metallica listener
Nothing else matters will be one of the few they know because they can't take the time ti dig deeper into the catalog
@@mandolore_the_glorious7049 They could be forced! 😁🤘
I first heard this on S&M and it blew me away. James’ writing finds its way into your soul and fills it with his pain.
It's already a great song, but on S&M it's just really, really great.
My favourite Metallica song ever. love seeing this getting performed again
God damn, lars is hitting those drums harder than ever lol legendary, I fucking love these guys.
The Load albums don’t deserve the hate they get. Yes there a couple songs that feel like filler and aren’t great, but they have many underrated songs. The only argument the haters give is that it “isn’t metal”. Who cares?
Totally agree; there's so much heart and pain poured into LOAD. Sucks that it constantly gets overlooked.
If load was released by anyone else it would of been a massive album. I think load is a fantastic album and was actually the very first Metallica album I bought in 1996 as a 7th grader.
6:19 is awesome. It absolutely needs a backing vocal and Rob does a great job.
he is doing like it is in the record. There is that backing voice in the original recording =)
Rob has definitely gotten better. He’s finding where his voice can match with James. They just all sound so seasoned even instruments.
Might be the most emotional performance of this song, it kinda looks and sounds like James was holding back tears at 4:49
I noticed that, around 4:40.. insane.
@@JoeOcegueda Seems like he's taken his life back into his hands again and he doesn't want to let it go again. That's how I see it
99 Woodstock and this video.
In the late 90's James was focused to sing clear and safe in the live shows. Now he actually sings with emotion and he is not worry to use harsh vocals. That why his vocals are why better than 1997-2016 era.
Nope..Best Bleeding Me is Sm 1999
Metallica has a song for every shade of emotion. That's why I will never love any other band like i love them. Long live Metallica! 🤘
I like Load and Reload too! ❤ We need more lives musics from that!!
One of my most favorite Metallica songs. I could never get tired of it.
this was one of the best live recordings of Metallica in a long time
Load & Reload still my favourites after all these years .....👍
Puppets will always be my favorite because it got me into them back as a 9 year old (I'm 40 now) but Load is a very close second if not TIE for first.
This song hits different. The only song I could listen to for hours on end and never get tired of.
Drove PA-LENTY of detours, just to hear it one more time!
That song save me when I was younger, I felt that way about everything and then Metallica gave me the words to what I felt.
Load and ReLoad are criminally underrated albums, I love 'em! Also, AiC and Metallica are my all-time favorites! 🤘😆🤘
Fuck yeah finally! One of the songs that heals my soul...
One of the best Kirk's solos ever written
Most solos in the load and reload album are really great
5:51
Fuck, that's still one of the best riffs of all time.
It’s like “that part” in most Metallica songs. Just changes the mood and gets you hella pumped up. I love it.
I believe it’s Kirk’s!
Pure Sabbath joy!
@@DietMoney it is yes
I love that kick ass solo!!~~
@@Ledmetacdc love fuel. Burn you face on the chrome
@@MrOasis316 check out the band motorjesus. It's like a whole band with that kind of style. They kick major ass.
I agree. Load came in the summer before 9th grade for me and I loooooved it. The. Reload came November of 10th grade. Load changed me life and both albums will forever be part of my teen years.
My god. His voice is the best I have ever heard it. And this is one of their most powerful, emotional songs ever. They sound AMAZING.
I'm a genuine Load/Reload Metallica kid. these songs make me happy.
How the fuck is metallica still this good 40 years later. It's actually insane
What an outstanding performance from everyone involved.
One of their best post-justice songs. maybe the best.
What a sound ! Have only Metallica !!!
Load and Reload are criminally underrated.
This is pure perfection.
I love this metallica bleeding me 🎶 🎤 🎸
Glad to see them playing this one more often. One of the most beautiful songs they've ever written.
Worth it
Fantastic as usual. Best band ever was and still is.......I am the 5 th member..........
James you just keep getting better !! Your voice is amazing!!
