I think Lars is a big reason why at least half of the songs they've written since Kill 'Em All have ended up the way they did on the albums. He may not be the best drummer but he seems to definitely be good at the musical arrangements and taking what has been written and putting a great song together out of it all.
I love the first 2 verses of this song. How could he know. This new dawn's light. Would change his life forever. Set sail to sea. But pulled off course. By the light of golden treasure. REALLY GREAT !!!!
I love how these guys work. They just sit in a room together and feed off each others energy while constantly brainstorming ideas. Lars especially, when he's in the zone he looks like a mad scientist trying to discover some new law of physics. Lol. James adds some balance by making sense of all the madness, Kirk just watches then goes home and comes back with something, and Rob I think just pretty much shows up and does what he is told. So awesome to watch, could watch them for hours.
have to admire Lars direction and foresight towards song structuring and his work ethic towards making something small into a Metallica song. I admit i was one of those guys who shat on him for his ego and mannerisms but now i feel i am respecting his work in metallica
He just knows what it takes man. That's all there is to it. It's pure work ethic. People can shit on Lars all they want. It doesn't change the fact that he's the drummer for Metallica and they're some nobody talking shit.
Lars may not be a crazy songwriter, but he seriously has epic arrangement visions, throughout all of Metallica's history he helped shape the complex songs. I read an interview in a Magazine I own, James confirmed this.
Of all the unforgiven trilogy, Unforgiven III is the best I think. James: You are a great songwriter. You put a hell of emotion to every song you touch. We are so lucky to be witnessing history by living in the same era with you. Please never give up writing songs. Thank you for being part of our lives. Respect!
I was at both shows of S&M 2. Being there to witness James sing this solo with just the symphony was unreal! I also went to the S&M2 movie in October. It sounded amazing! I can't wait until it's released on blu-ray and the album dropping in February.
u know James was a drummer. Also i think he was better drummer than Lars xd he can beat Lars on this drum battle: ruclips.net/video/_fq0DncxKiw/видео.html

he is the sole founder James said he just wanted to be in a band and saw the opportunity with Lars so Lars owns the brand/band name James Hetfield has said that here and there
Great song this is. So was Unforgiven II. But 'Unforgiven' is the closest to my heart. The first and the very best. The strongest Metallica song in my opinion. What a legacy it has created. No wonder even to this day Metallica have carried it on and have made 3 parts. They respect it as much v all Metallica fans do. \m/
Doesn't surprise me that Rick Rubin tried knocking the song off of the album and I can completely understand why James got defensive. It's so important. Especially to Hetfield.
The diddley James plays @1:29 - dies that exist anywhere? This has been in my head since the first time I heard it, which was 14 years ago and I love it so much. Never really see James solo, but when ya do, Lord have mercy.
Going to see Metallica live in Dublin on August 1st,cant wait its been my dream to see these guys for many year's and it's good to see with the new album that they can still create kick ass music.
Just goes to show that even the most amazing songs start from scratch. They're so amazing, still got it after so many years and they're fantastic live, they're so entertaining, they ALL still have plenty of soul, if they didn't they would'nt still be doing this and playing for millions of people every year!
Well many may think that they suck now but I've always idolized them, guitar playing and music writing, since I became a metalhead I'll always have there songs played before anything else

He is the greatest drummer
Your face isn’t the best drummer.
I'm not a fan of his production choices in the past but his musical arrangement gives me the chills man. He's so talented, yet underrated.
He is the best Drummer at what he does. Comparing musicians by "good" or "bad" is idiotic.

Rob goes, chills, plays a little with the guitars or bass and boom musical explosion.
After 14 years, are you still there?
I like how James always comes up with a wha-na-na melody before sticking in lyrics. That's the bestest way to write.
MrParkerman6 People usually come up with the melody before the lyrics
just realized that part sounds like 'creep' by STP
have to admire Lars direction and foresight towards song structuring and his work ethic towards making something small into a Metallica song. I admit i was one of those guys who shat on him for his ego and mannerisms but now i feel i am respecting his work in metallica
then you have to see the" making of" the harwired songs, since lars and james worked a lot(more) on that album
Lars IS Metallica. He founded it and got / stole the name :p He was always and still is the drive and force.
Well articulated, man.
Yeah, I wish he could come, pick in my "riffs" folder and make me build songs around those bastards.

True, valid

the way the solo comes in this song just rocks
