Triple Play is a favorite tradition here at Missouri Star Quilt Company. Once a month, Jenny, Misty, and Natalie each demonstrate their own unique spin on a favorite block, technique, or template. In this episode, the talented Doan ladies share three new projects made with the Periwinkle Templates and our brand new Periwinkle Leg Templates.
Misty's Periwinkle Squared quilt is a baby-size dream made with 5" precut charms, the Mini Periwinkle Template, and the Mini Periwinkle Leg Template. Her fabric is Besties by Tula Pink for FreeSpirit Fabrics.
Natalie's beautifully bold Periwinkle Party quilt commands attention with Tiny Beasts by Tula Pink for FreeSpirit Fabrics. This quilt is made with 10" layer cake squares, the Small Periwinkle Template, and the Small Periwinkle Leg Template.
Jenny's Double Periwinkle quilt was created by a Doan Girls Retreat guest who was inspired by Misty's Periwinkles Squared quilt. It is made with True Colors Neon 10" Squares
by Tula Pink for FreeSpirit Fabrics and the Small Periwinkle Template.

Now I need to order the periwinkle templates!! Quilting is one hobby, collecting fabric is a hobby by itself, and now collecting templates is beginning to become my third hobby!! Lol😂

This is the first triple play I have wanted to make all three. Misty’s is traditional, Natalie’s is a new technique and layout and Jenny’s has an awesome placement. Love that you all used Tula at the same time. So neat to see how different they can look.

We went to Hamilton on Tuesday. It was a beautiful day. All the shops were so nice and staff so helpful. It is a long day trip for us but granddaughter drove us. Happy time shared with her (she is not a quilter but loves seeing the happiness it brings to her mom and me). Her son and my hubby enjoyed the man cave. The 7 year old beat papa in pool. Love your tutorials. 🐥🐥
Want to go with my DIL. Shes not a quilter but she crochets. Know she would have a blast in the yarn shop. Maybe someday. It’s a VERY long day from their place near Dayton so we would have to make a 3-day trip out of it.

Ladies, you're having too much fun! Misty's background fabric is very pretty & love her design. Natalie's design is bold & new! But I have trouble sewing on so much black; thinking a dark gray would work for my background. Jenny's quilt, loving her light gray background, is very pretty. Yep, all three quilts are something I would attempt. Thank you ladies for an enjoyable Triple Play!

All three quilts are gorgeous, and all so different! I LOVE triple play time - I wish it were more often! On Jenny's quilt, if you took one quarter of each block, it sort of looks like a bird in flight...
Thank you ladies. I always enjoy the triple play tutorials. This time I nearly turned off the tutorial because the new leg template was required to make the quilts, but I'm glad I watched until the end. All three quilts were very pretty, but I enjoyed Jenny's the most. I appreciate that she didn't use the new leg template, instead showing another way to make a periwinkle quilt. I already own the periwinkle template, and the 5 x 5' ruler, (purchased from MSQC), so I'll be able to make her quilt without waiting for the new template. Thanks again ladies, you all always do a terrific job.

A tip on pressing small triangles by designer Sheila Christianson is to press seams open to make everything flatter.
If you did the center diamonds that come together in a contrasting color (on Jenny’s quilt, the double periwinkle) it would have a totally different look, it would look like a cross almost. Great uses of the periwinkle template

I can’t decide whether Jenni looks better or Natalie. Misty is always look good and always look the same although I’m glad she’s gotten rid of the little girl look and come into her own as a beautiful woman. Natalie, you are exquisitely beautiful and Jenny, I think you’ve always known how special, beautiful, entertaining, and confident you are.

So thankful for this video! I’m working on my summer strolls triple play and was sooooooo confused why things weren’t lining up!!! Makes so much more sense now. 🤦🏻♀️
Natalie’s design has sooooo many points (12) coming together that I can’t imagine how bulky that is on the back. I always press to one side and no matter how flat each seam is, when i sew all my HST together, the 4 HST coming together (with 8 points in the center) is just so thick 😩
Use really thin threads. Aurifil in top and bottomline in bobbin. With those 50 and 60 weight threads the thickness is amazingly reduced. This is my experience.

I love your triple plays. Each of you makes a quilt for all the different stage of quilting we are all at. Me I am an intermediate beginner. So most of the time if I make one of these, I choose Jenny version. But once in a while, I step out of my comfort zone and try one of the other girls pattern. I live for Fridays and get super excited for triple play Fridays 😊 thanks

Your girls rock, your quilts are fabulous, Jenny's ideas for the table runner, pillow front are great. Your triple play is very for appropriate on St Patrick's Day weekend, our three leaf Shamrock will be worn with pride on St Patrick's Day all over Ireland 🇮🇪 as we enjoy our parades in towns, villages and cities, we have 5 American bands playing in our Dublin parade, just praying for a dry day🎉

I felt inspired by the triple play today and I just happened to have a Tula Pink layer cake and fat 8th bundle in my stash. Having just purchased a periwinkle template, I have cut out my fabric to make Jenny’s quilt.

With a few more rows across, Misty’s quilt would be the perfect size for my quilt guild’s Charity - and I can use any type of fabrics as the charity never has any clue the ages of the children they will have when it comes time for us to make our donations (usually in October). Just had a thought - making just a pieced top and then cutting Christmas stockings from it would be really different, too!!!
In the past I had problems with corners and connecting binding ends together. Now my binding are perfect. Thank you for this video
