In the manga, there is a page where they ask tanjiro how hard his head is and one of the frames was his head being used as a chopping board with and actual knife. No blood was seen

Tanjiro uses headbutt so often and to such great affect, that I'm convinced it will be his finisher on Muzan Kibutsuchi whenever they finally get to that.

Dead Calm being the move that finally kills Rui is really impactful.
One thing you learn in an abusive environment is that if you let the abuser's anger get to you, they drag you down with them. Tanjiro made that mistake early on in the fight and it cost him. But Giyu kept his mind clear and focused on what he had to do, which allowed him to break through the angry red webs and finish the fight.

@@MahouShoujo-Studios I have read the manga too but I don't blab about it. I rather observe on people who are anime watchers or people who have read the manga but are still in the early stages. Spoiling would ruin the entire feel of the anime and manga and they won't feel the same feeling if I spoil shit.

I think he cut his neck using he red webs instead of the normal webs... Which means his red webs IS stronger than his neck while his normal web isnt
You might have mentioned that the mangaka was worried about how this fight would translate to the show only to cry tears of joy when she saw it.

I want to give bonus credit for how Demon Slayer's camera treats Nezuko. A "lesser" anime would pin her up like a centerfold, her costume sliced loose for bonus sexual fanservice, but no! Nezuko is our hero's dear sister, and everything the show does with its camera and costuming invokes that same "love and protect" energy instead of "ogle and bang" like a piece of meat. It makes me really happy that the series won't detract from its core themes for easy waifu money. And it results in Nezuko being one of the best top tier waifus/daughterus of all time.
Ikr. Nezuko is so much better of a character because she isn't a part of any fanservice in a conventional way. Instead of being hot, she is CUTE BEYOND ALL COMPREHENSION!

As someone who is named Rui and has never met anyone else named Rui, it feels extremely weird to see my name in the thumbnail. And I love it.
Rui is one of the most common names in Portugal, actually it is an old name here...xD
There's a youtuber/streamer that does Souls/Monster Hunter stuff named Rurikhan. His real name is Rui. He's Portuguese :P are you Portuguese? He's a pretty cool dude if you like that kinda gameplay. Games with his audience and is down to earth.

the lower moons were always weaker than the hashiras, which is why muzan had to kill them and switch them frequently

I love how subtle this show is in showing how kind, compassionate, and empathetic Tanjiro is. My favorite moment is how mid attack, he realizes Rui's mother welcomes her death in as an escape from her abuse, and switches his sword technique to provide her a painless passing.
Extending his hand to comfort Rui, even after what he's done, shows what an amazing person he is.
Those weren't very subtle examples, but I really enjoy that aspect of Tanjiro. Thankfully, his compassion doesn't stop him from killing demons.
Mudkid I mean, the show doesn't come off as super melodramatic about it, Tanjiro just does this things as they come naturally to him, and that makes those small moments even better.

His enthusiasm and optimism in some of the later arcs is just plain annoying and unbelievable. Its like he was slowly loosing his brain cells
Also my favorite moment out of all the spider-family arc. Truly beautiful. Calm mind also on pair with this one.

This was an amazing animation, but once you see the other parts of this manga get animated, hopefully by ufotable, in the movie and the next seasons, its truly going to be jaw dropping. Even more than this fight.

I wish you'd mentioned immediately after the fight when all loving tanjiro reprimanded Giyu for stepping on Rui's "corpse" (the clothes he leaves behind)
it's a really interesting moment in the context of the fight, seeing all that Rui put him and Nezuko through, and all the suffering he cause to his fake family , he still saw Rui deserving of the same treatment you'd give a human, respect for his life, and pity for his fall
I think he left it out for time and also for the fact that that's something that's more key to Tanjiro's character and not something that hinges on the fight itself. It's a scene that belongs more in a character study video on Tanjiro and his mindset. He actually did this with his "What's So Great About Demon Slayer?" video, I just don't think the episode was available when he made it though so he couldn't include the scene.

They used a mixture of vector based graphics and CG. Although i know a lot about 3D, it is hard for me to accurately pinpoint what and where was used. An amazing craftsmanship. Don't think that those things are an easy way out - they are mere tools in the hands of an artist.
As for the Animelee - Zenitsu VS Spider Son fight. By the way - having read manga, i can assure that there is so many more gorgeus fights ahead. A lot of them. Can't wait
They didn't use CG in episode 19
Which is why im waiting for a second season instead of reading the manga. Its worth it just to experience that story and animation for the first time in a great way.

Zeres my friend who is caught up with the manga, said that so far, the anime is a lot better. And he also said that I should be excited for some of the other battles as they are great.
This battle is one of the only pieces of animation that is so incredibly gorgeous it actually brings me to tears.

While we're on Demon Slayer, an Animelee on Zenitsu's fight earlier would be amazing. While overshadowed by how utterly amazing 19 and 20 were, his battle was no less amazing, and breathtakingly beautiful.

in terms of a total episode 19 was better, but in terms of the best individual display of power zenitsu takes the cake both in episode 12 and 17..MVP of season 1 IMO
@@OriginalGacole Zenitsu is probably my favorite of the three MCs when it comes to his fights, even in the future. Yeah, he only has one trick, and it's a trick that's utterly useless in a realistic sense, but damn it, it's so damn cool.
@@SilimSavertin if you read manga he definetly has more than one trick, everything about zenitsu is dope from the contrast of his personalities from weak when awak to badass when strong, his character design with the yellow hair and fit and the gold sword with the lighting bolt, to his extreme character development later on in the story, honestly he could easily be his own main character of his own anime

The thing is this kind of scene like episode 19 is the most cliche in anime "the mc is about to die BUT WAIT he suddenly have flashbacks" but the way they execute that cliche is the most beatiful ive seen so far
Cliches really get a bad rep in my opinion. Poorly done cliches are terrible. Not cliches in general. I wholeheartedly agree with you.
Demon Slayer as a whole is actually full of cliches: sad backstories, flashbacks, overpowered characters/fights/abilities, dumb humour to lighten up the mood, to name a few. But they are done right, so they are still enjoyable!
I think some cliches are just impossible to skip over because they're imbedded in reality. At the end of someone's life they're almost always going to look back on the life they've had.

No matter how much I see this scene, it is still just as great as the first time. Probably one of the best animated/colored/directed scenes in an anime I've seen in quite a few years and really made me enjoy this anime. Not only that, but the sound design was perfect and gave extra weight/emotion to every action. Hope they continue to put this much effort into future works in the series.

fate stay night heavens feel 2nd movie (made by same studio) is the best fight I've seen so far. u should check that out truly a treat for the eyes. this comes 2nd for best fight this year imo.

@@filipe2338 UFOtable has always had amazing music & soundtrack in their anime fights. UFOtable's digital team is extremely talented they do those CGI/effects outside of animation & merge them with animation very well. in fate there is also character development when it's needed. shirou vs archer in fate/stay night unlimited blade works, was one of the most character development I've seen in a fight. demon slayer got itself a studio that'll make it big for sure. episode 19 was trending worldwide on twitter. we can hope much in the future. but yah I suggest u check fate series out ;) fate/zero is my personal 2nd fav anime & its main focus isn't even the fights.the anime is abt clashs of ideologies to put in short.

I really liked how much of a good, smart and mature boy Tanjiro is. But for some reason, in the Swordsmith Village arc and the Hashira Training arc he was written as a generic paragon superhero type character. Am I the only one who is bothered with the way he was written in those arcs? At least he went back to his normal self afterwards

Rumble Lane those arcs seemed very rushed to me! But the hashira training ark was more like him the way he stood up for genya and he was so worried about Giyuu, just because of his kindness then proceeding to not be mad at the wind pillar even though he has reasons to hate him, that is just like Tanjiro. Also one little detail that I absolutely love in this arc is how when tanjirou goes to the pillars he already knows they are so happy to see him and treat him like their son😫😫

One of the most beautiful fights I've ever seen. It's not super hype like the ToP finale in Dragon Ball Super or All for One vs All Might; this one is different. It's absolutely breathtaking.

afo vs all might fight wasnt super hype,i mean it was hype fight and it ended perfectly,demon slayer fight was also amazing,but ive seen a lot of people hyped it because of the animation,it isnt all about animation tho but the fight was good.
I mean, it is super hype in its own way. Sure they aren't blasting buildings or lighting up an infinite dimension but what they did was amazing and I personally love this more than those fights!
I always thought friendship or family always wins is pretty bs because like in this video stated it’s just them thinking about their friend or family and they just win. But yeah demon slayer isn’t like that which it’s great
Just you wait, when the time comes for the movie and maybe a season 2, the time will come for the sadness to kick in a season 3.
Consistancy and clarity are the key here I think. Tanjirou is constantly pulling "power" from his family bonds. Not just in big fights where he needs a boost to survive. The show does a good job imo of actively portraying our MC as a boy whose family is always at the forefront pushing him forward even in small ways whether it's to train or keep walking to a destination. So when he draws on this strength to overcome an obstacle like Rui its feels pretty natural and not so much genre convention. This is true for Nezuko as well.

Holy shit, after seeing this go down TWICE I'm glad I finally got to it. Seeing this fight first in manga form and then how far the team took it when animating, it was amazing to put it lightly.
I like that, when Tanjiro is yelling at Rui about his B.S. and the whole “let me have Nezuko” thing, he’s so angry his face ends up resembling the angry Hashira (who’s name I’ve forgotten) that stabbed Nezuko

Every time I see this scene I end up crying. Not because it's sad because it's just so beautiful that it's overwhelming. To me this belongs in a museum somewhere right along likes the Mona Lisa or The Last Supper. Anime has been an art form but I don't think we've ever had something quite like this before and I hope it goes down remembered as one of the great moments in this medium's history. Even just watching this synopsis and examination of a fight still moved me to tears from beautiful the art is and how emotionally moving it as a piece and that says something when even the analysis can cause tears.
I hope it's next to Naruto X Sasuke vs Momoshiki It reminds everyone that amazing animation, unique choreography and fast spaced strategy without someone explaining every move can be just as good if not better than fights that need drama to back them up.

Just think of how "okay" this would be if some mediocre studio did this. I'm so grateful that ufotable animated this, makes me feel better after having seen the disaster that is OPM S2.
It basically show how average this show is without it animation.opm s2 is still good despite the lack of great animation
I mean, just look at Zenitsu's attack from earlier in the arc. If you've seen the manga panels for it you'd know that they're... alright. They're not bad by any means, but they're nothing compared to the visual feast that moment became in the anime.

The manga version is OK.
In fact the manga is merely OK. The author has a good idea and has done a good job, but for the most part either the fight is difficult to fully comprehend, or the scenes are over quick(Due to needing to fit into a certain amount of pages/panels).
That's why UFOTable is right now the #1 best studio, because it took an OK manga and elevated into a Great Anime.

Right? But it still didn’t lessen the big leap they made. They bought enough time for Giyuu to arrive. Plus, the fact that Rui had to resort to self-decapitation shows how close they came.
Yeah people downplay episode 19 because they didn't kill Rui while ignoring that Nezuko and Tanjiro would be beyond dead if that incredible fight scene hadn't happened.
Actually, they did beat him by gaining time and putting his back against the wall. In a strength comparison, they didn't stand a chance which is why they "lost". But I agree it was a huge plot twist.

@@KusogakiRenfir UBW had good animation but its directing was poor, and contradicted a lot of what made the source material good. Tanjiro vs Rui is basically Shirou vs Gil done right.

@@flockinify Yeah I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks this. Shiro v Gil was so underwhelming. Cu v Archer was the best fight of UBW by far when it should have been one of the least interesting since it wasn't really a real fight to the death.

Zenitsu vs Kaigaku is what i'm looking forward to the most (since Zenitsu is my fav char). But every major fight from now on shits on Rui vs Tanjiro. If everything gets adapted by Ufotable it will be the most glorious thing known to mankind
The musical scores for "Demon Slayer" are so beautiful and perfect
this fight really broke my expectations, i had read it in the manga and it was so awesome but the anime took it to another level. the animation was literally jaw dropping and it was enough to rank it as my new favorite anime after holding the same anime as my favorite for 6+ years...and the interesting thing is as this series has barely even begun. i am so excited to see what the movie has to offer and i am beyond ready to see kokushibou's fight. i hope demon slayer can continue giving us this breathtaking animation and expanding on the already beautiful story line. in my book this series truly is and will be a masterpiece.
Top tier analysis. REALLY well put together, especially pointing out the smallest of details like Nezuko's clenching fingers after she was first slashed. This is why I come to your channel, and thank you for giving me more reasons to enjoy this fight. XD

When tanjiro holds rui’s back as he slowly dies and we see rui’s parents happy to hold onto him and forgiving him even though he had killed them really hit me hard. Beautiful animation and a beautiful story.

11:20 It also explains why the demons almost always have flashbacks right before dying, because they too are searching their memories to find some way to survive, and while it seems to fail to save them, it causes them to remember their lives before they became demons and allows them to regain their humanity in the end.

My guess is that he used the blood from his neck to make his strings stronger, after letting Tanjiro's blade get about a quarter-way into his neck to make things easier.
The art is awesome, but im glad you highlighted how good the writing is. Tanjiro resonates so much because he isnt out to be the "strongest" or "leader". He is and has remained devoted to saving his friends and family. The show also doesn't do ass pulls, which is why giyu coming in makes sense.
Even watching the scene broken down brings a tear to my eyes. this fight was something so special

My mouth was legit gaping the first time I watched this fight. Everything is working in concert to make this fight work. Animation, sound, writing, voice acting. So many brilliant people working perfectly together to make something that reaches and surpasses a peak of it’s medium.
I’ve rewatching demon slayer rn , the fact that they used the song throughout they entire series just in different forms is amazing

My favorite part of the fight is that desperate scream Tanjiro lets out as he rushes Rui.
The heart in this show is so amazing. I was still surprised how even this rewatch made me cry.
If they animate the rest of the manga, the Sakuga will need to escalate or they will need filler.
The density of heavy fights vs. the kizuki just gets so damn high. But I guess there is an example of something like that being executed very well: The climax of the chimera ant arc in HxH.

Great analysis. The combination of character development, plot development, the power of love as you demonstrated and the jaw-dropping animation really created an instant classic. They built some things up and then delivered it all in one second. It's really the best anime out there for a reason.

I’d really like to see you dissect the final Spike V. Viscous fight scene in Cowboy Bebop. There is so much thought provoking calculation and well developed tension in that very briefly choreographed melee- leading up to one of the most melancholic moments in anime history at the bittersweet end.
Even years after it's come out, the climax of this episode is still one of my favourite moments in anime period
Somehow you made me tear up again despite the fact that this fight already made me emotional the first time. The part where Rui's body walks toward Tanjiro as he dies killed me the first time, and seeing it again with your narration telling us about how much he wanted a love like that, and that it'll be the last thing he'll see got a tear out of me, so well done.

This fight scene will always make me cry, man. Its so beautiful and poetic, it makes you hold your breath despite you know whats going to happen, it reminds me of the value of family, blood and chosen, and how valuable they can be in your greatest time of need. Plus, as an animation geek (i wanted to be an animator for the longest time), the artistry alone is enough to bring tears to my eyes. Its so fucking beautiful with and without the family bonds. Its by far one of my favorite scenes in all of anime
I've been looking forward to this video for so long, this fight is definitely in my top 3 favorites. Great job analyzing it man
Naruto X Sasuke vs Momoshiki: It reminds everyone that amazing animation, unique choreography and fast spaced strategy without someone explaining every move can be just as good if not better than fights that need drama to back them up.

I have shed tears from sad moments in anime but from the emotional weight, beautiful animation and music of a fight scene this is only the second time it's ever happened. The first being Gohan snapping into SSJ2 against Cell. That's quite a large gap in time between the two and I appreciate Demon Slayer so much for finally making me feel that way again.

I remember crying so much through the fight scene and especially Rui's story. It moved me so much and at the end when his parents said they would go to hell with him and Tanjiro's act of kindness for Rui by placing his hand on him.... I lost it, and watching your video brings back all those emotions I felt and I'm crying all over again 😭😭😭 it's just soo well done

Its also fairly cool to see that Tanjiros style changes quite drastically under the New breathing technique. Becoming very agressive.

I don’t think I am alone on this, but every time I see this episode I can’t help but to tear and choke up. There really is beautiful, story and meaning behind every frame of the fight. I don’t think I will ever see a better fight in terms of shows or anime or any entertainment.
You kinda glanced over it with a clip in this episode, but I'd love to see you analyze Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood's fight versus Homunculus (AKA Father). I feel that fight takes many of the things built up over the entirety of the series and really pushes them forward. From Hohenheim's usage of the souls that make up his immortal body, to Al sacrificing his life to give Edward back his arm that was used as payment to bind his soul to the armor. Every beat of that fight has some connection to something that was built up throughout the Elric brothers' journey, and the aftermath wraps it up beautifully.
That of course is just the themes of the fight, and not the animation used to illustrate it on the screen. That is what I'm looking forward to seeing from you. If it holds up to its theme and weight, or if the animation can't support such weight and is crushed.

This statement sounds extreme at first but when its context is considered, you realise that it's the truth. Love emboldens a person, makes them strong mentally, pushes them in the back when they need it, because you care about the person you're doing all this for. Under the most extreme of conditions, the truth of this aspect of love is obviously proven. It's wonderful and something to be envious of. Not everyone possesses this kind of love that would lasts and be the reason you can last even under extremely tough conditions.
When I say I have never replayed an action fight scene in any anime I am not exaggerating when I say I replayed this particular scene 3 times because i busted out crying too hard the first and second time
