I’ve been using spray Gorilla Glue and have had very few problems with great results. I have to be careful to let each layer dry, ie. spray paint, glue/glitter, clear coat, and then epoxy, but it makes things much easier.
I’ve used both! But like you I’ve come to realize that I just don’t have much time when using modpodge I also was terrible at cleaning out my brushes 🤦🏼♀️ so I mostly always use epoxy method!
Good information, especially for beginners. I started out using MP, (swore I would never switch) a year later I tried epoxy and have never looked back lol. XO Melissa
What a great video! Super helpful information. I appreciate how thorough you explain and show things in all your videos! I’ve learned so much from you over the last year or so. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. 🥰
This is a great vid, and I have to say as a newbie I tend to come back to your vids the most. Very helpful! I did want to ask though when you were not going to seal the glitter before applying the epoxy as the end, what did you mean by sealing the glitter and what do you use to seal it with? Thanks for any feedback.
Thank you so much for watching my videos! I’m so happy to help. By “sealing” I mean spraying it with a clear spray paint to hold everything in place before epoxy. Glitter tends to travel around when we spread that first layer of epoxy on so sealing just keeps it still. Sometimes I’ll use a water based urethane sealer instead of the spray
Your videos are the best Jessica. You have been my go to girl anytime I need to do research for tumblers and techniques. I also made the cutest bow with the bubblegum beads. Awesome job, I do epoxy but will be doing a mod podge just for fun. You always look so beautiful!!
What was the tumblr turner supplies you used? I caught you got them from a store on Etsy, but didnt see the link in the description. Thanks! I have been wanting to invest in one and have been looking around.
Hey I know this was posted over a year ago, but if you were going to seal the glitter before applying a clear transfer vinyl how would you do that? Thank you for sharing, I love your tutorials!! ❤
Excelent video and explanation, like all your other videos. Could We add acrylic paint to MP To use it as glitter adhesive and color the cup at the same time. If so do you recommend this technique?? Thank you for your tutorials I’ve learned so much from you 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I just tried one last night using JUST acrylic paint, immediately applied (fine) glitter. I let it dry several hours,, then applied a coat of acrylic spray and let sit overnight. Epoxied today and it's on my turner now.. so far, so good!
Hi! I've been trying to watch all your videos, I'm a total newbie so you make things so easy to understand and you make such beautiful tumblers. I do have a question though. I really enjoy sublimation, however, if i plan on sublimating on my sub tumbler and then glitter do i need to sand the whole tumbler BEFORE sublimation? I'm really confused on that part. Any tip regarding this helps. Also I see people say to sand after epoxy, that blows my mind because in my head, that would ruin my tumbler? Thanks for your time. Now back to your videos i go.
You dont HAVE to seal before the next coat of epoxy but if you're using a chunky glitter, i highly recommend it so your epoxy sits on top of the glitter instead of seeping below it. Even with fine glitter, clear sealing it first helps give you a smoother first coat of epoxy.
Thanks!!! I really appreciate you replying so fast. Hope you have a great Sunday. I will go ahead and seal it to be safe. It’s my first GST shattered glass on a tumbler so I don’t want all that work to go to waste.
You can use acrylic paint. The coverage isn't as good/consistent so you dont want to use it under an opal or iridescent glitter because any inconsistency in the paint base below will show through.
Thank you for this. I've been learning epoxy and was thinking to try Mod podge soon just so I can see what I like best. I got the spray adhesive and spray sealer , do those work the same as the liquid? (Sorry if that's a "nonsmart" question, but I'm truly curious.
Spray adhesive give you a tacky surface. It works for fine glitter but chunky glitter wont be able to lay flat with the sprsy adhesive. A spray sealer just seals down your glitter before epoxy. It isnt used to apply the glitter.
Thank you Jessica, great information! So you were using the Mod Podge only as a glue to apply the glitter, but epoxy over the complete cup. Did you ever try to use Mod Podge as a sealer, instead of epoxy? i.e. the Dishwasher Safe or the Hard Coat
That’s correct. I prefer epoxy since it’s a longer lasting more durable finish. I like the shine and I’m able to apply decals over the glitter and more
No these tumblers aren’t dishwasher safe. I think in this video I used Alumilite. I sell my own epoxy now and it will be restocked in early December. Flynnsisterssupplyshop.com
Try to take some of the sticky off your tape next time and prep before you paint with sanding and cleaning the steel. Thin consistent coats of paint will help it to bond better as well
The issue I had when I used epoxy to apply glitter is- I could only do one layer of glitter. For instance I tried to apply chunky over fine and the chunky just fell off. Then the glitter moved and mixed when applying epoxy. So tips?
When using chunky glitter and the epoxy method I always use more epoxy than I normally would. I also use more than normal when using more than one glitter color. Using more epoxy also helps the chunky glitter lay flat on its own without having to pat it down. As far as the glitter moving when epoxying, make sure to seal your glitter when your adhesive epoxy is cured but before your first layer of epoxy over the glitter. I use Krylon Triple Thick to seal my glitter but you can also use any other clear spray paint. Some other alternatives include Polycrylic (liquid and spray both work), CCDIY Quick Coat, Mod Podge (liquid and spray both work). What you use is all about preference. You just need to make sure the glitter is sealed so you don't have movement. I know my glitter is sealed enough when I can rub my hand over my glitter and none comes off. Sealing also helps prevent repelling of the epoxy over chunky glitter and microbubbles. Hope that helps!
I made a wood grain tumbler and let it dry. I put resin over it and put it on the turner. I went to check on it and all the resin separated. What happened?
I spent a while looking for answers on this. I could find nothing on Google, youtube, reddit etc... This is so helpful!
I am so glad 😊
So glad to see you taking precautions and use PPE!!!
Thank you Jessica for such a thorough explanation.
I was *literally* just searching for an epoxy vs MP comparison video. Thank you for doing this!
The timining! 😆 Thanks for watching April!!
I want to say you so much I'm new to tumblers and I mess up and you helped me stripp my cup so easy the way you show, againa thank you
Happy to help! Thank you ☺️

The boan llc on etsy
Thanks for sharing!! I always enjoy learning new ways and techniques
thank you!
I love your videos you get straight to the point and keep it short. Thank you for typing what the dish soap was for the mod podge. 😂
Thank you!
glad there new video to see the both side, i try both was for practing
Hey thanks for the video! Do you have the link for the cup arm from Etsy? thank you
The etsy shop I purchased from is currently closed for business with no ets for reopening. They are the boan llc.
Hey I know this was posted over a year ago, but if you were going to seal the glitter before applying a clear transfer vinyl how would you do that? Thank you for sharing, I love your tutorials!! ❤
I wouldnt apply any type of vinyl to a tumbler until it has a smooth coat of epoxy. Any bumps with show under the vinyl.
Very helpful, thanks for sharing. I noticed you used flat white spray paint, can glossy be used?
Yeah it just takes longer to dry
@@FlynnSistersBoutique ok, thank you!

You can! You just dont to add too much acrylic paint because it can get gummy if you over do it.

Welcome to the tumbler community! I am sorry but I am not able to answer your question because I do not sublimate tumblers.
@ Michelle: You do not sand your tumbler before sublimation. Sanding is done after your epoxy layering.
Just tried the epoxy method last night and so far I love it. I do have a question tho do I need to seal before going in with the second coat of epoxy?
You dont HAVE to seal before the next coat of epoxy but if you're using a chunky glitter, i highly recommend it so your epoxy sits on top of the glitter instead of seeping below it. Even with fine glitter, clear sealing it first helps give you a smoother first coat of epoxy.

Silly question since I did the epoxy method do I need do brush off access or just go straight in with sealing?
Thank you for the comparison!
Wow you really sale it all♥️😃
🙂
Thanks so much for this video! I've tried both and prefer epoxy.
My pleasure. Thanks for watching!!
Epoxy looks scary😳 I got some for Christmas,but now I'm like👀
Its not! You can only learn if you open the bottles 😃
@@FlynnSistersBoutique imma practice with it. Fingers 🤞
Thank you for the wonderful tutorial
You're welcome! Thank you for watching!
does it have to be spray paint? can you use those little aryclic paints you find at Walmart or hobby lobby?
You can use acrylic paint. The coverage isn't as good/consistent so you dont want to use it under an opal or iridescent glitter because any inconsistency in the paint base below will show through.

Would you do this the same way if your planning on adding a waterslide or decal at the end ?
Yes. The method you use for glitter application wouldnt make a difference

Hi Jessica! Could you use tack it to do an ombré? I feel like it stays tacky longer than the mod podge.
I could try but I usually just use epoxy for my ombres since it has the best adhesion and longer working time
So what kind of ventilation system do you have and where do you do your cups!
I use an organic vapor respirator mask and organic filters. The one I use is linked in the description box. I epoxy my cups in my garage.
When you do the epoxy method, does it need to spin on a turner or can it just hang?
Hang to dry your glitter is fine
can you do the mod podge method but still seal w/ alumilite crystal clear plus at the end?
Yes. You can.
@@FlynnSistersBoutique thank you!
How long do you let the paint to dry?
Just until it was dry to the touch. About 20 mins
What was the epoxy and is it dishwasher safe?

like one or the other? no not really
