I just subscribed to your channel yesterday and as a new tier, I really enjoyed this video. I’ve been wanting to try and make some videos for us beginners but I’m not so sure that I’ll mislead folks on how to properly tie a fly. I’ve only tied four flies but they turned out really well. Other than it took me well over an hour to tie a Copper John for example. Maybe I should hone my skills better before moving on to making videos with no even knowing how to edit. Anyway, keep up your excellent videos, I especially enjoy all your Catskill Fly patterns.

This is so interesting I had no idea either what is required to produce a good video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge Nick.
I like your videos so keep them coming.👍

Hi Nick, I really enjoy your videos and can tell how much work goes into them. Out of all the tying channels I watch, your authentic personality shines through, and I find myself being like, I want to hang out with this guy! So thank you.
My interest is in starting with “reel” like videos that are silent and more sped up. I really like how Barry Ord Clark shoots from his side of the bench with a background where you have your camera. I have always wondered how his camera is not completely in his way while tying?
    Any suggestions?
On another note, I have noticed with the much better mic, I can hear more mouth noise. I can hear this in other peoples videos who have high end set ups. I wonder if that jump in quality is always worth it when you hear a tongue pull off a dry roof of a mouth? LOL (That was not hate BTW, just an observation)
Thank you again, this video was full of great explanations of things I have been wondering about! Thank you!

Hey Lucas, thanks for the compliments. So on Barry doing videos from the front, it’s nice for sure, but I don’t think it’s worth the hassle in my opinion. On mic setup, the reason to upgrade the mic is to remove hiss and background noise. More mouth noises isn’t the mics fault it’s the operators. I and others should be more conscious of that. I guess the issue is to be natural and not a robot, sometimes these things happen. You could of course edit those sounds out if you wanted. The question of “worth it” is real important and you need to figure out how crazy you want to get. I would start and fix issues as they annoy you. Good luck Lucas.

@@NickMango well nothing you are doing is annoying in any way! Thank you again! As I dive into salmon fly tying I have been coming back to your channel more and more as your teaching style really works for me!

Hey Nick, Nice video! Congrats on the baby too! I miss you and Sam. Can't wait to visit the Catskills when it is safe to socialize in person again.
I may have missed this in the video, but, what lens are you using on your new Sony A7c and what is the new minimum focusing distance?
I have an old Nikon APSC (1.5 crop factor) DSLR and a bunch of old Nikkor lenses. I'm thinking about getting a mirrorless body and an FTZ adaptor to allow me to shoot video and photos with my 60mm f2.8 Macro lens (I have a bunch of macro extension tubes and filters too). I'm pretty sure I can get better than 1:1 magnification on a full frame sensor with the gear I already own.
I've also been considering ditching all my old Nikon stuff and going with Sony or Canon body and lens as they seem to have the edge when it comes to autofocus and video over Nikon. Any thoughts?

Hey Jeff! Yeah I’m just using the kit lens 28-60 @4-5.4. So it’s a super cheap one. Focal distance is 12” I think. But I’m using a magnifying filter. You shouldn’t have an issue using your camera. Pick up a 4x filter and I bet you’ll be perfect. Good luck 👍
