Jason, have you been able to get the a6400 to work with CamLink? I've tried mine with the following settings: File Format: XAVC S HD Record Setting: 60p 50M HDMI Settings: HDMI Resolution: 1080p Output: 60p HDMI Info. Display: OFF CTRL FOR HDMI: OFF Then I have the Mode Dial on the camera turned to either "AUTO" or the Video icon. Also, I have the camera on and both the usb power and micro-hdmi to hdmi running from the camera to the Camlink4k that is plugged into a usb 3.0 port. I've already verified the CamLink to work when I plug a game console with hdmi into it. My suspicions are either 1.) the settings I have are wrong, or 1.) My micro-hdmi to hdmi cable is bad. I'm waiting on a new micro-hdmi to hdmi cable to show up to test out #2. Perhaps you can help me figure out whether my settings are correct and whether you've had success connecting this to camlink.
Thanks so much for taking the time in the FB group today for the A7iii overheating Jason. I really appreciated it. Can't wait to properly use it for my channel rather than for tedious (paying) clients. 😂 I've watched you for ages and thought I was already subbed due to the amount of recommendeds of your vids in my feed. Anyway, that's been rectified now. Thanks again. 👍🏻
Thanks so much for all of this! I'm definitely going to check out your accessories recommendations since in addition to upgrading from a6000 body I'm looking to take some other things up a notch as well. 👍
Jason, I'm a 72 year old guy from central Texas USA, and I want to thank you for the best A6400 "new user" guide I've found anywhere on the internet. All of your videos are direct, well-organized, visually and verbally clear, and mindful that some of us are not lifelong photographers or instantly handy with gadgets. Thank you, young feller!
I read this comment at the very start of the video (never seen Jason's videos before) and thought "pff, this is overrated". 10 seconds later I'm jumping off the couch to get the camera, rewinding and rewatching, going through my settings... Wow! You were so freaking right my man :) amazing explanation
I have never been more excited to watch a 41 minute video on RUclips, knowing it will take me a good 6 months to really go through and learn as a complete newbie to photography and videography. I bought this camera after your review, and also many of the must-have accessories, and I also waited more than a month to even open my camera just so I can sit through this particular video. As a newbie, I feel empowered and I am truly excited to learn. You have eliminated so much anxiety for me because of your guidance! If I am just patient enough to learn, take it day by day, look up some definitions, explore those definitions, and play around with my camera I believe I can truly be so far ahead by this time next year in a way I never imagined--- actually a way, I am now imagining because I believe it. Thank you so much Jason!

I was losing my mind wondering if I got a messed up used camera and cursing myself for not buying brand new. This gave me a whopping sigh of relieve but I do wish he’s pointed this out like 25 min earlier when I was in crisis mode😂 Super helpful and thorough tutorial! I’m so glad to have had someone walk me through this scary ass setup.
I have been shooting exclusively on film for about 2 years with a Pentax k1000. The only thing that is not manual on that camera is the light meter. Just bought the a6400 to start doing video. You are a life saver.
Any newbie in the world of Sony Cameras needs to watch this very informative and concise tutorial. You just saved me a lot of time wrestling with my camera!
I just got this camera because I felt like I was ready to learn more/up my game but lmao i'm so overwhelmed with the amount of settings and features in this thing. 😂 This video is really helpful and I appreciate that you took the time to clearly explain what each setting/feature means, so thanks! :D

Jason, if the 6400 has Display Monitor “For Viewfinder” - at about 21:48 min in vid - like other Alpha cams, here’s a seldom mentioned gem. This display (all settings data, no image) is a menu hiding in plain sight. With this display on the monitor press the Fn key - you can now select a setting, navigate and change the setting, like a menu. The display is not just static info (except for leveler and exp. meters). Seldom mentioned in YT, even by the Sony agents.
Hey my friend. Am in Japan and bought the Japanese version of this camera without realizing I couldn't change it to English. This video just saved me! Thank you so much!!
Best walkthrough yet for a beginner on RUclips! Thanks sm Jason! I watched 5 other videos from 5 different people bcoz they had shorter videos, but they were difficult to understand and I should have just watched this one instead!

I've been struggling with my new A6400 for almost a month and was planning to sell it since I thought that camera's like DSLR/Mirrorless are just click and go like smartphones. I've been watching some youtube videos (not to say something bad about them) but their contents are really hard to understand. Your video keeps suggesting by youtube but it's a 40mins so I guess it's so tiring to watch since I prefer short videos only. So I tried watching your video and finished it. Now I would like to say thank you because I feel so knowledgeable now about the functions of the camera and the it's very easy now to navigate. Sorry for the long comment I am just happy and thankful that I have watched your videos. Please keep creating a helpful content and I will continue to support you. But first let me hit the subscribe button 😂. Again, Thank you so much! More subscribers and viewers for you! Cheers! 🍻
Finally got through the whole thing (camera in hand) THANK YOU so much for this video! Looking forward to my first video shoot with this camera tomorrow.
Got my camera on the 28, I have not opened the box. I have been waiting on your video. Thanks Dude! The info in this tutorial is gold, you could have charged but you put it here for your subscribers!!!!
Thank you so much for this video Jason! The Sony A6400 is my first mirrorless camera and wow this was a HUGE help to not only learn the different controls but also what these settings mean! Great video!
Thank you for your video. It helped me greatly. I received my a6400 today after researching cameras for a year, it’s my first camera purchase. You gained a new follower in me.
Watched this when thinking about buying the camera - ok yeah this doesn’t seem that hard. Get the camera and start going through the menus - “I NEED JASON VONG’S VIDEO RIGHT NOW “
I'm afraid to take it out of the box! I am overwhelmed by all your wonderful info. Breath V, now walk to the kitchen and open the Sony a6400, I have been a Canon user for 20+ years.
Hi Jason. Thanks for putting up this video. Just a question though, when you created those Quick Function Settings for Photo, Video & Hybrid, how did you lock/save them into their each individual mode?
Jason! I’m new to this channel and I’m deciding to switch to the Sony a6400 from the Canon 70D after nearly a decade. This video, though I know it may have been exhausting to shoot, is EXTREMELY HELPFUL! Thank you for this complete breakdown. I know where to come when I get my new camera.
Thank you for the great content! One question: my a6400 offers different fps choices than yours. Instead of 24, 60 and 120, it shows 25, 50 and 100. How can switch to your configuration?
Thanks for the video! I am setting here setting my camera right now. I have a question about the Function menu set. I set up the one for Photos how to I save those settings? To be able to create the setting for video and then hybrid, thanks in advance!
Got it last night, freaked out a little and never unboxed it because I am a Canon girl. Finally opened it this afternoon, battery is 99% dead so charging it right now and gives me extra time to watch this awesome video you made for us! Thank you! ♥️💋💃🏻👍🏼
19:37 mark is very helpful. My Montreal Jazz Fest audio with the built in mic was far superior to using two types of external ones. Unfortunately, in the a6500 menu, this option is not available.
Jason... So I Just got my A6400 a couple weeks ago and used your/this video to set up the camera. My first time through I was following you, but a bit lost as I wasn't familiar with the Sony menu protocal. Two weeks later it's all making sense. Although I have to say there's no better learning process than just doing. I'm now going back to your video to tweak some basic video recording settings. Wanted to let other newbies know that if you felt lost the first time through this video, it's understandable. After I just started shooting review videos for a couple weeks, when I wanted to do something new or better, going back to this video definitely both helped and was easier the second+ time/s around. Thanks Jason... wish you were my neighbor. Doubt you'd get used to my interruptions for advice...... watched this for probably the fifth time now first before i got the camera, to know what im getting into then when i got it, to have a good starting point (a few times after that, just for small things) and now again, since im much more familiar with the camera finally got into some of the deeper settings and feel like i made the best of it (for my current state) honestly, huge thanks this has been incredibly helpful
Just got my A6400. Im not new to the Sony ecosystem, but this video helped me out a lot with some details I wanted to setup. Specially for quick settings and stuff. Thanks Jason, keep up the good work!
Dude this is a great setup guide. I went through the whole process with my new a6400. Thanks. I also did an unboxing and small review on my new channel. Come have a look :)
Watched this video and got so overwhelmed because Its the first time I really explored all the menu options. Still this is such a helpful video now I just gotta watch this 5 more times so I can truly understand lol
I just got my Sony A6400 and immediately found this video, first hurdle was the PAL 24p / NTSC 30p in 4k options, changed to NTSC and all sorted. Will follow the rest, thanks alot!
Hey I just bought this camera yesterday and I had no idea how to use it. Thank you this is the best informational video. I am ready to start recording.
A real new beginner, like me, needs this step-by-step manual. what's more, it makes me better understand how to use those functions! BEST EVER! Thank you so much, Jason!
Mr Jason, I am new in this field. I am learning a lot from you at high speed, and soon will be a professional. Thank you. No camera in hand yet though.

This video is so awesome.. it’s so handy to me as I just got my @6400 yesterday.. thank you very much for sharing and I will be very busy viewing all your tutorials ... 🙏🙏🙏
I went through with Jason through all the menus. At the end 20% of battery was remaining :) Not sure we needed to go through everything but would be cool to explain different dial settings and what they do.
This was literally so helpful!!! I’m def over processing I just got my camera 1 hour ago. But I don’t care!! I’m gonna be a pro with this one!! Thank you for taking the time to go through this insane menu and explaining it to kooks like us!! Your delirium in the middle was also amusing. 😁
Wow Jason!! Thanks for taking us up Mt. Everest and back down again! Whew!! I never would have gotten through all of these settings if it weren't for YOU! Thank you for all of your incredible work to put this video together. You rock.
