I solved the whole issue by having two partitions. Manjaro (Linux) for everyday compute, and Windows 10 for legacy Reverb G2 support. I just reboot the system whenever I want to play in VR. To be fair, I'm having a REALLY hard time justifying an upgrade. The reason being that so far, most headsets are too expensive, or feel more or less like "sidegrades" rather than true "upgrades". The Reverb G2 is a great overall package, still offering great visuals, great audio, and it's very simple to setup. After I bought a custom facial interface (VRenergetic) it massively improved sweet spot and fov.
Planned obsolescence is one thing:
Being smacked across the face with the Reverb G2 that I spent a thousand Aussie dollars on-not to mention replacement controllers, cables etc....
Is another thing altogether.

You can also use Win 11 23H2 and keep it there, you should have critical updates till november 2026 so thats an extra 2 years of life to find a proper replacement
@@KodaiRyu i don’t think they can remove it from w10. There would be law suits. They sold a product with a promised 10 years support on msfs2020. They will keep the components on w10 but they won’t be updated. But anyway for me MShit is out. I won’t buy their fs2024 like i bought the deluxe in 2020. Now i am done. I will also be sure to never buy any hardware from them like surface laptop or mouse or keyboard…nada !
Use Group Policy Editor to either stop all automatic updates or set it to specifically target 23H2. I'm keeping G2 compatibility until I'm 100% happy with my Aero.
I did this, thinking I'd ride the G2 for a year longer. Then the PCL came out and Steve's review convinced me I should upgrade now in prep for MSFS 2024. With the PCL in hand and working well, I've moved on and will let 24H2 install (eventually). 🙂

Irrespective, and what's more important, is why Steve, here, didn't remind viewers that there are very easy methods to STOP Windows 11 from updating to 24H2. No, instead he declares loudly "G2 : Dead". That, shows true colours ;)
@@ChrisM541 Actually HP showed its true colors when it removed the G2 from its HP Store (with no new replacement product) and Microsoft announced the dissolution of its WMR team and the future removal of WMR from Windows. I decided to cut bait and move on. It was never a matter of IF; just a matter of WHEN. Pimax Crystal Light was the logical alternative, given my current PC specs, and the timing was right given the imminent release of MSFS2024.

@@ViszysClips my samsung odyssey oled gen 1 works as a charm as well. I have dual 1440x1600 instead of 2160x2160 on the reverb g2 but the pixel structure is very fine. The image are fantastic with the oled panel, especially in dark scenes but day scene are nice too, and with only 4,6 millions pixel , my ryzen 1800x and nvidia 1080ti runs fs2020 very well without any add on like auto fps ( i didn’t test it yet)
exactly the same as you . i bought a new heaset PICO 4 , its brillant but when i went back to the g2 reverb i was like wow i miss this. Will be using this brick till its dead.
Tbh G2 weak point was fresnel lenses; that was the cause of the small sweet spot and the visible concentric circles that ruined the visual of its amazing panels. That's the only thing that makes the visual quality lower than the Crystal, because in terms of resolution, really noticeable, G2 is so maginally less that real visuals are on par. I had a Crystal Light (had to return it due to severe bad tracking that made it unusable) and already have a regular Crystal, and due to its (many) hadware and software issues I alternatively use both headsets so really can appreciate the differences. As I said, in terms of resolution on G2 barely could note any visual downgrade if it weren't because of the fresnel lenses; on absolutely the rest of aspects G2 wins: comfort, in-out tracking (v2 solved initial imprecision), weight, audio and mic quality, and software and hardware stability. Taking into account all these aspects and aplying to Crystals, Varjos, Beyonds etc, for me, a G2 with aspheric lenses would be, currently, the top 1 headset.
I bought the G2 to hedge against META’s mobile centric approach with their Quest lineup and got a knife in the back. This is a betrayal! WTF. I could be done with VR after this because I trust no one.
I honestly feel like a class action lawsuit is in order. MS legitimately first supported and recommended the G2 to use for MSFS2020. If they can support WordStar for decades they can support Mixed Reality. 🤬
@@jasonhurdlow6607 i agree. If they remove without my consent in w10, i will look to sue them as well. For w11 i cannot prevent them, but for w10, they promoted it, they cannot remove a perfectly functioning product. They can stop updating it as soon it stay functional, but they cannot remove it. There is a number of years, to support a product. Or they have to pay for a new headset compatible with the msfs2020. I won’t accept they remove the components from w10.

Had a G2 back in the days. the sweetspot was horribly small. returened it after 2 days. Returned my Pimax Crystal light after one week. While the sweetspot on my crystal light was great, the focal lenght was abyssmal. Wonder why no influencer talked about this. My lensenses where +2.5 off! As long as we don´t have variable focus lenght in our headsets the focal lenght should be infinity, not 1m. the Quest 3 was returned after one week aswell since it had tracking issues and the resolution was last gen. the lenses where superb, though. Bought a varjo aero and am very happy with it! Euro quality! BTW, I am into VR since the Oculus Rift DK1 and modded it hard (new display, new lenses).

Glad you mentioned this as it is an issue, especially for older people who short distance vision has started to fail. Have to get Clip on lenses made, another £100, plus the comfort kit and thicker gasket to accommodate lenses, more money…and they may or may not help 😞

Even though I dont intend on upgrading to Windows 11 ever, this is still insanely frustrating. It's such a good headset, and I already have one. It was expensive. I don't want to get something that is going to be big and more expensive to get roughly the same experience. Depressing.
Don’t support Microsoft. Don’t buy fs2024. If you have a console , switch to ps5 as i do. I won’t accept they don’t support their own technology on w11 and fs2024 on w10. Microsoft out and will be replace by linux if they remove support on w10 and i will sue them.
My upgrade from ReverbG2 was Quest3, it is simply black magic how wide the sweetspot is, I can use eye to check cockpit instruments on that thing and the integrated ASW is also another black magic, I can feel completelly smooth on 72FPS when ONLY getting 36 FPS from my PC/game, that is insane help when I can divert all the GPU performance to resolution or other visual quality.
Q3 in VD with max. settings looks like crap. Washed colours, awful contrast. Overall image feels flat.
@@UncleVoltoto I dont use VD for flight sims as the wifi has quality hit compared to USB. if you are not playing FPS/walking game, the VD path has much less quality compared to OculusLink via USB. Also it helps a lot if you increse the resolution a bit above native in OpenXR override with since you have some performance reserve with quest3 asw. Also compared to my old reverb g2 the colros were simply different, I used OpenXR color controls to make it back to what I was used to.
@@networkgeekstuff9090 You are wrong. Meta link is even worse then VD, much more blurry. VD's godlike setting resolution is around 3100x3100. I want to say any streaming with re-encode is bad for flightsims.

I get the frustration..but hey this headset won't die to good for that stay positive lots of owners plus talented people's out there still waiting for my crystal lite. Will keep my G2 V2 .Great video again and comments.
I sold my G2 (eBay). I thought the Pimax Crystal Light was way better in graphics displayed for the first 2 days. And then I remembered to take off the plastic film over lenses, and then it was even better! That's my true confession of temporarily being stupid !

This is copium. Microsoft announced the deprecation of WMR support last year and that they would be removing it from Windows entirely, and Reverb G2 owners have been in denial about this ever since. It's actually happened now. You shouldn't continue to be in denial about it.
hopefully a mod work around. but in the meantime a $35 512gb usb stick loaded with windows 10 would still work, as its still supported on windows 10 (although if you can afford to spend $100 on a proper external ssd, I would recommend that)
There is, using Windows 11 group policy editor, especially if you have Windows 11 Pro.
@@SargonDragon They took away functionality, without providing replacement functionality. Now we have perfectly good hardware that has been made useless for no reason at all, I think that's grounds for a class action lawsuit.

Sad day mate, this was exactly how I discovered yours and Sebs channel, I had a rift s and didn't want a quest, so needed a new pcvr headset and you and Seb totally sold me and I don't regret it one bit, I remember it came on a Saturday morning at 9am and I had no idea it was coming, had gone downstairs feeling a bit hungover to feed the cat and a guy knocked on and had it in his hand, felt like Christmas day 😁 so many happy times in this headset even though I hated windows mixed reality, this headset and my 1080ti could handle almost anything, so many great times with this headset

Just dual boot your system with win 10 and 11 .Assuming your cpu doesnt need the win 11 scheduler.
@@Themisterdee i will never buy Microsoft again and certainly not buy a cpu that depends on windows scheduler to work correctly. I will keep my trusty ryzen 1800x nvidia 1080ti forever until the hardware die and then switch to Apple or Linux.
I just bought a Pimax Crystal Light and was so excited to try it. However I find mine has a lot of Mura. I’m not sure if it is normal or not. Otherwise the headset is ok but I was a bit disappointed to be honest. It just does not look as clear as you report it should. I really loved my HP REVERB G2 and actually think it still holds up to the crystal, at least the headset I have.
If it has mura, your unit is defective.

Maybe you need to wear glasses as I found I do since the focal length is a lot less than the G2. If you can’t see clearly writing 1 metre from your eyes then that could be the issue?

I sold my Riva G2 on eBay 2 months ago, knowing this day was coming. I still had the box and foam, and so was an easy sell. It sold in 1 hour after I posted it.

I don't understand why they had to abandon this so soon. I have mine for about three years and don't have the funds to update to anything else. So it's either the end of flight simming - once you have experienced VR, there's no turning back -. And it also means not upgrading to MSFS2024... Or I manage somehow to not update W11, which doesn't feel good either. Why MSFT? Why?

It's possible to use group policy editor to block update to new version of Windows 11 but still allows security updates to current version.
I keep my old and trusty ryzen 1800x 8/16 at 3.7, so w10 cannot update to w11..it runs perfectly fs2020 in vr with my wmr samsung odyssey oled with medium settings smooth in all scene tokyo new york. Colors contrast and deep black with oled, and it is 7 years old. The resolution is not bad at 2800 x 1600. For a 400$ cdn 7 years old, i am sure it beats some new headset.
I will hang onto my G2 and my Windows 11 version 23H2 till I ever get the budget for Pimax Chrystal and AMD RX 7900 XT(X)...
Boxed up my trusty G2 for sale today. Have a PiMax Crystal light on order.
I couldn't go for the Q3 due to the amount of accessories I would need to purchase for comfort, and the USB compression was a big turn off.
Don't worry G2 owners, the update doesn't even manage to install on many peoples machines. It gets to 50% on mine then just fails.
That is sad. They need to be more involved with their customers and not leave them flat.
So sad, I have over 1500 hours with my 4 years old HP G2. This headset got me back into flight simming, and holy shit what a trip it has been the past years. Absolutely amazing expereince with G2. I am so pissed at Microsoft making hundred thousands of fully functional headset for millions of dollars, rendered into electronic scrap over night. These headset would have been able to be used for another 5-10 years and could have brought thousands of flight hours for very affordable money to thousands of flyers.
Anyways, I dont like Win10, so I was forced to upgrade to Pimax Crystal Light, but the G2 is waaaaaay more comfortable to wear. And the MIC is awesome on G2.

You're severely overestimating how many of these headsets are out there being used. There were never millions. According to the Steam Hardware Survey, there are about 80,000 of all WMR headsets in total. The Reverb G2 is an old outdated headset that was never popular outside of a narrow niche of flight simmers.
From within that bubble, dropping support for it looks ludicrous. But from a larger point of view outside of flight simming, WMR is a failed product effort from years ago that never gained much traction and is now being dropped after announcement of EOL last year.
@@SargonDragon ah ok, I know too many in my circuit 😁 Felt like it was incredibly many. But anyways each of these headsets cost about $700 new so it's a tremendous amount of money waisted way too early. Just because of some software not even needed to be updated anymore. MS could have left it in Windows for many more years.

You cannot have it setup properly as I would say I 50% to %75 of clear lenses with using open XR tool kit and in game tweaks
@@coRb77 The problem is that just leaving WMR support as part of Windows with no resources maintaining it is a significant security risk. Years ago, old drivers like this would have been left around in the OS, and that's what a lot of flight simmers have expected would happen with the end of support for WMR. But security has become a big issue in modern times. The frequency and sophistication of cyber attacks has increased dramatically over the years, and operating systems can not afford to leave such points of vulnerability anymore.
So my G2 replacement, the Pimax Crystal Light arrived yesterday. I was not impressed at all. The focal point, the barrel distortion, all made for an underwhelming experience. I immediately set up a return through Pimax support. It was that bad for me. I put in a preorder for the HTC Vive Focus. Who cares about the lenses. Hell, the lenses everyone's raving about in the Crystal had an insanely small sweet spot. There's no way the Vive can be worse

Pretty much the reason I am sticking to quest3, quality control, absolutelly freaking black magic giant sweet spot and for the love of god it actually has active cooling fan that prevents both fogging (which both crystal and reverb g2 were heavily impacted by in first 20min of any playtime) and getting warm during summer days. I am scratching my head as I learned that pimax is not putting a freaking 15usd costing fan into a 800 usd headset.
Well I just canceled my preorder for the HTC Focus. Apparently they are using the same exact lense setup as their previous models which NO ONE liked in their reviews. I'm thinking I just might buy a Windows 10 key and do a clean install

Everyone has different opinions of the Crystal Light . I saw that a lot of people had varying issues but then some people raved about it. I decided to take a chance. First thing I noticed was that the focal point was very close to my face. This caused my eyes to strain after a while and it also lessened the illusion of 3D. It's hard to describe. Everything didn't have as much depth as the G2 did. Then I noticed distortion around the edges. I went to an exterior view of my jet and with the "grid" of the tarmac, plain as day you could see massive barrel distortion. I went online to see if there was anything to adjust and found others who had the same exact experiences. Done. It's going back. I'm glad it works for others because I'm all for high-end PCVR headsets. Unfortunately it's not a good headset for me
I don't want to EVER hear Microsoft crying their crocodile tears about the environment again after they just relegated thousands of these perfectly fine headsets to the landfill.
Hello, I am willing to start in DCS and Microsoft Flight Simulator. I have a Pimax Crystal and I am currently a High End Pro SimRacing guy, so I would like to get something not professional and expensive, but also don't want to get cheap plastic stuff. What hardware would you recommend me to start with Flight Simming? Thanks.
Well, it only worked for me for the first few months after I bought it last year. Then it was way to jittery in the MSFS cockpit to be of any use. Not going to miss it.
Can't afford an upgrade. I've got my windows updates set to manual.

@@SargonDragon Hmmm. It's just a screen. You can use openxr or steam vr? The "mixed" part or WMR is getting bricked. I'll trust you but why brick what is essentially a screen. It would be like bricking a monitor? Maybe I don't want it to be so. Why hasn't CV1 been bricked or ANY other VR headset that is old? Doesn't make sense to me. Why couldn't HP keep it alive?

What is the status with the Pimax Crystal Light running too hot and pimax not allowing fan control to increase it? I hated ReverbG2 during summer days at is was a freaking oven, and love the quest3 running super cool on the face with it's fan. What is the situation with Crytal Light these days? I noticed on the pimax forums several complains on the temperatures of the thing and request for direct fan control.
The Crystal Light does not have fans. There's nothing to control.
@@SargonDragon Uff ... ok .... I am getting my flashbacks to ReverbG2 that was fogging like crazy in first 15 minutes and then was crazy hot on summer days. Quest2/3 active fans that are impossible to hear are solving both of these as they stream a gentle breeze also to the face mask, I am now baffeled how a 800 bucks VR headset cannot put there a 15 usd costing mini fan for christ's sake.
Incontrol GRC lets you decide if you want the windows version update or not. It does not interfere with the security updates for your current version. Works for me. Will use my G2 till it dies.
Hey Steve. What does the Pimax CL look like when you downscale it to the Reverb G2 resolution? I'm running a 3080.
I'd say it doesn't look as sharp, it can also look a little shimmery. But you do get better lenses, colours etc. So it's not perfect unfortunately.
Pretty early G2 owner here... Honestly, I never gelled with it.
Two main reasons:
1) pretty bad optics with poor sweetspot and really bad edge to edge clarity.
2) poor tracking - not so much for the helmet itself but definitely for the controllers.
Apart from that, build quality and comfort were never that great for me, plus ofcourse WMI never was that great.
The panel itself is pretty nice though when it comes to resolution etc.
As I am still on windows 10 I probably will still dabble with them occasionally but they (and other early headsets like CV1 etc) kind of burned me a bit when it comes to VR. I want a headset where the optics arent really something that gets in your way, while still being a comfortable solution.
Would you say Pimax Crystal Lite is in line, better or worse than Varjo Aero?

Its so hard to choose a headset now with MSFS 2024 coming. The difference between the VR1 and Crystal Light looks very big. Was that through the lens at full native resolution? Is it possible that Pimax implements the Nvidia sharpening technic too? That price for the VR1 is that high. 😢 I would love to support that made in EU Point but 3000€ incl Taxes hurts that much. With everthing around that hobby I can make a real pilot license. 😢 And the crystal super isnt released now.

Can you say something about a comparison about the VR1 and the varjo Aero? Is the aero between the crystal light and the VR1? I am thinking about to buy a used aero. The Software will work, also when they end the official support for this hmd.
Only take VR1 into consideration if you don't mind waiting a LOOOOOONG time. I don't mean the time it says on their website. It will take much longer than that. It's clear

The complete lack of care about timely delivery because money and marketing events are more important is the problem. I've talked with some people privately on discord and they also share similar views. Strangely the biggest bottlenecks and delays happened during and shortly before some events organized by Somnium or Somnium participating in events to showcase their headsets. It's not a coincedence. But CEO of course says that "he does his best" - sure, to stuff his pocket with money even at the expense of customers having to wait longer.
I too have the HP Reverb G2 and I’m waiting for the guys from Somnium to make contact regarding Postage to Australia! but still haven’t heard a thing it makes me very nervous spending a large chunk of money with a company doesn’t respond to customer enquires…
Thanks mate, as an Aussie I was thinking Somnium but I gave up because I think they are Northern Hemisphere focussed.
It goes further than that. They not just not respond, they actively censor people on discord who make valid points or they choose to disregard customers by calling them "drama queens" and what not. It even goes as far as threatening to cancel someone's order because they don't like the truth being told about how their priority is marketing and events participation rather than actual prodcution line capacity. The headset is great and the most solid option right now but the person behind it is a classified douche bag who cares more about money than customers satisfaction and timely delivery of the products.

I have the focus vision on order. I'll get ready for the "fresnel are junk!!!" parrots but I still think the reverb is fantastic, and the vision will add wireless to the displayport. the pico 4 doesnt cut it for sitdown simming imo.

So you on 24h2 update? And your g2 still working? And are you on win 10 or 11?
I have temporarily deactivated the update daemon so that 24H2 won’t be loaded. It's not an ideal solution, but a temporary one until a replacement is purchased. If I switch, I want to upgrade and not buy a 'similar' headset. I think there will still be some deals this year, like Black Friday. Only then will updates be downloaded again.

I have a G force RTX 3080 and a decent CPU. Will this be enough to drive the Crystal light at max resolution and medium settings for trees and terrain in MSFS2020 or 2024?
Not at Max resolution unfortunately. But at 0.75 yes, and it will still look great and give you some breathing room for future upgrades.

Don’t install a clear version of w11, or install w10 with an old processor not compatible with w11 like ryzen 1800x 8/16 @3.7, but it is still a powerful processor to do everything 4k video editing , 3d rendering, photo editing and vr high resolution. If you put a recent graphics card i bet you get better result than recent headset.

Mine has died in the cupboard after not seeing the light of day in two odd years. I was keeping it as a back up to my Aero, but it’s never been needed. I guess it’s just so much electrical waste now 😢

Forget the ethics of killing working headsets with a software update. What about the environmental effect of 1000s of headsets being dumped and people buying new ones causing more headsets to be manufactured. It should be illegal - crazy!

I won’t accept it. I would sue them if they remove working components against my will on a product they designed and promoted. However they can do it on w11 as it is new product. However even here Microsoft is supposed to provide retro compatibility with older system (at least the previous generation). It is a lie, they promote lie. And i hope they will lose some markets against competition now. It is like buying a new car but impossible to buy a spare part after 4 years. Car builder assure 10 years of support for parts.
Even worse, it would mean the next time you go for an oil change they remove an important part of your engine (because it is costly for them to maintain it) so you cannot go higher than 50km/h .. what you would do? Sue them of course.

Always wanted a Reverb G2 could never find one in the UK in the last few years, the import duty was ridicules to import it.
Thanks to you the G2 was my First VR Headset, and sadly, today, I reboxed it and will see if there are any takers on eBay. It's in perfect condition and was working well when my PCL arrived last week. I will say that the PCL inside-out tracking is much better than the G2 which was finicky at best. I think due to LED lighting in my sim space and the 60 Hz flicker the headset didn't like. Thanks for getting me locked into PC VR for MSFS2020. I can't wait for November 19th (Already pre-ordeded MSFS 2024). :-)
As far as PCL comfort, I 100% agree that the StudioForm Spacers and Head strap are a necessity - particularly if you need Vrwave lens inserts as you have to add spacers to fit the lens inserts without them being too close to your eyes. Now the PCL is nearly as comfortable as the G2, but you still feel the added weight after a while. I'm getting used to it though. thanks.

The G2 was epic, at least with FOV mod. First headset that really showed the (future) potential of high-res VR flight simming. I tried both a QPro and Pico4 but returned them both and went back to the G2. Took the Aero for me to move on! That was a defi ite upgrade, despite the low VFOV.
@@lurchilurch5507 i disagree the first was the samsung odyssey Oled with dual 1440 x 1600 @90hz with the refined wmr controller by samsung. I still have it and the oled display and fine pixel structure makes it fantastic in fs2020. I run smoothly at mediums settings with my 1080ti and 8 cores/16threads ryzen 1800x.
All new headset still does not beat it in dark scene like Tokyo. The new headset have simply more resolution which require very expensive graphics card to handle 9 to 16 millions pixels. With a 200$ nvidia 1080ti you can handle the 4,6 millions pixels of the Samsung Odyssey Oled headset.

@@lurchilurch5507 1600 x 1440. It is not blurry, the pixel structure is very fine, it makes the scene more realistic, less digital, to better see the number in the cockpit i use the zoom. But the scene is fantastic. You really have to look really to see the pixels. The color and contrast and deep black compensate for less resolution.

Well, I'm still rocking Win10, and I plan on using my hp g2 for a while yet. Not ready to upgrade yet.
I will simply turn off windows update and continue to use my HP reverb G2 . I will patiently wait for a headset that is a clear upgrade with less compromises to be released in the future.

Much as I tried I found the Pimax Crystral Light was blurred at medium to long distance, sharp in cockpit, but the tracking had a slight delay and was jerky, made me feel ill. Tried all sorts to fix it but couldn't. Yes you need the Studioform addon because its as uncomfortable as hell. The image overlap was noticeable too. Maybe I had a bad one. I sent it back for refund and went back to my Quest3 with Amazon comfort addons. The Quest3 tracking is instant and sharper than the PL was. The VR manufacturers need to provide UK suppliers so that demos could be had, quick delivery & easy returns. The Pimax return process isn't the simplest or quickest, so I'd say beware of the Pimax Crystal Light. I'd pay the price for a top quality headset if I could get a demo of one before buying!
I love it, but got a crystal light last week. The G2 is far more comfortable, you forget you’re even wearing it. A few issues with the Crystal despite its larger clearer image… like the focus distance is a lot nearer so I need glasses to use it with my old eyes. It also seems to have some barrel distortion which is causing me to get nauseous when looking from left to right or moving forward/backward. Never had that in 3 years of G2 use or a Rift S before that. It may just be war thunder as that’s all I’ve tested it in. But I’m sticking with windows 10 and hanging on to the G2 for now 😉
Such a shame.. iv had the crystal and then the crytal light in my basket for well over a year now.. all i want is a g2 with better sweet spot and maybe slightly higher resolution... maybe eye tracking... but thats it... for 6/700....... now the choices are the extremely large and bulky crystal light for 800 ish with no eye tracking or the quest 3 which has many issues
I gave up on my Quest 3! The display is always slightly foggy. It is not as crisp and sharp as I like. That is why I am eagerly awaiting the Pimax Super with micro-oled displays at 57PPD. I hope they do start shipments in December, as they said earlier. "The G2 is dead! Long live the G2!"
IMHO it's simply a crazy move to ditch an otherwise perfectly working piece of hardware because of some pointless idea of MS's developers. Naturally I'm not using Win11, and it will not change for sure - problem solved. The bad thing is there's not a simple, affordable headset right now which comes close to the G2 in EVERY aspects (resolution, binocular overlap, no SDE, good colors, high comfort, PD cable direct connection, high quality audio with quality bass).
Maybe the next generation, a hypothetic Reverb G3, Quest 4/5 or anything else will make it, but ALL the current ones Steve mentioned have heavy flaws here and there not even worth for me even thinking about changing to them. Surely if my G2 stops working tomorrow then I MUST change but it's hopefully not the case. I'm still waiting for the next affordable headset which is at LEAST as good as my G2in all fields.

hopefully a mod work around. but in the meantime a $35 512gb usb stick loaded with windows 10 would still work, as its still supported on windows 10 (although if you can afford to spend $100 on a proper external ssd, I would recommend that)

I bought the Reverb G2 a few years ago, in part due to watching your videos about it. I did have a couple of units I had to return, but I finally got a good one that I still use today. I'll be ordering the Pimax Crystal Light soon, in preparation for MSFS 2024. Love my G2 but it's time to move on.

But , the game is not running on the headset, you just stream the software and controll the software from the headset , game are still rendered on the computer, otherwise I wuld have shit framerates when I run the game in 4k 🤷🏻 if you have a great wifi connection quest 3 should not loose much quality via wifi over cable. I have my wifi 7 router and picture is great 👌🏻

update..... my g2 is just fine after the new windows update.. im pretty sure there just not releasing anymore updates for software or firmware which they never really have its been the community with open xr toolkit tbh. but yah dont throw out a perfectly good headset and its fine to update your pc. idk if scaring the ppl without proper testing is a good idea.
Had the Reverb G2 for a while. Small sweet spot, horrible controllers, way too front heavy, the face gasket was for very wide faces causing forehead pain, but the image was good. Some time later, the screens had small areas where the LED's would not turn off and displayed patches of rainbow colors. Contacted HP for a repair on warranty. They denied the repair, due to my having put on an aftermarket headstrap. As if that affected how the screens work. Turns out, many other people had issues with HP refusing to repair units. I've owned many HP products over the years, but they aren't what they used to be. With WMR dead, there is no longer a point to any WMR headset. Not updating a computer just to keep using an obsolete headset just doesn't make sense to me. Especially when there are other and better options.
Replaced the G2 with the Q2 and then the Q3. Q3 is so far the best headset I have had yet. My perspective is based on what you get for the money. I play DCS, but that's not all I play. I also play games like Skyrim VR, Half Life Alyx, Beat Saber for the wife and Moss for the kids, to name a few. So any headset I invest money into, has to fill more than a sim role. Since VR tech changes ever year or two, it just isn't reasonable to pay up to or over a thousand dollars for something that will be obsolete a year or so later. I can use the Q3 wired or wireless, at my computer, in the sim pit, all around the house or even outside. If I need to see the room or sim pit, I can just tap the side of the headset and get passthrough. The size, weight, image quality, features and comfort are very reasonable. Certainly the best bang for the buck.

My OLED samsung odyssey is 7 year old and works phenomenal. Good colors good contrast, deep black in dark scene like tokyo. These new headset required huge graphic card and are not as good, these have only more resolution.
But my oled samsung ofyssey has a very fine pixel structure, you don’t really see it and make the decor more realistic finally. I tell you i am picky on graphics but it is phenomenal. And there is only 4,6 millions pixels to handle so my ryzen 1800x and nvidia 1080ti are fine to handle that in medium settings for all scenes. But i deactivate the other planes or boat or cars. But it handle perfectly my yoke and ch pro pedal and the headset. And i don’t overclock the cpu, and very reasonable on gpu overclocking, i have margin.
I literally just had it out with Meta about their requirement that I give them my date of birth, or else they'll disable my Quest 2 and Quest 3. They can go eff themselves. They agreed to give me my money back for both. I've demanded full price back for both...haven't heard back yet.
What they are attempting to do is LITERALLY THEFT. I'm so done with that society-destroying company.

Hello, Can you please reach out to HP and find a solution or HP plan for us, I used my G2 only few times and I would like to use it for what I paid for and I am not going to win 10 to do that, HP needs to deliver what we paid for as long as the product still by hardware work it should continue to work and all that HP needs to do is to make there own mix reality application that can be installed in up to date windows version and keep updating it!
