1:02 The role of fascia in maintaining arm shape and function
2:57 The importance of functional exercises
3:13 Recommended arm workout videos to enhance fascial health and muscle strength
Flabby arms can be a frustrating problem for many individuals, especially as they age. The loss of muscle mass and strength in this area can not only affect physical appearance but also limit daily activities and overall quality of life. In addition to sarcopenia, the process of age-related muscle loss, flabby arms can also be caused by weakened fascia.
Fascia is a connective tissue that surrounds and supports muscles and other structures in the body. Without proper maintenance and movement, it can become tight or restricted, leading to a decreased range of motion and weakness in the associated muscles. This is why targeting both the muscles and fascia is crucial for effectively improving flabby arms.
Functional exercises, which involve multi-joint movements that mimic everyday tasks, are key to targeting muscle and fascial health. Working multiple muscles and joints at once helps strengthen and activate the surrounding fascia, which can lead to tighter, more toned arms with improved strength and function.
To incorporate exercises into your routine to help improve the fascia, I recommend trying out the three workout videos linked above. These videos focus on a variety of movements that target the arms, shoulders, and fascia for a well-rounded approach to flabby arm reduction.

Hi Dr.Berg, I’ve been an RMT for over 22 years and one big comment about fascia is that it requires hydration to function effectively. This was highlighted in Jean-Claude Guimberteau’s research at many of the world fascial research congresses time and time again. Fascia requires multi directional movement in general because it is a web of structured hydrophilic tissue. In the first video you highlighted movement saying no weight but what makes the movement successful is the tone of the muscle intertwined with the fascial structure in a beautiful interplay. We can’t separate the two. Anytime we move our limbs extended it is using weight unless we move the arms bent and close by the body. In this way long lever movements include weight of the limb. I like that you presented this because fascia is important and many of us end up with adhesions because of lack of hydration or lack of movement twisting the bodysuit of tissue that exerts 2,000 lbs per square inch. In this way we have more success moving it with functional movements. Hydration , muscle movement and functionally of multiple muscle groups lending to tone leads to better fascial health. I enjoy your work. Thank you.

I've been waiting & searching a long time for someone to show some arm strengthening exercises that don't require putting any weight on the joints. So, thanks.

I'm so thankful for this educational video. I have been bothered by my flabby arms and i am progressingly losing weight since last July. I wondered if the flabbiness will ever go away. This video gives me transparent understanding on how these movements work our body out.

Great info doc. I always thought that the exercises without weights were a waste of time 😕 but you added a new perspective! I will continue my muscle training and add these fascia training exercises 😊

I’ve been preaching fascia and weights in my Pilates sessions for years and just created Shaktilates, at 63 and a teacher for 35 yrs I’m living proof that this method works . Great video and good to have YOU reconfirm the facts too ! X

Wow I did not know this! I am 62 and have had the 'bat wings" for several years and have blamed aging . I just joined a gym about 3 weeks ago, so good to know that just an arm workout will not help this problem! Definitely going to check out the videos - thank you!

I started just this year doing more weight free arm and shoulder exercises plus some dumbell ones still. What you explained I never heard before and it makes so much sense. I have tried so hard isolating muscle groups with dumbells and getting some results, but not like I thought I should. Cant wait to do the ones. Thanks Dr. Eric Berg...God Bless..💕
