I remember seeing him play live with Hate Eternal back around 2001-ish(?), when he'd laid down the drums for Nile's second album, "Black Seeds of Vengeance". I got to talk to him after that insane set, and he was super cool. Even laughed out loud when I told him what my GF at the time thought of his drumming ("This drummer is an ATHLETE!!!" were her exact words). Good times!
I’ve had this same issue. One thing I’ve started doing to remedy this is something I got from my personal teacher. Take a practice pad and set a tempo where you’re comfortable (right now for me it’s 150bpm). Set a timer for say 5 minutes and do the strokes emphasizing the motion of the wrists. Over-exaggerating the motion will help to develop all the muscles needed to play at higher tempos much faster. Think of it like lifting weights - to build the muscle properly you have to go through the full range of motion. My teacher emphasizes that full range of motion concept constantly. Hope this can help you like it has for me :)
The drummer for alex skolnick trio is sick i dont know his name off hand but listen to their version of tom sawyer its musical blasting rather than just strings of notes . And hey where is JoJo Mayer he is a cyborg beast
I've yet to see anyone's blast beats stand up to that kind of scrutiny. The difficulty of hearing the 32nd note off beat combined with the endurance challenge means that most blast beats performed by a human will end up being kind of flammy. Almost all recorded drums are edited these days though, so it gives the illusion that everyone out there is blasting perfectly.
For me, it sure felt like asking for an injury. A short period when i was between techniques, my left shoulder was always sore and my back was so tired from pushing the ultra fast speeds. After each song, It felt like one step closer to a back injury. I definitely do not advise using anything else but wrists and fingers. The switch grip technique gives you lots of speed, power and endurance and all from just the hand and fingers. Highly recommend learning that one properly if you're into finger and wrist blasting.
Hey guys, next time you record in slow motion maybe it would be wiser to post a 30 fps video instead of 60 fps so that you can slow everything down even more
Wojtyła I was just trying to help, my English isn't the greatest tho.. I was referring to it like the slow mo guys said - if you record something at 120 fps and view it at 30, it's 4 times slower instead of viewing it at 60 where it's only 2 times slower.
While it is correct, just posting a video in 30 FPS will result in skipped frames and not slo-mo. Altering the frame count to achieve slow motion is available in editing software - not posting options - so you could've just said "next time please slow it down twice as much".
Not a huge fan of blast beats. I feel increasing the speeds requires the drummer to decrease power so much that they just feel like a washed out slog. Instead of increasing intensity they do the opposite for me. I like a metal drummer to hit hard as balls. The sound speaks for itself.
@@cussyrichards6121 well it's not always just singles. There other types of blasts such as the gravity bomb blast(which incorporates the freehand technique) that use other things than singles
Why choose? Play fast and good at the same time! All you're saying is that you don't like and don't understand why someone would play fast. Maybe secretly would want to be able to play fast and don't know it yet. A closeted metal drummer, if you will.
I'm a simple man, i see derek blasting - i hit like.
King Of All Kings
Hate eternal
The slow mo blast is still faster than me haha
xD
Derek's blastbeat is a proper machine gun. Not some wimpy tapping like some of the other guys that are fast but can't get enough power to the strokes.
Dude. My favorite death metal has the soft taps, they literally make the whole song for that.
Great technique. I am a jazz player and this definitely helps control for any style! Thanks

I really like Derek as being one of the favorite drummers, as well as his constructive and motivational approach...
Can you guys get George Kollias on Drumeo?
One of the greatest of all time
I definitely love this!! Amazing!
Did anyone else see him making a sandwich in slow motion? 😂😂😂
And Gavin Harrison?
It's currently being mixed and mastered. We'll be releasing it soon.
Cant get enough of this video.
Obrigado drumeu!
My biggest issue with my blast attempts is that my left arm tenses up a lot. So much to the point that my wrists/fingers just shut down.

A7xTheRev98 Hey thanks! I’ll have to try this
He's getting old but his technique is still amazing
Is It American grip?
German.
How about GRAVITY BLAST?
I don't really like the idea of wrapping index finger around the stick. Just afraid of crushing the finger by accident.
its happen to me many times
Then how do you hold the sticks
Aah no wait i know what you mean nvm
2:43 Now look you have to do both things here ya ? Now are ye sure ye dont want that clear coat ?
Its Dan mayo time!!! he is awesome!
wrist = power , finger = speed
Well, that's all arm... What about wrist or finger so you don't get tired?
Only pussies get tired...
You guys should have George Daniel on drumeo!
Matt that would be wonderful. Great player!

Maybe it's just hard to hear and see lol but while watching his blast beats in slow motion it seems like they aren't synchronized

Eloy Casagrande from Sepultura on vimeo. Who likes the idea????
Playing from the shoulders sounds like asking for an injury no?
Not at all, why would you think that?
It takes more energy than using the wrists, but not sure it will cause an injury.

dude omg hes so clean what a beat!

you don't know how frames per second work, do you?

Also I may have sounded too passive-aggressive, sorry for that, it was unnecessary.
Wojtyła thanks for the heads up! also I'm glad we could settle this in a peaceful manner.
Please invite Matt Mcguire :)
Take a Brazilian Drum
Ahora con los pies. .....
I thought Ron Jeremy was fat and in jail. Times have changed
Sounds like the builders next door drilling in the basement.
😵WTF
It looks like a push-pull derived technique

Check out Frost from 1349 if you want hard hitting blast!
iau Also check out Francesco Paoli. He's really fast and a hard hitter.
Check out Adam Jarvis, Chason Westmoreland, Eugene Ryabchenko, Dave McGraw if you want some drummers that slap the hell out of their kits haha
Sounds like you can’t play blast beats
Its such a bad beat tho
Tronci it's still one of the (of not THE) most essential beats in extreme metal drumming.. And i really love it^^
It's not really a beat, it's a rudiment (single stroke roll)
Blast Beast i mean without any other instruments its not as nice on its own. I agree though when it's used in metal
for you
@@cussyrichards6121 well it's not always just singles. There other types of blasts such as the gravity bomb blast(which incorporates the freehand technique) that use other things than singles
mmm no
That sounds like a beat for people that don't like music.
canturgan You seem to be very close minded.
canturgan You're an idiot! That's fine if you don't like death metal but don't say it's not music.
Samael A I can say what I like.
canturgan and you can go fuck yourself as well.
Samael A Touche
Can't play good? Play fast instead!
Lol except when you're this good the slower shit is much easier but you've probably never played drums in your life wise ass!

Can't play good ? Post retarded comments on RUclips !
