Hi. Leo Lyons ! The magic freak. Just watch him go on videos of the bands gigs. I reckon he's one of the Top bass players ever ! He's a freak mate ! Cheers from New Zealand 🇳🇿👍
Busts a string around the 16 minutes area, re-tunes the rest and just keeps on going. Amazing guitarist and band. Saw them live in Edinburgh on the same bill as Jethro Tull as substitutes for Stevie Winwood and Traffic - Stevie was "ill". A memorable night.
When Alvin Lee was in Phoenix we heard what sounded to us a tight band until Ten Years After followed. I've seen the Doors, Hendrix, Janus etc. But Lee and the band were the tightest I ever heard. RM
It was such a pleasure seeing TYA live way back when - I had the luxury of seeing them 3 times in very different venues - they shined in each one - blues, jazz, rock, they could do it all. Chicks head barely moves thruout the 1st track - while Leos head never stops. Its raw and beautiful. Theres random music and finesse melodies. I;m 50,000 miles outside my brain as I watch and listen to you. SSSHHHHH
Got lucky...Saw them live Van Dyke club Plymouth December 68...fabulous playing...no support band...just one long gig ....!!!!!...Packed club that night..!!!!
I remember the sparks of creativity, imagination, and pure amazement when I first found this video. I was completely mystified at Alvin’s playing, I continually come back to this video to study
Except for the fact that Clapton was given the nickname because of the time he took on stage to replace a broken guitar string, not because of his playing style. In Clapton - The Autobiography (2007), Eric had this to say, "On my guitar I used light-gauge guitar strings, with a very thin first string, which made it easier to bend the notes, and it was not uncommon during the most frenetic bits of playing for me to break at least one string. During the pause while I was changing my string, the frenzied audience would often break into a slow handclap, inspiring Giorgio to dream up the nickname of 'Slowhand' Clapton."
Saw them in Stockton, Ca. In about 1971. Alvin Lee rocked. My friend and I went to the very front, actually leaning on the stage and ogling Alvin. Fun memory!
I love Alivin Lee, i drew him by hand in 1976. I would sit an listen to that album with headphones all day ..along with Hendrix, also drawn. Love this..ty for the person who filmed an treasured this gem

That's the first time I'd even heard of such a thing happening.
Interesting video as an example of how most bands of the day actually appeared live in concert. In 1969 I saw Led Zeppelin when they opened for Vanilla Fudge on their first North American tour. This is almost exactly what the show looked like for both bands. A very small stage, Marshall stacks, very little effects, practically zero lighting at all, and nothing but straight ahead music for the wonderful price of $5 (five dollars).

This is some of the greatest music I ever heard! A great band and Alvin Lee is off the chart with that blues guitar playing.
Ten Years After and Alvin Lee are icons of Rock and Roll.
I love this. Real band, real sound,
The Bass Player really ROCKS!!!!!
Well the best ever....Check out the other vids. The guy is King!!
Hi. Leo Lyons ! The magic freak. Just watch him go on videos of the bands gigs. I reckon he's one of the Top bass players ever ! He's a freak mate ! Cheers from New Zealand 🇳🇿👍
Excellent footage of my favorite band ever. They kick ass
Leo Lyons the best bass player in the world!!!!!!!
Certainly one of the best. The man can play.🤩😊😂
Hello world to Ten Years After ?.... thank the gods for Ten Years After !!!😊Cheers from New Zealand
I have been playing guitar for 50 years . Alvin Lee has always been my no.1 mentor , its always impressive to play even close to the way he does !
I love this band and think rick lee is an awesome drummer!!!!
Read his Book: From Headstocks to Woodstock. written very well with lots of insight into TYA and his & the band's Humble beginnings.
When Alvin Lee was in Phoenix we heard what sounded to us a tight band until Ten Years After followed. I've seen the Doors, Hendrix, Janus etc. But Lee and the band were the tightest I ever heard. RM
Thank you man! This is a treasure! What a band! What a sound! Alvin doesn't get half the recognition he deserves!
SSSHHHHH
Great muppet analogy. Thanks for the video. It's fun to see bands in a low-production environment as it shows what they can do. Alvin Lee was amazing.
RIP Alvin. I'm glad I got to see you live in the early 70's in Vancouver.
For some reason, the slow hand of Clapton got more acclaim then Alvin Lee. Alvin was the best than the rest......
@Jack Shaheen Right on bro...
Listen to Woodstock Goin' Home Lee is wicked ass smokin' on lead all the while doing lead vocals ??
Phenomenal! 💥👑
@@lfader I heard him say once that he could even play faster than he did at
Woodstock...
@@jtslaptop intersting . always wondered why they called him that
Don't try this at home kids.. you'll never get close!
"Sorry, no comment for many years" Bless you/original uploader. Thank you so much.
Saw them in Stockton, Ca. In about 1971. Alvin Lee rocked. My friend and I went to the very front, actually leaning on the stage and ogling Alvin. Fun memory!
4 incredibly talented players.Thankfully they found each other.
I love Alivin Lee, i drew him by hand in 1976. I would sit an listen to that album with headphones all day ..along with Hendrix, also drawn. Love this..ty for the person who filmed an treasured this gem
this is so badass man what no alvin in the rock n roll hall of fame shame on you RIP Alvin one of the greats ever
Oh ya! Amazing, TYA were such a cool band, when i went to see Woodstock at the cinema i was 15 and Alvin blew me away, from then on i was hooked and fascinated by them and still am. Thanks this is awesome.
I was 15 too, and I Saw them, in Woodstock , at the cinema , 1970
SAYS IT ALL WHO NEEEDS WORDS SUCH AWE INSPIRING MASTERY OF THE GUITAR A BAND IN SYNC AND AT ONE THANKYOU THANKYOU
A thousand thank yous for this upload!!!
I never got to see these guys I was still a bit young through their time I was only 7 here (69) but I did later get to see Alvin with Ten Years Later which of course wasn't the same but I did at least get to see this legend before we lost him to complications during "hernia surgery" which kinda blew my mind.
A very small stage, Marshall stacks, very little effects, practically zero lighting at all, and nothing but straight ahead music for the wonderful price of $5 (five dollars).
good call, Zep also opened for Iron Butterfly on that 1st tour, good times!
I'm so jealous. Jealous

Which show off that tour? Listened to a few of those tapes and it's unreal, man, I'm very envious
That's all you need
Unbelievable!
Very artfully played
This is so cool. Thanks so much for posting. Have only seen Alvin play his red Gibson 335 never a Strat so that's rare in itself
I love the Great Sounds Thank You!!
OMG, for 50 seconds there I feared I was suffering from hysterical deafness upon seeing this video exists... Can't type either, so excited.
love this band always
thanks for put this on air
Greeetz from saltcastle
Leo Lyons, one of the most underrated bass player. He could play bass as fast as Alvin did with the guitar.
Too many people were busy worshipping Hendrix and missed out on this master, He stole the show at Woodstock and that got my attention.
Interesting seeing the great Mr. Alvin Lee (r.i.p.) playing a "stratocaster".
First time i saw or heard them was woodsock film not long after they played Liverpool University rushed down to Nems ( brian epstiene's shop ) got a ticket was delighted and not disappointed what a band !
RIP Alvin Lee. The greatest ever
wow I wasn't aware he passed yes I agree RIP
I thought I knew rock/blues. Duane Allman and Peter Green, but this is as good as I ever heard! Alvin Lee didn't have to take a backseat to anyone!!! And Leo Lyons and the drummer, Ric Lee, are one great rhythm section. I listen to this everyday
@@garyesposito8982 I saw them 4x live over the years-- One of my top guitar players of All Time!!!!!!
Es lo mejor 10 años después
