@@david1044 As I understand it, Leslie was always the loudest guitarist on stage in these kinds of situations. I think that's what he's referring. I think Leslie's phrasing, and his playing Felix's tunes, is inspiring, though he had limitations that are easy for some to focus on. It seems like people who took lessons with him found it changed their playing and their approach to building solos (it seems that was his focus, unsurprisingly)

Leslie's had his guitar hooked up to an old simple style of effect and it always sounded so powerful.
He could play one note and it sounded like a freight train just rolled in.
He said once he liked playing leads you could remember them and basically hum every note.
    Just loved his sound.
And of course Lee will always be one of the most underrated rock and blues guitarist ever.

Up there with Presley, Jim Morrison, John Lennon & yeah, even Jerry Lee Lewis. Many of his tracks were fiery. Leslie West is always incredible. Steve Hunter & the others all monsters of guitar. I also admired the reason Alvin called his band Ten Years After. He said the band formed 10 years after Elvis Presley. Appropriate. RIP Spirit's Randy California also.

Back in 1974 I was playing lead guitar in a band called Medusa, we had a review in Melody Maker and the reviewer said we were like Sabbath with Leslie West on guitar. I'll take that any day of the week even now.

Nice to see Ted rockin' on the slide guitar. I used to work with Ted in a Venice, CA phone room. Good guy.

I saw Ted with Wishbone in late 70 or early 71. The opener was Trapeze. WA used a wall of Orange Amps. First time I ever heard of Orange. Great show!

I am kind of speechless . . . so many of my favorites taking up the same space. I never imagined you could have too much talent on stage but this is pretty close. Awesome, thanks for posting. The only thing better would have been an electric axe in Mr Howes' hands.

After following REO speedwagon to a small bar after a show in Grand Rapids Michigan, they played this song for my birthday request.
We walked into the bar a couple minutes behind the band and I sat down next to Gary Richrath. I immediately struck up a conversation. Nobody in the bar had a CLUE who they were, so we were uninterpreted. I mentioned it was my birthday and that I was at the show (asking him to autograph my ticket stub). Kevin Cronin was talking to the house band about giving up the stage and their instruments to play a couple songs for the patrons, so Gary asked if I had a birthday request. Without thinking 'Little Queen' came out. Gary just laughed saying "not with those instruments". Every band knows Johnny B. Goode, so that was my next request. Gary just smiled and said "we can do that".
This was in the late 70's, about the time the 'Tuna Fish' LP was released. BEST BIRTHDAY of my life, and this song always reminds me of that night.
