  • Leslie West & Mountain with Corky Laing and Richie Scarlet perform two songs on Dennis Miller's late night TV show February 1992. The first song already appears elsewhere online, but this appears to be the only upload with BOTH songs from this reunion performance, one of their first after a six year hiatus. The BetaGems channel also has "Leslie West 10-31-91 New London CT UNRELEASED."
BetaGems are culled from an archive of over 1000 beta video tapes recorded from 1983 into the 1990s. Most feature live music performances broadcast on television in San Diego CA, though there are also rarely seen commercials, comedy clips, old TV news segments, made-for-TV movies and documentaries, religious programming, variety shows, talk show interviews, and other material that doesn't seem to be anywhere else on RUclips or online. Most of the tapes were recorded on a Sony SL-HFT7 Super Beta Theater Hi-Fi Stereo - the same model was refurbished and is being used for these digital transfers and uploads.
In rare occasions where a BetaGems clip does appear elsewhere, we're only uploading if our own beta master is better quality or contains material not seen previously. Much footage comes from public television and public access broadcasts that the taper, who worked for a local cable TV production company in the 1980s, monitored nightly for several years. Some of the programming is strictly regional, mostly from the San Diego area.

To all who say Corky Laing throws drumsticks, He doesn't !! Corky bounces the stick off of a drum or cymbal, on the beat, so that it bounces in the direction he wants it to fly. He's pretty accurate but when Leslie jokingly flips him the bird it was because Corky's timing was a bit off because the stick bounced a little higher and came down on the upbeat.

Takes me back! I bought Nantucket Sleighride when I was in the eighth grade and I wore that one out. Couldn't get enough of the sound of Leslie's guitar especially when it was on top of such a potent rhythm section. West's wall of distortion sounded so right.

Leslie West : SEVERELY UNDERRATED as a lead guitarist …. Many Hard Rockers list him as an inspiration and influence. Put him in the Hall

My first time of listen ING to Leslie West on his Album ...FLOWERS OF EVIL...IN 1971......I think. It was killer to me.Alot folks...if you didn't play guitar.Alot these guys who were TOP PLAYERS were ignored...Leslie though he played a Jr Les Paul .And turn on alot of English players on to them..They were great guitars in the 1950s single and double...I finally bought one In 1976...Gibson jr.for 100.00 .yep card board case too.

That opening cowbell to "Mississippi Queen" is one of the best known and readily identifiable song intros that prepares the listener for some of the heaviest and gut-punch hard rock that anyone could hope for, and delivers hot and hard every time, with every listening, for 50 years.
Keep on truckin' Mr. Natural, if you please!

Quit ragging on the guitar tone, this was like 1992. West could piss on a guitar and get better tone than most!

What's wrong with his tone? The TV mix? Was it because it was only two full stacks of 100 watt Marshall guitar amps instead of his 'normal for 1970' 4 full sets of 120 watt Sunn Colosseum PA aka Public Address heads?
      Oh sorry forgetted. Marshalls suck.
Not when Leslie plays though them they don't.
