Dipping a body and sheet metal is worth every penny it cost to dip . A buddy had his 59 El Camino dipped and wow it was in such great shape . When we picked up the El Camino there was a 55 Baby Bird that looked awesome to us , but the owner thought it was a piece of junk just because of a couple of pin hole rust spots . Interesting thing about the Baby Birds , the front sheet metal is brazed onto the body when they were manufactured as we saw on the body . Awesome video .
I have had numerous bodies and parts chemically stripped using this process. I highly recommend it BUT you must have the body/ parts e coated after the dipping process. As mentioned in previous posts the areas that are not readily accessible by the normal spray primer process have to be protected from future corrosion. The e coat treatment gets into all the areas that spray primer cannot. Do it right or don’t do it at all!
If the owner is going for a stock rebuild, the factory markings were visible on the firewall after the first dip. You might let the owner know so they can replicate them.
I know paint stripping and rust removal is your thing, but it would be nice to see a follow-up on a few of the more interesting cars further down their restoration process.
I love watching your videos. I'm not sure where you are from but I'm in Pittsburgh, PA and I've never seen cars dipped and cleaned without much rust. None of my 1960's cars would have come out of the dip. I think all that would have survived most of my cars would be the roof,A pillar and B pillars
this process is fantastic, the result for a good restoration is excellent, not to mention that it removes all the rust points, I would like to know which chemicals were used in the first bath and what the temperature of the water. Excellent work, waiting for the next one.
Thank you! Temperature for the alkaline is around 180f. Unfortunately I can’t say exactly what they are. Everything is proprietary and I don’t have permission to say what they are
It is clean but it will get a whole new floor pan and trunk pan. If it's being dipped they won't skimp the repair. The window rot is so common on this GM BOP line. She should get the royal treatment. Great video.
👍👍 They have soap injection on the spray washers, but what about Sand injection? Even on minimum setting having a few grains of sand in the spray would do wonders... even though without sand it is already doing wonders when you spray...
In 1990, I restored a 1958 Chevrolet Apache pickup 3/4 ton with a custom chrome package that the factory installed. It came with a 348 and a four-speed transmission. It had 19 layers of paint, I would have killed for something like this. This. It took 2 years of sanding to get it all off.
*I f enjoy watching these kind of videos. Love to see all that paint, rust and other stuff totally removed from the cars. I just can't explain why I love to see the bare memetal so clean.* 😂😂😂
My first car was a 1967 tempest just like that one a 2 door post car that I got in 1974 It was already rusted out especially the rear floors and the corners of the back flying buttress rear window I was a 16 year kid and I had basic tools and no skills or u tube so I got wire lathe that was used in plaster walls I laid on top of it regular concrete lol It worked
Its an interesting processes and chemical stripping is a good way to get to the bottom of things quickly. My question is how do you access the parts of the body that aren't exposed? Wont this cause flash rusting and further rusting to the areas of the body that are difficult to reach?
One of the other channels I watch is a British high end custom shop called Retropower. When doing a strip they stopped using acid dip because the service they were using were not either willing or able to fully clean the voids of acid. They now blast instead. An interesting channel btw, they’re just finishing off a custom built Land Cruiser, a Camaro, a Mustang, a lancia Stratos kit car(!), some custom Escorts, a jag and others.
You have a very satisfying job. How many cars can you do at once? Do you have multiple tanks going? What is an average cost to do this process, i know it can vary from good to worse.Do you add a chemical in the final spray to prevent rusting? So many questions but honestly fascinated by the process.
I was wondering if you ever get cars in that have been cut in half and re-welded. Back in the early 90's I picked up an Aries K car. Good car, I just thought it was funny that it had been made from two cars.
I asked a car builder how he felt about acid dipping. He said he’s skeptical about dipping. His concern was metal strength after dipping. I’m personally a fan of what you do. But can you elaborate on this concern
The roof skin must have been damaged. You can see where they drilled out the spot welds, which is how you remove a roof skin, or quarter panel, or floor, etc.
Have you done any AMA type question sessions? I just had a silly thought on your opinions. What's the worst build quality generally beloved car. And inverted, what's the best build car that has the most slander about it?
Just a question, when you spray of everything with water and there is some water left on the end of the footage, is'nt that going to cause surface rust? And even more in the parts you can't see like in crevices and so on?

Beautious! I have a '62 Dodge Polara 500 which I'd like to dip-strip. Are there any places in the greater Boston (Massachusetts) area that perform this service?
Хороший вопрос, тоже думал об этом) еще интересно, кузова похоже оцинковку проходят в одной из ванн, потому что кузовное железо очень быстро ржавее от смывки водой, вряд ли думаю они пассиватор добавляют при смывке

This is the best looking GTO body, 1965-1967 that I have ever seen.... the owner is going to be beyond happy!
Definitely the best I’ve seen too! I’m sure they will be super pleased!
@@minute_of_dangle Nice job! did it the old school way before these services came about. Elbow grease and lotsa glassbead.
The goat gets a soak! Looks like they cut out the hole for the shifter with a blunt axe!
Brute force engineering…🥴
Original automatic car that at some point in the past was converted to stick (via axe)?
@@JackF99 Dunno…but a manual shifter needs more space. Automatic “I” - Manual “H”…🤷🏻♂️
@Isabella-tf1qc Oh now I get it...Allah cut that hole. Dude rocks with an axe!
Lol yeah definitely a little rougher than it should have been

Good call, even just a picture of the final painted and finished car
This car is Ruby from Foothill paint and Fabrication. Check out the restoration in progress on their channel.
The Goat....I had a Red 1967 GTO Convertible with a 1962 389 engine swap. It was a beast...

Really liking the videos.. No music and just work sounds great to me.

@@minute_of_dangle I wish I could, but I’m all the way in southern CA!
What a process. Thanks for the videos.
This car wasn't abused and drag raced like most cars we see. It doesn't seem like it was ever damaged either. A very nice example

Surprisingly little rust!! Amazing for a’66!!👍

I ask the same question... there is so many folded skins and hidden cavities for the acid to hide in. I would not use this process
@@timgannon2993 A lot of cavities with no access. Maybe if you do electrophoresis at the end, will work.
Nice job
Super clean for a '66! Best bud in school had a '67 Tempest (same car pretty much) and back then it was swiss cheese! Where's the roof panel?
It was cut and clamped on. Very this sheet metal so it was dipped separately
They cut it, we didn’t just to clarify
Love you, love what you do ❤
@Isabella-tf1qc erm, okokok
I loved the ashtray clean up. 😅
Great work bud🤠
Amazing!!
Congrats on 300k!
If you are pressure spraying to clean of the residual paint and dip solution, how do you clean voids, like behind the quarter panels?
One of the other channels I watch is a British high end custom shop called Retropower. When doing a strip they stopped using acid dip because the service they were using were not either willing or able to fully clean the voids of acid. They now blast instead. An interesting channel btw, they’re just finishing off a custom built Land Cruiser, a Camaro, a Mustang, a lancia Stratos kit car(!), some custom Escorts, a jag and others.
Looks to me like they get pretty thoroughly behind everything; then dip it in a neutralizer that gets everywhere the chemical gets.
How do you roll over the body shell to wash the bottom of the floor?

Why does the roof look like that? Like it's been welded back on before. Was it a convertible before?
The roof skin must have been damaged. You can see where they drilled out the spot welds, which is how you remove a roof skin, or quarter panel, or floor, etc.
Just curious, why rope and not a chain or cable? Static?
You can always see how gorgeous the factory color was right as it’s coming out of the acid.
No
300k onward and upward. I love seeing cool car bodies down to their bare metal.
How do stop rust after power washing???
The metal on that car is perfect. It didn't even need to be stripped but I'm guessing they want show quality finish
Отличный подход к работе.
Have you done any AMA type question sessions? I just had a silly thought on your opinions. What's the worst build quality generally beloved car. And inverted, what's the best build car that has the most slander about it?
Owner took that ol GOAT completely apart but left the Ash-Tray in the emeffer...
Love waiting your process - how often do you have to change out these tank and install new chemicals
Man, can't believe how good the metal is..!! Only rust I see is in the back floor board. Pex
While you are working with the chemicals, do you wear a mask or respirator? Also, can you show how you strip the fenders' doors and hood.
