No one shows much free motion on a regular quilt, so much different on a regular quilt. Im struggling free motion on a big quilt, keeping it consistant. Thank you for all the tutorials you provide. I love you teaching abilities!
Thank you for a revision video to remind us that stippling is a brilliant pattern to do as most of us have moved onto more complex FMQ & forget humble stippling can be used.
So glad to see this video! I forgot about your Free Motion series, Vanessa, and was about to purchase Leah Day's series that's for sale today at Craftsy. She is a really good teacher and I like her style, but I'm sticking with our fearless leader of the Crafty Gemini Quilt Club! ~Montana Lynn
This has helped me try machine quilting. I am going to do place mats to practice on and use them at picnics...my practice ones! I am learning do much through. the tutorials! Thank you Vanessa and God Bless your ministry to others in building confidence through sewing!
I like the way you made each of the patterns and I have to remember them when putting together the blocks I have which was my grandmother's and make the quilt very good and will last for many years for myself and others who may get it. Thanks as always for the instructions you have given us and I hope they help others as they have helped me.
Hello Vanessa! I want to Thank You for your Free Motion Quilting for beginners. I've been struggling to the point of feeling hopeless that I couldn't get this. I watched 6 of the videos and I'm practicing today. I was so happy with my results that I felt like crying. Mine is still aways to go to looking the way I'd like it, but it's better today than yesterday.
Donna Dresch so happy to hear that! You should be proud of yourself. Keep on practice this is one skill that absolutely requires you put in the time to practice and you will see improvement. Keep it up!
From what I've learned "stippling" is done in a tighter, compact pattern to hold a small area down. And "meandering" is done in a larger design to fill in an area where the density level isn't so tight.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TUTORIAL . I WAS WONDERING WHY YOU DONT USE YOUR FOOT PEDDLE FOR CUTTING YOUR THREAD OR THE THREAD CUTTER ON YOUR MACHINE. I HAVE BEEN INTERESTED IN GETTING A JUKI SINCE I SAW YOUR REVIEW. THANK YOU AGAIN
Can you start quilting anywhere on the quilt? Can you start and stop as many times as you want/need? If you totally mess up can you rip out your quilting stitches without it messing up your quilt?
Thanks for a great series. I was wondering if I understood you when you said to slow the machine down in order to make longer stitches. Do you slow it down and move the fabric faster in order to get the longer stitches? :)
+Candace Peterson If the speed is going pretty fast and you are getting really small stitches you can either 1) keep the speed as is and move the fabric faster to get bigger stitches.. or 2) slow the speed down and move the fabric at a calmer pace. It's really a balance you need to find depending on what is comfortable for you. Try it out a few different ways and you'll see what I mean. Practice, practice, practice~ Happy quilting!
Hi I like your tutorial .I have a question please ,if lets say I have a mistake while doing the stippling is it OK if I remove the mistake then start again by doing some revers and continue? Thanks
Enjoyed the video and it's giving me confidence to try but I was wondering where to get the black slippery thing on top of your machine and under the quilt material. Don't know what it is called so can't google it!
+Dana Martin Hi Dana, I recommend watching all the videos in this series here: ruclips.net/p/PLj9jdzKVN1ee5AVIqbjAByFzToS1YMdei I mention the particular product in this video: with details on where to get it: ruclips.net/video/hV3eH4ISPTo/видео.html
I noticed that you switched the quilting foot in this video. Is that a juki brand or generic? Did it come with the machine or was it purchased separately?
I was wondering the same thing ;) I have modified the 1/8" one by clipping and then filing the edges. I would like to know where to purchase one. Thank you
I am having trouble choosing cottons for certain quilts I have made with lots of vibrant colours including black in it and it is mainly made up of squares, no one seems to talk about what cottons to use and especially colours and backing.....and so I have only been making my quilts by stitching in the ditch, with the colour on the top the same as the squares. Help please...
I struggle with color, too. Everything I find is either too light, too dark, or has another color mixed in that clashes with the other fabrics that I've chosen. I think if you stick with 100% cottons you'll be fine. Don't mix cottons with other fabrics that have polyester (or other fibers) mixed in, because they'll shrink at different rates. When you're a beginner, you start with stitch in the ditch. It's the easiest form of quilting. You move on to free motion quilting (and stippling) once you've mastered other aspects of quilting.
Hey V...Where did you get your open toe quilting foot? I know you're using your Juki 2010 and mine came with two closed toe feet and I'd love an open toe. Tried to order one and can't seem to find the right one. I've been doing lots of practice blocks. Thanks!
+TheCraftyGemini No worries...I'll just own two. ha. I'd already purchased the other one thinking well maybe she just took out the clear part. No problem. :)
+Jennifer Ruiz I bought mine here: amzn.to/24PLP1V I would recommend this one. It is nice and big and open so a lot of visibility and it doesn't bounce as high as some others which can be really distracting. Hope that helps.

Thanks so much! Glad you enjoy them. 🙏🏽❤️

I'm a beginner, and your videos are perfect! Many, many thanks!
I'm discovering this video in Oct 2018. It's awesome and really helpful. Thanks for taking the time to create this.

Im so glad The quilting Marine suggested your page. oh okay you answered my question below.
Thank you so much for giving me a bit of confidence to try! xxx
Great demo. I too was a doodler as a child and found the stippling quilting the easiest to do (well, besides stitching in the ditch). lol
Thank you so much! Exactly what I was looking for.
thank you for posting!
great examples gives me hope :)
What is the black material under what you're quilting? Also, do you think this would be possible on a Singer Simple?
Your videos are wonderful👍👍👍
I like your tutorial. Thanks

Have you done Video #6 yet? I can't seem to find it. I am loving this series! Thank you so much.
I just ordered the open toe for my Juki 2010 😃
Did she show in one of these classes how to do the meandering wavy lines that are on the other side of this quilt sandwich sample?
Hi, I love your new tutorials about free motion. What is that black surface under your quiltsandwich?
I have never stippled. Other than the darning foot what do you do about the feed dogs? Leave them alone or cover?

I love your videos. Could I draw the design on the fabric with chalk then trace over it with the thread?
Absolutely! Have fun!
TheCraftyGemini Thank You for responding!

Should you work in small sections if doing full size quilt?
so if I have small 6 in crazy quilt blocks..... would the larger work well?
I noticed that you switched the quilting foot in this video. Is that a juki brand or generic? Did it come with the machine or was it purchased separately?

+Barbara M This is the one I bought off eBay: ebay.to/1J7MI97
Crazy question. Do you have to stand to do free motion quilting?
hi doll! can you make a baby sling tutorial? pleaaasseeee !
did the big open toe free motion foot come with the machine or did you purchase it extra?
When I'm doing stripling quilting my machine needle breaks why is it???
I noticed you actually turn your fabric. I thought you are not supposed to turn the fabric bc how would you turn a big quilt?

+Jake92574 This is a generic one I bought off eBay. Here is a link to it: ebay.to/1UqElvM
+TheCraftyGemini Thank you! I'm headed to check it out. I have a few from my other machines, but I'm afraid to try them. ha.
+TheCraftyGemini I checked it out and did you take that little clear part out with the hole in it? Or did yours have one?
+Jake92574 Weird. That's not the one I got.. it was this one. Sorry: ebay.to/1J7MI97
+TheCraftyGemini No worries...I'll just own two. ha. I'd already purchased the other one thinking well maybe she just took out the clear part. No problem. :)
Could you use all 3 techniques on the same quilt?
+Kathleen Swafford Absolutely!
Like to join the classes
Por favor en español . Quiero aprender pero , no entienfo el ifioma. Gracias
Do you have a quilting video for the three hearts little wall hanging on your craft wall?
+S.Arts.Wut Nope. I received that in an online swap years ago. Sorry.
+TheCraftyGemini That's OK, it's still cute.
I have the same machine, where did you get that free motion foot? would you recommend that one or do you prefer the plastic open ones?
+Jennifer Ruiz I bought mine here: amzn.to/24PLP1V I would recommend this one. It is nice and big and open so a lot of visibility and it doesn't bounce as high as some others which can be really distracting. Hope that helps.
Thank you!
