This is the first video in your series that I have watched. Was looking for FMQ and this popped up and this is the BEST video I’ve seen on how to free motion quilt. I have tried and tried but with your video I see and hear what has been missing in other videos. Keep it up! When I’m finished with this video I’m going to watch the others in your series. You are an excellent instructor.❤️
Thank you so much for you’re videos I’m wanting to do my grandsons quilt and I think I’ll use the walking foot with the waves because there are sea turtles and fish and I think it will be perfect. I’ve also never done this because I’m learning and haven’t been quilting long you are a great teacher.Thank you again, Darlene

Greetings from Canada . What a great video. FMQ terrifies me. I have been doing charity quilts using my walking foot and the serpentine stitch. They turn out wonderfully but Would love to learn to stipple. I will rewatch this again and set aside some time to practice and be patient with myself. Thanks for sharing this with us. Your video just popped up in my feed. What great tips and easy to see sewing. I will follow and watch the entire series, but when you FMQ a quilt, do you start in the corner as you do on the sample shown? Thanks
I’m so glad you found me! That’s a great question that I didn’t go over, and I’m glad you pointed that out! I typically start in the corner but I know other quilters that start in the middle. I’ve just always started in the corner so it’s kind of a habit at this point but no particular reason other than that. You’ll have to let me know what you think about the series!
@@southernsewingco I have been practicing FMQ but need to graduate to a quilt. I think starting in a corner will be easier. Also. Loved how you focused on completing the circle, keeping the spacing pleasing, etc. I look forward to watching your series/content.
Some do start in the middle with the mentality that the Quilt won’t ever be harder than it is right then. You could probably try a smaller maybe baby quilt, as those are lighter and easier to move around! You got this! Thank you for taking the time to watch these videos. It means so much
Hi, Ashley. Thank you for the videos. I am new to quilting and just found your channel. Question: What kind of presser foot pressure adjustments do you have to make with the free motion, walking, and regular sewing feet? Thanks!
Welcome!! I'm so glad you found me! To be honest, I rarely mess with the presser foot pressure. The only time I've messed with it was when using a walking foot when I noticed that my machine was moving around kind of squirrely (if that makes sense lol). In this case, I adjusted it a little more so it held my quilt together a little better and didn't let it bounce around so much! For FMQ, I've never seen this as an issue though. I hope this helps!
I may have missed this but are you using coordinating thread or the clear thread? Or any suggestions to keep the thread color from taking away from the quilt top?
@@chaunwillis4746 good question!! I usually use a coordinating thread unless I really want the quilting to stand out. Overall on the quilt top I will find a thread that matches the most colors the best. Take a few spools and lay out the thread over the quilt and see what you think! It’s like an audition lol.
