How to access the service menu when using SCART - Bang & Olufsen MX-series

- Hur du kommer åt service-menyn i scart-läge (v.tape) för att göra det lättare att justera bilden på spelkonsoler.

Instructions in English below.
- Connect your console in the second SCART-input (AV-2).
- Press TV on the remote (white noise screen).
- Press MENU - Setup - Sockets - Change AV-2 to Decoder. Press GO to confirm.
- Go back and go to TUNING. Change Decoder from OFF to ON and you should get a picture.
- Now the picture shows the composite signal even if you're using RGB but at least you can see what you're adjusting.
- Now you can access the SERVICE MENU by pressing MENU 1 1 GO.
- Adjust the settings you need, hit EXIT to view the original RGB-signal. Redo this process until you're satisfied with the picture.
- When you're done. Do the process backwards by starting to disable Decoder on the AV-2 input and so on.
- Change your consoles SCART-connector back to input AV-1 on the back of the MX and game on!

Hello thanks a lot for the tutorial i bought one of this TV for my retro consoles, i have the original remote control for this TV, the Beolink 1000 (my TV is the B&O MX4002) and i have the image moved to the left side, is not centered, what combination of buttons i most do to reset all the settings??
You can do all that in the service menu by pressing MENU, 1, 1, GO or MENU, 0, 0, GO (MX4200). You HAVE to be on a channel (white noise picture) NOT in AV-mode. Then you can fiddle around and adjust the picture. There's alot of other RUclips videos that will show you how to get to the service menu and what all the thing in that menu means.

Hey Victor, thanks for the advice! One question: how do I save the geomoetry settings? If I leave the service menu it reverts to the old settings, if the menu button is pressed again my changed settings are back.
That’s the thing. What you see in this video is the composite signal when adjusting the geometry. The purpose of this video is to adjust the geometry with the source on the SCART input. But when going out of the service menu the picture get’s shifted (if using RGB), that’s because of the different sync signals. So you have to compensate for that by adjusting more than needed, go out of the service menu and back and forth.
I! yesterday i tried this, i did manage to see my scart rgb into the service menu. i did the decoder thing but then i had to swap the scart on the back while on service menu. But now i can't reproduce anymore. Which is the procedure exactly?
Did you use SCART cable? If so, have you been able to get 4:3 ratio? Whatever I try with both my and SNES/Megadrive it's always 16:9 by default and it seems to be impossible to control/change it with BEO4 remote. I've played a lot with SCART pin 8 as well trying to feed it with 12V to force 4:3 but no success. And it's like that on both MX7000's I have, one is version 4.1 and the other 4.3 :(
dirtriderpl Yes, I used a RGB scart cable for this. Pin 8 is just for switching the TV to the AV-channel by feeding it 12V. You can leave it if your are able to switch to AV with the remote. You should be able to adjust your problem if you press “LIST” on the remote until it says “FORMAT” then press “GO” (button in the middle of the “joystick”) then choose an option between 1-3, I think your looking for option 1. Let me know if it works!
@@victorclausson4039 Thank you Victor - yep, that is one of the things I have tried as well. The problem is that on my TV after pressing GO (while FORMAT is selected), nothing happens. SO I suspect it's either restriction of a firmware (tried on both 4.1 and 4.3) or the type of socket selected (VTape 1). Of course a workaround would be to simply adjust the picture height with geometry in the service menu - which I did yesterday, but that's not the way it's suppose to be done...

Tjena Victor! En fundering gällande MX4000 snarare än servicemenyn. Har du någon erfarenhet gällande skillnaden i bildkvalitet på SW 1.X jämfört med 3.X och 4.X? Har en MX4000 med SW 1.1 och funderade på om jag skulle försöka uppgradera mig, men det känns inte som ett jättekul projekt att leta upp en ny tjock-tv och mest troligt behöva frakta den över halva Sverige.
Nope, ingen är direkt perfekt och SW spelar knappt någon roll tills man kommer till MX4200 som har en mycket smidigare service meny och möjligtvis lite bättre bild men mycket där beror på att den producerades sist av alla och komponenterna är väll ”nyare”. Mycket handlar mer om slitna kondingar och andra komponenter i TV’n mer än vilken SW den har. Dåliga komponenter kan ge sne bild och annat t.ex. magnetremsorna längs med yoken kan vara svaga etc.
How do you save the settings? Every time I come out the menu they reset.

Maybe you battery in your TV (that stores the settings) is dead. Try to swap it out.
Hej. Jag har en mx5000 och en Beolink 1000 fjärr utan Menu-knapp. Vet du hur man kommer åt setup/settings? Sen är det ingen text på min tv som indikerar källa/volym/kanal/etc. Jag kan koppla in en konsol, typ Mega Drive, och sen byta till den genom att trycka på V.Tape. Men problemet jag har är att ljusstyrkan är väldigt låg/svag. Tankar?
Problemet är att du inte har Beo4 fjärren som kommer med TV’n. Beolink 1000 fjärren är för äldre Bang apparater och har säkert inte alla koder som originalfjärren beo4 skickar och därför når du inte den menyn.
@@victorclausson4039 Tack för svar. Men nu har jag märkt ett annat fel: när jag trycker på PICTURE så står det i manualen att det ska komma fram Brillince/contrast/color. Och när man höjer volymen så ska man kunna se det på skärmen. Och man ska kunna se vad kanaler heter osv. Poängen: det finns ingen, vad ska vi kalla det? - on-screen text? Kan den döljas eller är funktionen trasig tror du?
Jag lyckades öka ljusstyrkan genom att trycka på picture och sen pil upp, och detta utan att kunna "se vad jag gjorde".
Känner du igen detta problem?

Hello, I have done all your steps, but the screen stays black when entering the service menu, I have an MX7000, I don't know what can happen.
Make sure the console output composite sync and not Csync than this wont work

@@victorclausson4039 Hello again, I am writing to you in relation to the issue of the B&O configuration of your video from 7 years ago.
I have done the steps correctly, and yes, I can see the image of a sega master systen on the tv through av-2, even everything is correct, the problem comes later when I try to connect a megadrive again, for example by rgb, it does not take me out the img looks black.
I have done the process in reverse as you detail in your video and nothing, I am not able to see the error.
Is there a way to reset the remote control of the B&0 Beo4 and leave it factory.
Before doing this whole process, I could see it without any problem, I had the sockets as follows.
pl:off, av1:v.tp-1,av2:v.aux s-vhs:off
and the scart of the console whatever, sms, md, sn, etc... in the back tv slot that says av2 and I saw it perfect, not now, I'm a bit desperate because I can't reverse the problem. Could you help me, I'm looking for information and I can't find anything.

Svårt att säga men borde vara. Kolla om Decoder finns i menyn vid köp. Då borde det funka. Samt att konsolerna måste ha composite-sync och inte CSYNC.
@@victorclausson4039 Tjo igen, har köpt den nu och den är magnifik, och dekoder har den 😁 Tyvärr går det dock bara att komma åt service menyn genom att öppna den och kortsluta 2 pins, inte genom kontrollen. Vet du om det är lugnt att göra utan att dö? Aldrig öppnat en CRT men det är väl bara att inte röra bildröret?
Tänkte sätta en arkadknapp på baksidan så det bara är att klicka på den för att komma åt menyn 😌
@@GreenSoap Det är bara att kortsluta två stift som heter typ ”Service” när du öppnar bakstycket med ett isolerat verktyg. Inget farligt se upp för bildröret och annat bara. Lycka till

@@GreenSoap Att du håller i ett verktyg (mejsel, tång) som är isolerad så du inte får ström i dig om du petar fel.

Nolasco Då kanske det är så att du har fel fjärr och behöver en beo4 fjärr (den med display).

I couldn’t get my PS3 or PS2 to show anything except a black screen by using your settings. I did get the consoles to show up when i put it on DVD. I don’t understand why.
I think the console needs to output a composite signal in the cable your using.
@@victorclausson4039 It’s giving me a signal now on V-Tape with decoder on. My issue now is that I have an MX-4002, SW 4.7, with the little lcd screen remote, and I can get into the service menu. BUT… I can’t see what I’m changing while I’m in service menu because I can only go into service mode while on the TV input. I cam’t get into service mode while on V Tape or DVD. So I don’t know what I’m doing while I’m changing settings. I tried everything. The only way is to somehow get my console to show up in TV mode and then go into the service menu. But I don’t know how.
@@victorclausson4039 How did you get service menu on your Sega Mega Drive channel? When I press 1, 1, go, I don't get anything. I did everything the same as you and I can't get into the service menu. I'm using a PS3 connected via scart rgb. I can get the picture to show up on V-Tape by using exactly the same settings you showed. But I can't get the service mode to show up while the TV is in V-Tape.
I figured it out! I had my scart in the wrong input. I changed it to the other AV input and now I can get into the service menu. Thanks!!! Now I just need to calibrate my screen with 240p test suite.
Can you help me calibrate the screen in service menu?
