Hey Guys. I’m the owner of the AV5 RGB Rob reviewed on his channel. He sold it to me not long after reviewing it. Ive owned it for over 5 years now and I’ve gotta tell you that it’s freeekin Awesome! It’s an early one, so it’s has all of its functions working and has the controller ports on the back. Since owning it, I’ve bought 11 games, the genuine 3 button control pad and light gun. Every game I’ve tried has worked great so far and yes, the sound system is awesome. Btw, it also has an FM radio and a satellite tuner built in. I love this thing! Keep up the great work.
A few years ago here in Denmark, you could get many of the older B&O CRTs for peanuts, and often for free. I went through quite a few, and still have three, one in the living room and two in the basement. Their design and audio quality is so lovely, though unfortunately the picture quality cannot hold a candle to a good PVM. I game on SONY's, but keep the B&O around for the design alone. I've always loved the brand, even as a kid where I could not even begin to dream about affording one. Now I have their most premium products, though I must admit that in terms value for money, they are quite a poor prospect. Especially today where they are just regular LG OLED TVs on top of fancy expensive stands. Though, I never quite get tired of seeing the speakers fold away as the TV rises when I hit the power button.
" cannot hold a candle to a good PVM" - I always disliked exaggerations. According to your comment, the B&O image is trash compared to Sony. I'm not sure what B&O models you had, but I currently have 3 x MX8000, 2 x Beocentre 1, 2 x MX4200 and I have a couple of Sony PVMs and I don't agree with your comment. If you search online, MX8000 is considered one of the best CRTs you can get ( great image, very sharp, very bright, great contrast, good geometry).
Commenting as i 'm listening ! About the time keeping chip, i happened to have done the exact same dremmel thing and piggy backing a cr2032 onto it for an IBM Ps2 one month ago ahah! Actually very easy to do.
Sorry had to leave for work. It wasn't a question about Philips pushing the cdi. I know it was part of a deal Philips made with B&O. I am from the Netherlands myself 😊 I read an old Dutch newsarticle mentioning it.
Fun fact: if you have two Beo4 remotes, you could use them both simultaneously for a more convenient way to play CD-i games, somewhat similar to playing Raiders of the Lost Ark on Atari2600 or using wiimote with nunchack.
With B&O it’s all about the sound, more than anything else. I always wonder if it would be possible to swap out the crt with an lcd and keep the same form factor. B&O are now partnered with LG for the tvs and use the C9, however it is also designed to have different screens, so they could change at anytime. B&O are high end with speakers around 40k
For the longest time you could these B&O CRTs for next to no money here in Denmark. They do seem to be a little rarer now, though. If I'd had the space I might have picked up some.
I love my B&O MX4000. I would love to hear what you guys think about the divisive contrast screens that they put in their sets. At first I disliked them and took it off but then later I tried it again got used to it and ended up really loving the black levels with it on. Kind of brings the black levels down to almost Oled levels.
Lol nah, not worth the hassle. It could turn out that the one I get, the tube has worn out anyway, so could even be worse. From what I have seen online of comparisons mine is the same as anyone elses.@@XYZ-pz3tf
Any idea how you can disable the ambient brightness sensor and achieve full brightness without shining a light on the sensor on the MX7000? 😅 Rgb games are so dark because of this dang sensor 😢 The tech is called VisionClear by B&O
can you tweak the 100Hz models so they become 50/60 again? If not it is not very bad. You don't want this for consoles anyway. But it makes a fine display for computers like a C64 and basic programming, or as information display.
Can someone with B&O experience tell me why all my menus and volume bars and channel/source text and basicly any and all text/info on screen does not show? I can adjust, for example, the brilliance/brigthness by pressing Picture and then using the up and down arrows, but I cant see what I'm doing. The brigthness will change but no indication of how much. The tv works great apart from this issue. It's a MX5000.
@@DuudeWhatDoesMineSay Mine says Philips, I doubt LG made CRT tubes for B&O. But halfway the Avant 32 series they teamed up and became LG-Philips displays, but that does not make them LG tubes.
Recently picked up a MX7000, and never seen my N64 and Dreamcast look better. Truly amazing set. I just wish the remote wasn't designed by a sadistic Danish nutcase.
The best thing i see here about cdi it put a larger from the back to the hole of the botton of the screen. But a serious question, how i can add an cdi build in on my beovision avant us? Ahahjavfnsmdkdbal
What an unexpected but delightful crossover, glad to see the Retro Tech Universe (RTU) burgeoning.
Greatest crossover in RUclips retro CRT history.

Omg, an av5 without an FMV card? Never knew there was one. My has it and plays thunder in paradise❤ the video quality is very close to dvd!

Loved this episode, fantastic story and crt ❤
It's a nice looking yoke! 🔥❤️🔥
I was so happy for Audi when he posted a photo of him and this beast on the DF discord lol!

1:08:45 I have a Beovision Avant and it’s 50/60hz so not all widescreens are 100hz.
Hear hear. Mine has VHS built in. The latter DVD versions are more likely 100hz.
Cheers from a happy Avant (for free) owner in Sweden ☺

Get the MX4200 or the MX8000. Much brighter screens .

Can we listen talk about more "achievable" sets, like de beovision 1/beocenter 1 or beovision 3 ?
So weird your friend had to dremmel the back of the tv! On my beocenter av5 there is a plastic plug hiding those contols.

Beautiful crt. I am assuming its pal and 50hz?
These automatically switch between 50hz and 60hz depending on what you feed to it

These TVs are thrown away every day in Little Denmark. I see many of them for sale for around 30 to 50 USD.
What brand is the tube inside ?
Philips
LG/Philips actually.

yep, but the tube inside that beast is a Dutch brand ;)
