    The cupboard set up is really the culmination of a lot of minor changes. I am mildly tempted to up my screen size and and when I work out how to fit a bigger telly in the cupboard, but apart from that, it's all sweet thank you.

    So what this technically does is it makes the TV ignore the signal's sync pulses that tell it to render an interlaced (576i/480i) picture with the fields in alternating positions on the screen, and instead render both fields on top of each other, just like it (and any CRT) would do with a proper 288p/240p signal in the first place. So nothing is actually "de-interlaced", the TV just scans in forced non-interlaced mode. But with a source that actually is proper 576i/480i this will look weird because the physical position of one of the fields on the screen is wrong, creating wobble, as seen on the dashboard.

    I did something similar to my Loewe Planus 16:9. I discovered how to turn off progressive mode for both PAL and NTSC but sadly it did not result in lovely scanlines. It also produced some nasty artifacing such as ghosting. I used Sonic through my Super 32X and Makaimura via Capcom Gen 2 on the PS1 to test it. The picture of the TV is beautiful but is ruined for games because it lacks scanlines, leaving everything looking as nasty and blocky as my plasmas :'(

    this mode overlay a every odd line black mask on the screen. mening when displaying a 480i @60hz displays 30 frames of picture and 30 frames of pure black screen. thats why it still flickers. tru 240p is double strike, this is single strike. just filmed it with 120fps camera to confirm every odd frame is pure black, even frame is 240p etc. on real 240p content every frame is 240p. Awesome nonetheless ! and thanks for the vid! :)

    I have a Beovision 1 CRT but don't seem to be able to get this to work. I go into picture, press list to get shift up on the screen and then press 7 but nothing. The annoying thing is while in picture mode I can see scanlines so it clearly must activate it while in picture mode but it does not stick. Any help would be appreciated.

    • @futurematt5
      @futurematt5  6 лет назад

      Hi, I don't have a Beo1 but on the MX4000/7000 the scanlines instantly appear when you hit 7 in picture menu. Once they are activated they stay on when you exit the menu. The only issue you can sometimes get on the MX4000 is that it registers the "list" button press through the IR and this trips it out of the required button sequence. Always hold the remote away from the screen and put your finger across the IR light when you're pressing LIST. Once SHIFT appears on the remote, aim the remote back at the TV and hit 7. Sorry if this isn't any help, ideally look for a you tuber who also has a Beo1 as see what they're doing. There are quite a few around.

    OK Shift is mapped to the List button. Here goes .. I press "Menu" and then navigate to "Picture" and press "Go". Then I press "List" button so "Shift" displays on the remote's LCD and the TV screen comes out of the Picture sub-menu. I press "Go" to activate Shift function and then press "7". Nothing happens!! I have tried this a dozen times. What am I doing wrong? I have the MX7000 with SW 4.5 and beo4 remote. I have the PS2 connected to AV1 port and playing Tekken Tag Tournament.

    • @futurematt5
      @futurematt5  10 лет назад +1

      The MX6000 is a great TV, but also consider the MX4000, which has a slightly sharper picture. The important factor is that whatever model you choose, it has firmware 3.1 or higher (see sticker on back of TV, says "SW x.x" on top right). If not, you cannot access the service menus with a compatible remote, which is a pain as service menus are very important for setting geometry. For 30 euros, an MX6000 with the right firmware sounds OK. Without a beo4 remote however, accessing the service menus may still be difficult (but I think it will work).

    Nice video, i have a MX4000 too, mine got a phillips tube inside. Unfurnately this tv handles very bad 480i ntsc sources. Its like the colors start to bleed. Its a good tv set for watching pal dvd's, watch tv, play 240p games, and optimised pal games for PS2 etc. But I will not recomend the 240p mode to any gamer who wants to play anything than on allready 240p games. The 240p mode in 480i games starts an extreme flicker that will kill your eyes. Better get a cheaper arcade monitor

Seriously though.... this is great for those who don't want to mess around with other external devices, to emulate that full-on retro 240p look. I must admit though... playing 480i more and more on a 21" CRT, it's starting to not bother as much as it used to..... but I guess this is where the anal side takes over, especially when you want the best image quality.

    I have a NOS Bang and Olufsen MX8000 (9100) 28" with software 1.6 and it doesn´'t have deinterlace mode. This overpriced and extremely overratted TV is very good for those 240p games, but struggle so much with 480i, the Flickering ist just so distracting and disturbing. Here in germany can you find those MX8000 for a high price, and yes... they have a amazing quality on 240p with Scart RGB, but that is all. It has Only has two Scart inputs and oh boy... the settings are difficult as hell, and man... i have a Master in Electronics, i know what i´m doing.
    Go for a Trinitron my friend, Sonys are very user friendly, they have all the inputs you need, Component either. Yes sir, Component signal under progresive scan with the right settings looks amazing too... RGB ist not the only signal with quality out there.
    i´m thinking seriuosly to sell my MX8000 and go for a Retrotink 5X Pro for my OLED.
