    I never operated a D11, but I have some experience with the D9, which probably differs mostly in size and power, but has similar controls. When operating, there's the throttle, which is usually used at full capacity while working (there's also an inverted gas pedal, but it isn't implemented in the controls you showed). There are two handles for the threads, which allows to break each thread separately for turning/pivoting, or slow down/brake when both of them are pulled simultaneously. My guess is that you should set up the velocity (and maybe control it with one hand), and use the "levers" on the left to turn, slow down or stop by pulling the left/right, or both at the same time. There's usually one handle for the blade, which can move forward and backwards to move the blade down or up (respectively), or left/right to tilt the blade sideways. This could've been done in the app as a joystick, but you don't usually tilt while moving the blade up or down, so it's not a big deal. The ripper's controls are similar with the up/down and backwards/forwards movement, but since the set doesn't have a back/forward movement for the ripper, a simple up/down switch seems to be enough. I suggest you try driving it using the track handles for both turning and slowing down, and let us know how it feels.

    The app looks really interesting, and I hope you feel better soon! The turning on carpets and climbing performance can be easily improved on the 42100 by replacing the useless linear clutches with axle extender pieces of the same length. The motors stall well before the gears would begin cracking.

    It is already modification but the Liebherr can climb and turn in the same way if
    1) clutches are reinforced,
    2) top rollers are lifted to strain the tracks.

Seeing the moc of the Liebherr I just wonder why. For me it's the better dozer in terms of lego. Can lift itself, every function works simultaneously.
      Still don't know if I get the cat if there will be a great discount 🤣 but for now I will stick with the liebherr.

    Great video - didn't know the CAT had the path following function - that is quite interesting I guess but maybe there is not a whole lot you can do with it in practice.

  • @McKrushi
    @McKrushi 3 года назад +4

    I think the biggest problem people have with this set is: It's a bulldozer.
    Trucks with crane attachments, cranes by them selves or excavators will always have more functions. And bigger offroad cars/trucks and dozers will always be criticized for the lack of "functions" I guess. That's a reasonable argument of course, since it's obvioulsy true.
    But on the other hand: That's nothing that can be changed - except if you add gimmicks, what TLG did. And is an crane/excavator arm with multiple joints equal to multiple funktions? I don't know :D
    I know the model from Eric, I realy like it, but I still do not see a real benefit of one-motor-per-function in the case of a dozer. You will never use the ripper, you will almost never do 'fast' maneuver...
    There is also a realy nice dozer from Dawid Szmandra. He added a 'realistic' suspension and sacrificed the adjustable blade-angle for that, but kept the ripper with two functions - which you will never use... =|
    I don't realy see how to do a "pro/con" list about those models. If you like lego-mechanics+RC: go for the Lego-version, it's somehow the most playful (not playable!)/gimmicky, too. If you like full RC: Choose Erics C-Model. If you like display-sets with some RC: Go for Dawids version. And if you want the biggest with full-RC wait for effermans MOC xD
    But since some functions are unuseable anyway: Size is actually a factor, too :D
    conclusio:
    Get all of them :X
    And I almost forgot: Get well soon :)

    • @RacingBrick
      @RacingBrick  3 года назад +2

      Thanks! I think dozers can have different functions, at least real life dozers can do much more with their blades besides lift and tilt. A complex mechanism replicating that would be fascinating, and I'm almost sure it'd be possible to replicate it in LEGO form at this scale.
      My main problem with this set - it is unnecessarily huge, and although the gearbox gives you a good building experience, using it is a pain. You really have to wait 4-5 seconds before any function besides drive is activated, it gets annoying very quickly. I'll show the difference between this and the Liebherr MOC in the next video, from a playability perspective the gap is enormous.
      And I guess from a functionality standpoint realism is also a factor that can be appreciated. An off-road truck can have limited functions (drive, steering, diff lock maybe), but if the implementation is realistic and the result is a capable off-roader then the play experience still can be great.

    • @McKrushi
      @McKrushi 3 года назад

      @@RacingBrick Not sure about the possibility ^^.
      But yes, realism is of course a noteable point, too. Not sure which model fails there the most ;D But I simple cannot get in the mood to criticize any of them, as I said; I like them all :D
      About the delay:
      Since the motor(s?) seem to rotate backwards a bit before the actual switch happens, I see two possibilities:
      1. Bug in the app, like multitouch effect.
      2. Overprotecting like ...I don't know what.
      If you switch under load that can cause trouble (endless testing with 42114 tought me that for sure) so rotating the drive motor back a bit helps a lot. But it seems like they rotate the selection-motor a bit back, which I do not understand, and every function has a worm gear or actuators, therefore the load should not be a problem.
      If the delay is realy a big problem: The speed in your first video with PU seems perfectly fine to me, so I would choose to ignore that point :D

    • @RacingBrick
      @RacingBrick  3 года назад +1

      Based on the noises there's a sort of "shaking" movement before switching to the position, might be there to avoid being stuck as you said. I think the main issue here is the lack of function selector, adding a simple switch could ensure that I don't have to wait long seconds trying to trigger the function before anything happens. I rotate the selector in position, once it's there there could be e.g. a green light with the icon of the function, and I would know it is ready to be used.

    Hi. Thanks for the video. I would be interested to hear from someone who did the test your build at the recommended step. When I do this, there seems to be a few errors in the app but until I'm sure I didn't want to advance the build. Most importantly, some of the 6. tests seem to move parts in different sequences than the test. Over the 6. tests all the parts move but in a different order. Only tests 4-5 (which control the tracks) move in the sequence suggested by the test. I have confirmed all the motors are plugged in where the instructions say. Is this just a mistake in their app or is something wrong? And if so, what? Second, the app shows the same part to check for the test in both steps 1 and 6 which I think is a mistake. Thanks.

    I'm sure MK did his best designing this set, but one knows from the start the set is not focused on playability when the box says 18+. Ripper should have been able to dig in the dirt with some strong worm gear mechanism and not stop above ground and tipper should have been able to lift + tilt while simultaneously driving. In fact this bulldozer should have gotten the same kind of one motor per function like the Liebherr did to make it authentic and functional like Technic sets should be. So comparing it to 8275 it's a downgrade.
