But the old ones gets just as much fun. Technic set was about making moving parts that function to machines in the real life. I collect a lot of old Lego. Because they simply is better for playing with. I own alot of new Lego too of cause 😉 also the cat D11
@@GreyFox250 Lego choose to do the licensing. It's not needed. The customer wouldn't care if it was a CAT D11 or a generic dozer. @Unbrickme To be fair, the D11 needs a point scrubbed on functionality for the badly built ripper. It' doesn't touch the ground.
It´s nice that you include the classic sets in your vids too, knowing the history is always fun! I hope there will be more comparisons like this in the future, best of luck with the channel, this is quality content! :>
Yeah that would be right up my alley. Because I'm Indian, I can't afford the sets above $40. So a video like this would not only be interesting and fun, it would also be useful!
Agree on your assessment of the 856 set. I got that when it came out in 1979 (I was 10 at the time) and just loved it. It's really an ingenious design - to be able to get full bucket action with that small a set and with the Lego Technic pieces that were available then is just amazing. For what it is and for the size of it I would say that it's one of the really great Technic sets of all time. Please note though that this set is modelled after not a bulldozer but a tracked loader and a relatively small one at that. Few tracked loaders have rippers since this implement is used to soften up the ground to make it easier to doze. Therefore, it's quite uncommon for these to be found on a tracked loader and even more uncommon for small machines (dozers and loaders alike). But - great comparison and good that you pointed out that the yellow tracks (and blade) of the 42131 is actually not strange (as many Lego enthusiasts have put forward in numerous forums) but rather how the real bulldozer is delivered from Caterpillar. Of course, the Lego tracks won't wear like the real ones but at least I prefer this look and that Lego stays true to the original.
there are no finish grading dozers (d3/d5) with rippers, many d6's with 6-way grading blades don't have them either. its mostly d8's and up that had bull blades that got rippers.
Yes, indeed. My favourite model is the oldest. Sick mechanisms and wit. All the crucial design elements are there and the scale is perfect for a functional model. They never talk abou the scale. It is much easier to appreciate a smaller model than a bigger one.
While watching the video, I remembered that my father had the 1979 bulldozer. I just finished building it and WOAHE ! I almost never built studed technic set, but it's packed with so much functionality and the instructions are more difficult than today's one (even though it's 9+). I'm now looking to get the 2024 baby one, and maybe the CAT for the next spree.
Awesome video, my favourite is D11T. Also, Lego showed us 42127 Batmobile, you saw that set? In my opinion it have amazing prize, for $100 we will get 1360 parts and new light bricks
I’ve just pick up the Cat D11T to put in my collection, I’m really looking forward to the build, I all So have the 1979 dozer and the first pneumatic technic forklift as well in the collection, fun times ahead, Cheers
Damn seeing all these expensive monsters used in real environments... and i thought i was silly as a kid always trying to build and use ships in water. (regular lego... so you know... they were actually floating)
I love all the lego technic construction vehicle sets. Construction vehicles bring out the best in technic in my opinion. The functions and mechanisms built into them is what technic is all about.
I mostly agree but i would remove some playability points on tha CAT bulldozer because it can only be controlled via phone and unlike powerfunctions becomes useless once the app isn't supported anymore.
In that case the mini bulldozer is the easiest to buy, it’s not too expensive. Everything else is extremely expensive, even the 2014 bulldozer costs $200+ sealed now.
honestly i like the mini one because i am not a very skilled or rich person and i like just building armoured tanks for my minifigs to play with sometimes, and i'm always short on those tracks and that set couldve got me some at a low price and i wouldve got some fun technic elements to build my rickety rc tanks too
But the hi track keeps your final drive out of the mud and helps from the tracks freezing up in colder conditions and the mud around the final drive keeps the heat on the final drive motor but cool thanks
The D11 is expensive because Lego has a get a license from Caterpillar to use their logo and designs. And getting a license to use a company’s logo and designs is not cheap!
Unbrickme, I need your help. I can't decide whether to get the 42131 Cat D11 or not. They are on back order right now. I will get one if you say so, but No Pressure...................no pressure.
The average bulldozer is not a high track d7 with a triple blade ripper. The average dozer is a standard track d4 or d5 equivalent with no ripper or has a winch
the reason why 853 has no ripper is because there wouldn't be any space. putting the controls on the cab would make it look ugly and considering technic was only 2 years old at that time. it would be almost impossible to put the controls on the cab. also, technic figures were only introduced in 1986 so a minifigure wouldn't look right as most technic sets are either too big or too small for a minifigure. in fact, that is the main reason why technic figures were introduced in the first place after the maxifigures were discontinued in 1975. also rip technic figures (1986-2001)
Honestly, authenticity should not be the major selling point of lego...this is better accomplished with other media like models. Personally, the 70s bulldozer is an example of a perfect lego set.
I think the lego technic Cat D11 bulldozer is a bit better than the lego technic Mercedes Benz Zetros trial truck because the lego bulldozer has more climbing and pushing power. It can pass any obstacles better than the lego technic Mercedes Benz Zetros. 9:50
I just bought the d11 I don't think it's over priced you're paying for cat first of all there mad expensive to begin with but everything about this thing is amazing we'll worth the money
hi i wondered how simple (im fairly new to technics) it would be to buy a couple of actuators cogs etc and transfer the power from the ladder and pass it on to the tilt mechanism for the back hoe
I don't like that you give every set a certain score depending on their size, there is no real way to compare it unless you completely trash on the smaller, less functional sets. Which you do not do.
Loves the video but found the scoring strange. 3.5/5 was “average” and you didn’t put your own top choice as the winner based on your own subjective scores.
@@Unbrickme the Lamborghini Sian barely fits and I don't think I want to buy the Titanic or millennium Falcon since I think that's just too many pieces for me

Not all bulldozers have a ripper.
It's amazing how much Lego has developed over the last 40 years. The latest dozer is a monster.

The Cat D11 Bulldozer would've won easily if the set wasn't so pricey...
$450?! ARE YOU INSANE, LEGO?!

The classic set certainly has its charm. And though I never missed a seat, the uploader has a point, it is strangely missing.
It's not THAT uncommon to have bulldozer without rippers. Actually, in real life, I think I've seen more without than with...

The CatD11 Bulldozer is clearly the king of them all. especially when it comes to functionality.
beautiful scenery for the presentation of these amazing sets

The 2014 bulldozer is the perfect bulldozer. It's the classic feel of LEGO Technic, and the perfect balance between functions and aesthetics.

The 2014 dozer isn’t licensed, however only cat is allowed to build theirs with overhang track and the sprocket on the top

How did I come across this awesome channel!?
I want to get the 8275 now. A good mix of System and Technic pieces as well as a great PF parts pack.
I love all the lego technic construction vehicle sets. Construction vehicles bring out the best in technic in my opinion. The functions and mechanisms built into them is what technic is all about.
Honestly I'm surprised Lego only made 5 bulldozers. That seems like it would be technics forté
same, i was also surprised
I saw the ant exploring the small technic bulldozer
For example leveling dozers don't always have rippers so it is kinda authentic
Also I tend to use the 8275 without the ripper because I use it mostly for leveling work.
Now weld 1 inch thick armor plating onto the big ones
I love the 1979 model. But I'm 50 years old. I prefer the old style square beams.
Nice video. You shoud do the same comparison for alle Lego Technic excavators. 🙂
The tracks are painted???? I thought they would be molded in yellow
