Couldn’t agree more about the difficulty with using the app - it really needs to be streamlined and future-proofed. I’ve specifically stuck with PF and used SBrick when needed as a result - at least it’s much more user friendly and open.
While I like the new technic sets that have been released over the years, I absolutely HATE touchscreen controls, it's so horrible compared to a mechanical remote control I hope Lego engineers will backtrack on this Control+ nonsense ( would anyone like to drive their car with a touchscreen ? NO )
The need of owning and using the smart device to play with lego is a dealbreaker for me. I'm not against the apps but they will render these sets unusable someday because of lack of updates or different operating system. There should always be a dedicated remote with every rc lego set.
You can use an alternative freeware app, and there are even options for PCs to connect. The control protocol is externally accessible so this just isn't a problem.
@@rjc0234 well that's one way to view it. I don't think Lego pieces are strong or sharp enough to really ruin anything though. In my eyes this is just bad design. I fondly remember my 8275 and its ability to lift itself off the ground.
@@air-headedaviator1805 I haven't gotten my hands on any control+ sets but from working with Power functions, while the motors spin fast, you always have to gear them down, so you're probably right about control+ being more powerful
I remember my parents giving me the 8275 for my birthday when I was 10. It's what got me into making my own Lego rc cars that I control using buwizz now.
14 year difference and still worth comparing? That's a complument to the 8275 (which I have). I also have to say that most advantages of both are due to weight, and some things the old fella even did better in my opinion, like the visible V6, and I wonder how the range will improve in the dark.
Powered up isn't inherently bad. It even has advantages on power functions, but it can't beat power functions' simplicity and ease of use, or its affordability.
Great video, it shows just how much larger this set is. I do wonder what it would be like with the gearing ratios switched, as the amount of torque from the pf motors was a surprise given how little they are geared down compared to the c÷ motors. Quick calculation puts the PF XL at 156.6 N.cm with a 5.4:1 and the C÷ at a measly 29.4 N.cm with a 1.67:1 which gives the older pf set a torque advantage if both sets have the same gearing. Whether that would overcome the 2 kg difference I have no idea
There is atleast one good solution for that, 88010 remote is technically compatible with nearly all of powered up family. And of course, power functions wins in terms of power and simplicity but powered up motors (except wedo 2.0 one) have rotation sensor.
@@searme checked, however this is getting sticky. Last time I missed a video I got this changed to "all" and yet today... tada, my notifications were set back to "personal". Strange.

When I saw the 'pug of war' title, I was curious to see what it would be. Let's say, it didn't disappoint :P

PU is open, too :) It will never reach the 'out of the box' playability of PF, but because of the features, I actually prefer PU.

I love that "Pug of war" I am laughing so much
I really like the new 7 studs wide tracks. I hope that lego will release them in black colour.
Or grey

yes thats all they need to do is make a remote like the old PF one (not the train remote)
I manage to use my PS dual shock 4 r/c with my every MOC. It's amazing to program r/c's buttons to control lego motors.

I just bought 8275 in sealed bags (but opened box) for 1500 PLN (about US $360).
Adjustable track tension, the chieftain would be proud.
damn the new one is HUGE. nice vid as always :)
Great review. I have 8275 as well and looking forward to getting 42131. Cool features about both sets. But gotta love them both 🙂
Pug of war is obviously the most important discipline!
And the smelliest one, too!
Pug of War for the win :)
You left out two very important categories: "range of motion" and "speed of operation" (aka "that pathetic ripper" and "the ultra slow blade")
And the ultra slow blade... xD
@@Mani-io5re hmm, right. Let's call it "speed of operation"
People keep ripping on (eh) the ripper.... but I think its an extremely smart design decision to not make something that will gouge up carpets.

Its almost consistent with how Lego remote control sets two decades old are build for speed while new sets are built for POWER
Power = speed x torque
@@Klaevin I mean like power as in powerful but you know
@@air-headedaviator1805 I haven't gotten my hands on any control+ sets but from working with Power functions, while the motors spin fast, you always have to gear them down, so you're probably right about control+ being more powerful
Actually, the Control+ motors are weaker than Power Functions motors and no, you don't always have to gear the Power Functions motors down.
Finally some good content for once, made with the same love like in the good old days. More videos like this please.
I have been waiting for this video with intensity.
Nice video as usual! I like the pug of war lol. you have used in this video same bateries as i use :D
This was awesome, nice shoes . I thought the pug was going to do a tug of war 😁
If we put 2kg more to the 2007 set . Will it do better in tug war againts the 2021 set ?
The 2007 set is clean for its time and the 2021 is Huge
It would surely help.
I think it wouldn't help as the 42131 has much more torque
and the 2021 is Huge...in the price? :-)
weight and rubber bands/attachment in the tracks.
I remember my parents giving me the 8275 for my birthday when I was 10. It's what got me into making my own Lego rc cars that I control using buwizz now.
Very insightful and entertaining comparison. The clunky Control+ environment is what really kills 42131 for me.
i did not realize that the new dozer is like twice as big holy crap.
Nice tests , you are a killer lol ..I love your posts ☺️
the app is the main issue... I wonder how many people lose interest with the cumbersome process....
cheers for pointing it out!!
I love my 8275 precisely because of that ease of use. The Liebherr and the Volvo never get used because it just takes too long to get going.
Really good race!
After over a decade, 8275 still looks awesome and performs superb. I do realize control+ is difficult to use.
Awesome music 😎🤘🏼
I have a lot of nostalgia for the old dozer but looking at this comparison it's really aged!
You can speed the blade function up by swapping the positions of the two different size 90 degree gears at the top of the "hydraulic cylinder"
Interesting how that 8275 "Bulldozer" goes almost as fast as what Lego calls a "Tracked Racer" (aka 42065)
Dozer vs the hand 🙌🏼🤪
42131 is looking cool, but since it's price I'll stick with my 8275. thanks for the video!
You can get the proportional movement in 8275 by using a train controller as the remote.
You can, but it's very laggy.
I really dig the music in this video, what is it?

PF is better than C+ because C+ dont have physical remote control and we always need a phone
