How to mount the BMW Roof rack - BMW How-To

- Learn in this video how a BMW roof rack allows you to mount additional roof luggage systems on BMW models without roof rails. Use the included special torque wrench to turn all necessary screws on the roof rack system. Make sure to mount the front and the rear carrier in the correct order and facing in the right direction. Make sure to tighten the screws until you hear a clicking noise.

@@justinabrams78Their is definitely wind noise. It’s noticeable at higher speeds. It doesn’t bother me too much.

Professional-made video. Great job. I have a F10 (2013 5-series) and I can't find my manual. The roof rack base system that I purchased in 2014 doesn't have the sticker labels to show which rack is the front/rear and which side is right/left. Looking at other public videos, it's assumed that the front rack has the 3 little wings at the bottom portion of the rack. I'm also assuming that the right side of the bottom portion of the plastic black mount loops up from front to back. Is that the correct assumption?

(New G80 M3 owner) As far as I can tell with my Thule equipment, yes. The Thule and OEM setup for a G20 3-series also works on the G80 M3, as the mounting point geometry seems to be the same across the line. I guess this is a rarely-used feature of M3s because there is still very little information to be found online.
@@hadrianmyers I bought the Thule brand instead. I got help from one of their distributors and it is the same geometry as the base 3 series.

Are these good for transporting kayaks?
You might want to use some foam between kayak and bars to prevent distortion of kayak, but these will hold a kayak at 130kph no problem

How to close the roof gutter?
Since the paint in the thread has to be stripped, is it recommended to take the rack off when not used?
One of my options is a G30 (pre-LCI) 530e, and because of the saloon body and reduced boot space, I am looking into fitting a roof box for family trips.
(So the question boils down to: are the flaps in the roof gutter sealed so they won't let water in?)
You're only removing the paint in the thread.. there is still a hole for the screw as before, so if it didn't leak before, it won't leak after.
@@ncarstens I wasn't concerned about leaks, if you expose bare metal to moisture, you allow rust to happen.

I have BMW railing carriers for X1 can i attach a Thule roof box with a grab fixing mechanism. Thule say yes if i have aerobars?
I love BMW, but this roof rack is absolutely hideous. Please give us black bars and a tower with less clearance - it looks so much better that way!
