As a straight woman, obviously I've never experienced what it's like to be a gay man. And as a neurodivergent person who doesn't enjoy crowds and noise very much, I don't really get why people love to party. Speaking personally, I find it all a bit meaningless and claustrophobic. And as a spiritual person, I didn't particularly like the 80s with its hedonistic, 'greed is good' ethos. So, I may well be outing myself as just a boring, party-pooping prude, but many of these scenes turn my stomach. I feel like Freddie, far from 'finding himself' or 'expressing his true self' during his period of partying and sexual experimentation, was actually a little bit lost. The relationships don't seem very real to me, or could it be that they feel uncomfortable because they were too one-sided. Did Winnie ever love Freddie the way Freddie loved him, or was he just happy to date and live the high life with a famous pop star? Is it just me, or do others feel something like this? I believe Freddie expressed sentiments suggesting that lostness in some of his later songs ('The Great Pretender' springs to mind), that were more reflective, although he never AFAIK expressed any regret for anything he did or didn't do in his life. Sometimes we need to try things out in order to know what does and doesn't work in this world, in these human bodies. Thanks as always for posting these compilations, that while they may not always be comfortable, do provoke reflection.
I too get the feeling that Freddie seemed a bit lost during this time. The overwhelming fame and attention has to do something to a person. I also believe he had some deep wounds from being sent far away to school for those 8 critical years. He seemed to work through this though and had found genuine contentment. His relationship with Mary was also precious and most comforting ( imo of course). Freddie was so unique, extraordinary really. He is deeply loved and forever missed by so many.

You're onto something, the fact he chose to pair the song Living on my own with a video of his birthday party speaks volumes, just saying!
