Quite probably my favorite jazz singer of all times.
Love and miss Abbey......at least we have many wonderful recordings to remind us of her unique talent......and lets not forget Marc too.

This is one of the best clips of Abbey EVER. I have been blessed to see her in concert more than 20 times and this is the closest to what the live experience is like. And this is the best recording of this epic song: she includes all the verses (some are omitted on various other recordings and other singers infamously drop verses). This is also the kind of quartet she liked to work with the most and she and Marc Cary had a 12 year working relationship; this is at the early years of that. I believe that is Michael Bowie on bass (not sure about drums). Great great clip. Great thanks to Zycopolis

I actually did see her at a concert in Paris in the early 1990s. Didn't know who she was at the time - I won two tickets answering jazz questions on a local radio call-in show.
She came out on the stage with the bearing, the dignity, the pride of a QUEEN! Royalty! But natural royalty, like natural elegance; nothing brassy, nothing fake. My god, I was so impressed! I became a great fan & continued to see her, never for free again, though. And bought all her records.

She always had one French song in every album and/or every concert, at least in Paris, because she was so loved here in France. I love her recording of "C'est si bon," for example.
I discovered Ms. Lincoln s music in the mid 90’s what can I say she was a true gem!

Her rendition of the classic French song (by singer/songwriter Leo Ferré) 'Avec le temps' really brought me to tears. Hardly any French artists have ever covered that song, so totally the idiosyncratic property of the eccentric Ferré has it always been & so hard, harsh, hopeless & sorrowful the message it puts through... But Abbey was of the caliber to tackle that & make it very moving.
