ABOUT THIS VIDEO:
Acid jazz, an offshoot of the quintessentially British mod subculture, emerged at the crossroads of the 80s and 90s. The genre was launched by Eddie Piller, whose eponymous label signed an exciting array of bands including the Brand New Heavies, Corduroy and Jamiroquai. Meanwhile, his close friend Gilles Peterson launched the equally seductive label Talking Loud, representing bands such as Galliano, Urban Species and Incognito. Influenced greatly by jazz and funk, the latter group symbolizes the lasting impact of this innovative musical period on today's musical productions.
Performing at the Jazz à Vienne festival, Incognito quickly sets the show in motion. The London group are clearly backed by a wealth of experience, delivering an outstanding and meticulously-arranged set from the stage of the ancient Roman theater. This is particularly evidenced in the introduction, a track built on a French refrain, as well as in the following song, carried by Nathalie Duncan’s impressive timbre, and in the numerous compositions relayed by an impeccable brass section. An alternative to 70s Afro-American fusion, Incognito seamlessly integrates pop melodies and a healthy dose of soul into its repertoire. The final track is a case in point, an incredible sequence whose vocals compete in audacity and sophistication.

Early nineties me and a mate front row at an Incognito gig. Happily singing along when Bluey suddenly said ‘ you two seem to know all the words, get up here and help sing the next song’. I remember a black backing singer that Bluey delighted in telling everyone her name was Pamela Anderson

They are soooo good. Pickin up some of that sensational Steely Dan great studio jazz musicians sound and the voices got it all goin on. This is why I love JAZZ.
Let me talk about the at 12:00 (The white, actually Colibri): The trumpet player anxiously waiting for his turn to solo, extreme concentration.
The amazing sax/drums duo; the swing of the drums alternating from samba to Caribbean rhythm at the entrance of the trombonist ah the inflated cheeks à la Dizzie Gillespie haha..., the percussionist feeling at home.
This 2023 moment reminds me of 2015, in the extraordinary appearance at the Rio das Ostras Jazz & Blues Festival in Brazil: A gala night, plus an intimate afternoon, outstanding moment.

I have been to the Jazz a Vienne Festival was there in 2022! It is a beautiful outdoor festival held in an ancient Roman arena!! The town is beautiful and the festival was wonderful!

Just for the record it was a DJ called Chris Bangs who first coined the phrase "acid jazz" while DJing a warehouse party with a full dance floor with Gilles Peterson and it was meant as a joke. Not a new music form! The label came later.

just a small mistake, it is the video of the live concert of "jazz a Vienne" (ancient Roman theatre) and not that of granville in Normandy (there is no ancient theatre the bottom but rather apple trees and the beach)...for the music and rhythm part change nothing , it’s perfect !🥰😇

Hey dude, if your a drummer Incognito has and has great drummers. The current is Lorenzo, awesome. In the past they’ve used Peter Buggins and a couple of others that are absolutely amazing. Find the videos.

Should have stuck the guy with the sweatshirt and shorts in the back. He's too much of a distraction for me. Music is good...but not a festival repertoire or presentation. Just sayin
@CaropBec I know it is. Shorts and sweats still suck for that type of gig. If you're there to entertain, that attire doesn't cut it.
That 'guy' is Bluey the creator of the band since the late 70s so he can do exactly what he likes, without him you wouldnt be hearing any of these wonderful songs, count ourselves lucky that he is still playing and touring constantly as he isnt a well man.
