- The Crusaders were one of the pioneers of Jazz-Funk music in the seventies and have made a number of visits to Montreux over the years. This DVD focuses on their performance from 2003 when the band were touring in support of their album "Rural Renewal". Founder members Joe Sample and Wilton Felder were joined in the line-up by long standing friend Ray Parker Jr on guitar and by the inimitable Randy Crawford on vocals. They delivered a set that spanned their career from early days up to their latest album capped with a stunning nine minute plus performance of their classic "Street Life" and finished off with a fun rendition of Ray Parker Jr's "Ghostbusters".

On keys, the Maestro Mr Joe Sample (RIP) and killing the vocals, the Legendary Randy Crawford, and on rhythm guitar, Mr Ghost-buster himself, Mr Ray Parker Jr... Pure Ear-Sex oozing off this stage!!! Back when music, lyrics and talent were your only way to get a ticket to ride this journey called "MUSIC"!!! Thank you one and all... : )
Saw them in 2004. It was the last concert my wife attended before she started chemotherapy. I had always wanted to see them, it was a wish come true. Not all wishes come true and not all prayers are answered the way you them to be. She passed away and so every time I hear this song, I think of that night and that life. Thank you Crusaders for giving us so much great music and great memories! Randy, Joe, Ray and Wilton where great. RIP Candy, Joe and Wilton.

Im so sorry for your loss :’(
❤️
All that means that she's still with you and will forever be.qqq
The one and only beautiful Randy Crawford❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Street Life!!
Randy Crawford, fan bloody tastic, saw her first concert in London 40 odd years ago, came on wearing like wedding dress, so shy, and then the voice came "WOW"!!!! Crusaders , pure!!!
I saw her with the Crusaders in London forty years ago as well.
Randy Crawford Lady of Jazz and Soul
No one can sing that song but her...PERIOD!
I would like to try ... one day ...
:-)
You are absolutely correct - Randy Crawford is so unique in her delivery!!!
Her TONE IS MOST DEFINITELY UNIQUE! We ain't never had ANYONE TO sang like that, before OR SINCE!
Unique to Randy. Full stop.
Certain singers just OWN certain songs. This one is hers. Period. Forget it.
I was at that concert and met Randy Crawford on the street in front of the Palace Hotel after it. My fiancee Anne told her I'm a huge fan of hers. She ran into her hotel room and brought me back her CD. She signed it "To Hannu with all my love. Randy Crawford". How kind can you get? 🎉❤
This song is one of the most superb songs of The Crusader. Love very much. Thanks to The Crusader.
Crusaders....
a tear runs down my face when she comes out of the intro and starts to sing the verse, what a great voice, that at first withheld energy, that emotion, what a performance, can it be so good, oh man yes. what a super groove.
The legend himself "Ready" Freddie Washington on bass
Yeah, he co-wrote "Forget Me Not", I love him !!!
I was really living this life listen to the lyrics it inspire u to find your self
I have loved them dearly from the first album to street life. I also have some of Joe samples works. To hear them take turns playing is truly remarkable. Randy is over the top with her distinctive voice and is emotional for me. Thanks all.
I agree with you!
Some of the greatest musicians ever, Ray Parker on guitar, Freddie Washington on bass, Wilton Felder on sax, Wilton Felder played bass on so many early Jackson Five hits. Joe Sample on keys!
You came into The Rhinoceros club in Detroit bout 1am. I was trying to rap up the club. You Sat at the piano. Took the microphone. Amazing. I still get goose bumps. Your a gift. Loved it.
Her timing is incredible! And so natural! Black Lives Forever!
at 7.00 'you dress...' that is very sophisticated timing! So beautiful!
i really can not imagine disliking this. so amazing. loving the Rhodes as well.
Bless all musicians forever
you just cannot beat a live performance, good bad or indifferent.
I first saw The Crusaders in ‘82 in Montreux. They blew my mind, especially Wilton Felder (tenor). Gratitude!!!

I was working there, seated on the left side of the stage...cool gig

Randy Crawford superbe !!! The Crusaders too... Beautifull !!!
Hard to believe Wayne, Joe & Wilton are gone and I'm talking right behind each other. All that's left is Stix. One hell of an act to follow

En mí época de Director-Locutor de Radio Juvenil era uno de los temas que no podia faltar en la programación de la emisora. ...Strief Life.

No one can do it like Randy wow who out there litsing in Oct 2020 🥰
My copy of this album has deep grooves, phenomenal.
We all had a Street Life.....the Best
There is a sector of this millennial generation who believe that, with an ounce of talent and a huge amount of ego, they can make it in the music business. They even believe that they have a God given right to do so. Take a long hard look at those guys in the band, kids, because they have zero ego, huge amounts of talent and have spent years working hard developing their talent.
Look and learn, kids, because nobody is going to hand you success on a plate just because you feel you deserve it.
Unfortunately, our generation's views fall on deaf ears. Nonetheless, you nailed it perfectly, just go through the talent in this band, unparalleled. Thanks.
Qto está o condominio ?
Very true mon Amigo
Not sure it is just "a sector" or segment. With a comment like yours, I'm surprised you haven't absorbed some verbal blows by now.....from one of the know-it-all musician or celebrity wannabe's. I do all the time, when I try to illustrate some striking musical comparisons between the generations.....lol. New generation, political indoctrination, cancel culture, some other factors..... proliferation of urban culture and urban "values" (that's being generous) or thug music has degraded some ethno-music segments which was represented so well here with Randi, Joe and the Crusaders. This whole musical art form is on life support also because of the huge buyout and takeover of the FM smooth jazz radio broadcasters 15 years ago or so and conversion into other broadcasting formats.....have to listen to Sirius XM Watercolors. Not sure how these artists can make a commercial go of it these days. No where to play, no stations on which to hear their music, concerts out the window, festivals few and far between, and all the jazz greats like Joe Sample and others are all deceased. Just terribly depressing gang....terribly depressing.....have to go back and listen to the classic material and artists on Y-T I guess.
Agree 100%. This 'entitled' culture starts at school age. No one is allowed to fail an exam because that just might hurt their feelings. So everyone gets a certificate which makes the exam meaningless to potential employers. But no-one explains this to the kids. And when they leave the protection of the school they do so with a belief that their certificate will get them a job because they are 'entitled' to it. And that's when they come up against the real world.
Love them no one better queen Randy C
Was just passing by. Then Randy Crawford. Enough said.
