Robbie, love your inspiring, you-can-do-it videos! I've made several bird baths, following your thorough instructions, and have them all over my yard. I was making the turkey baster one, when I had a eureka moment!
I used a clear plastic Christmas ball (10" in circumference/3" in diameter) I had, instead of the baster ball, to make the fountain. All you have to do is burn a hole in the top and insert your tubing. I decided to just put the tubing half way thru and turned on the pump. The water filled the ball and bubbled out of the top, just the way yours did. The birds love it!
Thanks to you and Gary for sharing your wealth of wisdom on growing food and caring for our beautiful birds. Cheers!

What a beautiful idea! I do know the filters that come with the pumps do not last and the water recycling also goes bad bacteria etc. So always check and replace water to keep it clean the filter doesn't work nor just having the water moving won't work it needs replaced every 3 days with clean water and also check the plastics you will feel a mild film at the bottom to give you idea how mad it can be! Than this beautful story could end in tragic because the bacteria will kill them so fine here but great idea on the surface

I made this and have a quick tip..
Use the painters tape around the bottle to make a line to cut.
Also this is not very sturdy unless you put the bottom of the baster in to the bottle. I think it can be done better but maybe not cheaper. It would also be great to show those without a soldering iron how to make cut circles and poke holes. 0:01

I am making 4 of these right now for my 84 year old dad. He lives in San Antonio and these high Summer 2023 temps of over 110°F has made his hummingbirds scarce … he doesn’t have them anymore out his back window like he used to. He asked me to check the feeder and it is 1/2 full. So I am afraid this heat may have destroyed them but I hope not.
So I saw this video and thought this is what his little hummingbird friends need! They need a place to refresh themselves in an oasis of hydration.
I hope a group of 4 of these fountains will bring them back.
    He misses them🥺❤️

To make hummers come back more often and help hydrate them in hot weather- make the solution you feed a little thinner than usual by adding extra water to the solution . It stretches your solution and helps hydrate the birds too. They actually prefer it this way too.

Robbie, I want desperately to make some of your Hummingbird fountains, even though I'm not 'handy.' So beautiful! Trouble is that in the area where I live - Sacramento - the northern part of California's Central Valley, I almost can't find a Hummingbird. Have had feeders & shallow birdbaths & hummer swings out for some years (prior to CoVID-19 lockdown). But the last 2-3 years, I've seen fewer & fewer Hummers. I have lots of Flowering plants & Shrubs that these little gems love, but no birds. Even though I'm in my yard & garden sometimes for several hours (I read, eat & often pray in my front garden or porch!), I've spotted not more than 3 (three!!!) Hummers in 2023. I'm so saddened by whatever is going on. (BTW, seen only a handful of Butterflies this year either). Not good.
Bless you, Robbie (& Gary, too). Your videos give Joy, Hope & Peace in a sad time of History & Life!
I'm just beginning to garden in totes, too. I save everything compostable that earthworms might love to eat! Wonderful ideas! God bless you & give you His Peace. Thanks so much!❤😂

      @joymay8092 Год назад

Joy from Sacramento here 3wks later. Researched FLOWERS that attract Hummers. SO far I've only planted 4 or 5 on the lultiple lists I'd found: Bee Balm, Salvias (sages). Delphinium, Zinnias, & Penstemon.
But I've seen Hummers 2x in the last few days, & signs that my Hummer Feeders are being visited (sticky residue on the porch below). AND, since 104-108 the last few days; I hung a birdbath up next to the feeder (out of reach of the cats!). It's a shallow bath & the splash has to be a relief in the heat!
If you get their attention, they will come! I can't be happier, Robbie. I'm not "handy" but I'm going to attempt that turkey battery fountain. God bless you (& Gary) for your inspiration & example. Love you. ❤❤

Also, how much water are you putting in the container. Does the water level go past where the top and bottom of the bottle go together? Cool idea! A few thoughts and a question or two. I skipped the bottle. I have a couple of fountains already, sitting in two lovely birdbaths. I found a straw that works perfectly for the tube (sorry, whoever had that nice jug in the cupboard but this was perfect!), and grabbed the only turkey baster I had. The tube is just 6", fits perfectly, and the hole I made at the top works great. I have no need for the bottle for all I can tell. No birds have tried it yet (birds in and out of my birdbath often, normally). Does it take a bit for them to get used to the presence of the bulb? Second concern is the flow is very inconsistent, depending on the sun intensity. If I slow it down (the flow), I may lose more than I want. How high up is it best for the water to come out? I hope my questions make sense and help others, too. Thanks!

I am soo discouraged with the horrible weather we're having down in on the Texas coast...thought having several birdbaths (I made 3) would be a great help for the birds. Not a single bird, hummer or otherwise, has investigated or used any of them. I've made the turkey baster, a floating bubbler, and another bubbler using stacked terra cotta pots with no success. Is it the extreme heat and humidity? I will keep them going but will be thrilled to see any feathered friend show up. Any thoughts?

Robbie I want you to know I went to Walmart the day before yesterday and can you believe it.... they were out of turkey basters!! I thought "there must be a lot of you tube viewers out there that watch Robbiie". Yesterday I went to a different Walmart and was able to find a turkey baster there. Oh btw did you happen to notice that they also have a turkey baster with a red ball on it? It is however more expensive, I think over $7.00. I also wanted to do a comparison, so ran to a Dollar Tree that's in the same shopping center and can you believe it.... they were out of turkey basters LOL. I guess I'll try a different Dollar Tree here in the near future. Can't wait to try this out. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks for the great idea!

MY yard has shade trees and I find it difficult to keep my solar pumps in the sun. Can you or anyone recomend a electric pump that would works for the humminbird fountain?

I don’t see how it could get dirty that quick, and I’ve never had one stop working. But check this out just in case. How to Fix Solar Powered Fountain Water Pump Not Working for Hummingbirds Bird Bath Fish Pond Garden
