I made a hummingbird fountain, but, instead of hummingbirds… I have bees! I don’t mind so much. Bees here in the desert need water for sure. A couple weeks ago I bought 2 turkey basters, installed them on the big hummingbird playground I made with a cookie sheet. But the bees have taken it over! My hummingbirds love my 5 foot tall copper fountain that is shaped like a yucca plant. Water comes out the top and trickles down the “blossoms” and drips off the spikey leaves into a big copper basin. I have built numerous solar and electrical water features in my yard.. but the copper fountain is the one the birds love! Today I built the “hanging” fountain. It is hanging on a shepherds hook with a regular bird feeder and a hummingbird feeder. Now I want to make a kcup bubbler!
I wish we could share pics! I'm doing electroculture in my vegetable garden so I have a lot of copper and brass wire to be creative with bird baths. My problem isn't the bees coming around, I welcome them, it's the wasps that are loving my fountains. I don't want them and I'm highly allergic! I haven't found any positive qualities they have for my garden.
@@synergy2222 I have some strange winged bug that I can’t identify and I keep hoping it isn’t something that stings because it’s bringing its friends! 😱
@@synergy2222 Re wasps, “The Valuable Role Of Wasps In The Environment: 3 Ways Wasps Are Beneficial Here are 3 ways in which wasps are beneficial both to people and the ecosystem as a whole: Pollination Natural pest control Symbiotic relationship with other creatures.” I hope that is helpful. Wasps get a bad rap, but they are good. However, I do understand if you are allergic, you must protect yourself. “Wear light-colored, smooth-finished clothing. Avoid perfumed soaps, shampoos, and deodorants. Don't wear cologne or perfume.” I hope that helps.
Dear Ms. Robbie 🙂 I imagine you going through life, doing the most mundane of things, and then something hits your eye, and BAM! New fountain design. It's such a joyful way to live! Thank you for all the smiles you bring to our faces.
You made my day. I started a wildlife garden/gardens a few years ago and learning as I go. I found out if you leave your yard untouched all year every year in about a 20’ radius. Our endangered lightening bugs will start using your untouched area to make their home. They need untouched land a year, because it takes that long for their life cycle to go around and most people don’t understand this and lightening bugs are disappearing rapidly. The cicadas use the area as well. They too have an all year life cycle and can’t be disturbed or they’ll die out. So I started thinking “ I need more water for the birds and bees. My bird bath doesn’t cut it. It needs to be filled and cleaned daily. I love all your ideas! I can’t wait to do this. My bird will be so happy, especially the cardinals. They’re obsessed with flowing water.
I hear you. I don’t even mow my back yard, maybe once a year. It naturally dies back in the winter, I’ve found. I throw out wildflower seeds (well, I try, but the birds eat 99.9% of them🙄. I put out especially water, seeds, I do mow the front, but I’m happy to see that more people are allowing them to get a bit shaggy during spring. They put up the no mow March signs or whatever. I have a lot of trees in my yard for an urban area, and I let them be, as much as I can, anyway, and let the dropped leaves just stay there until well into spring so the bugs can have a safe place to winter over and be food for the birds , a bit of a dichotomy lol. I do have to clean them up eventually, there is a lot in a small area, and it’s a fire hazard. But every little thing helps, eh? I do my clean up once a year, when the leaves are very dry. And not bare ground, I try to leave just a little. I figure that’s the safest time. The chicks/bugs/whoever are done. Blessings to the people out there who care about this kind of thing, we take their survival, and should help out in any way we can.
Thanks so, sooooo much for the fabulous videos! Made two this morning…one for myself, one for my mom. Not sure I can post pics but will try. Paid about $10 for each solar pump, then two decorative buckets from Dollar Tree, and a four-pack of plates. Picked up a 20-pack of jumbo straws for about $2. Would opt for another kind in the future. Mine were “eco-friendly” and although they did work, they’re rather brittle. I grabbed empty, cleaned out goat cheese containers to rest atop the plates. So at most, $15 per fountain. Again, THANK YOU!!! 😍
Thank you, Robbie, for sharing this hack!! I have 2 fountains, but the water shoots too high, so I'm going to put KCups on them!! You are ingenious!! You put a smile on my face when I watch your videos!! ❤❤❤
I had a plant basin on an outdoor bird cage with water and a rock in the middle. The crows brought bread and it rotted in the water (to high to see what was going on) This is the perfect project for a fresh water (I have an R.O. setup so a regular supply of very good water) for the hummingbirds I feed during winter as they seem not to be interested with so many flowers here in west Los Angeles 5 miles from the ocean, but a bird bath has to bring them in. No wiring, no water line, works for me. Already ordered the pump. Thanks, I'll adapt for my own version but will be the same basic system. I have a small wired pump in a small fish tank that can be adjusted but saw no text about that for more or less flow.
Some of the aquarium pumps have an adjustment on it already so you’d have to check yours. I love that you’re going to take the idea and make it work best for you. 😊 Thank you
I love this Idea. Thank you! I also like your idea of the lid covering the water basin - I imagine it keeps the water cleaner to prevent the filter from clogging from leaves and stuff.
I love your channel and ideas. I just wish my side of my condo got enough sun to support my solar fountain! I have my hummer feeder out and enjoy watching these fascinating birds. Thank you

Thank you for your wonderful videos showing diff ways and supplies to make bubblers for birds. I just made my first one! A vase from Goodwill, bowl and kids cup for top (upside down for a perch)
Robbie, thank you for this video. The birds are so adorable in the fountain/bubbler. I know I have to make one because when I am out watering my garden the humming birds come to fly into the mist and drink the water off of the leaves of my plants. That tells me they are thirsty. I also did not know the importance of changing out the humming bird feeders and cleaning them out very often. Thank you!!!!! I hope I didn't injure any birds. I am making new nectar (it is cooling) as I write this. God Bless
I have a couple of those solar powered thingies too. They didn’t work, just dumped outside the bath. But I kept them them. Knew there must be a way to use them. Thank you! Always want to try to keep my poor sweeties have access to water/bath.

Wow! I love this idea Robbie. Kcups so smart! How do you come up with all these brilliant ideas? I think eating all the organic veg must help 🤗👍🏻♥️ The video of the oriel, it’s like she is using it as a very nice bidet, cracked me up. Birds are sooooo smart!
I found a 3.5 watt solar pump works better in my yard. I still get one with a long cord but because I'm using trash cans to make mine so the water doesn't dry out so fast, this wattage gives my birdbath the perfect amount of water to get to the top of my tubing without spraying all over the place. I'm in Arkansas and dealing with 100+ degree days right now so I have to add water every couple of days now instead of daily.
Robbie! What about making 2 bird baths, maybe in 2 different structures with one solar fountain? With your creativity you could use the small 1/4" irrigation tubing, and your handy dandy soldering iron to attach it to two different structures somehow - I'm sure of it. I've got plenty of it now since your videos on the tubing in the garden. If I have time, I'll try my creativity on that. But you'll be ahead of the game, I know it!
Whats the GPH gallons per hour rating for the size of pumps you have found to work best. I don't want to get to large of one thats pushing to much water thru the bath portion and then splattering all over off the water retention catch tray. Thank you
I made a hummingbird fountain from my birdbath, a solar fountain, little flower pot and an old base of a hummingbird feeder so they have a place to stand turned out great thanks for all your inspiration. Do you have a Facebook page I would love to post a picture.
Great videos! I’m in Portland, OR, and we only get one hummingbird at a time. They do come year round though, and really like the heated feeder. I wish we would get 4-8 at a time, I just think we don’t have as many as you do there. Any ideas? They are so territorial!
I made a hummingbird fountain, but, instead of hummingbirds… I have bees! I don’t mind so much. Bees here in the desert need water for sure. I have talked about it a lot, and shown it inside other videos, I will try to get a separate video together soon. Thanks so much ❤
Thank you 😊
Just make a small slit in each one and pop them in a freezer bag. I do that with regular tomatoes too. When I have 20 lbs I make sauce or juice.
I love this! I want to make this for my hummers❣️
Have fun ❤ thanks
I love this one too!
I love this Robbie! Going to make one right away!!😃
Love it. ❤
Working on my water fountains today 😁
Whats the GPH gallons per hour rating for the size of pumps you have found to work best. I don't want to get to large of one thats pushing to much water thru the bath portion and then splattering all over off the water retention catch tray. Thank you
Offhand, I am not sure about that, but the small solar pumps with the square panels in the links below seem to work just fine
Love it!! Thank you Robbie!!!
Thank you ❤🙏😍
You're welcome 😊
Beautiful
I made a hummingbird fountain from my birdbath, a solar fountain, little flower pot and an old base of a hummingbird feeder so they have a place to stand turned out great thanks for all your inspiration. Do you have a Facebook page I would love to post a picture.
Very cool stuff!
Great videos! I’m in Portland, OR, and we only get one hummingbird at a time. They do come year round though, and really like the heated feeder. I wish we would get 4-8 at a time, I just think we don’t have as many as you do there. Any ideas? They are so territorial!
